Lovely Large Coffee Shop
Advantages: Free Parking, Hot and Cold affordable food, No expense spared in furnishings, great atmosphere
Disadvantages: Can get busy
...Brambles is a beautiful setting for a coffee shop on the banks of the River Wear with affordable hot and cold food. You could have lunch/dinner or snacks here and the food has been tremendous everytime we have visited. The staff are very polite and I think it holds about 100 inside (in a lovely cosy atmosphere) and also around 50-60 outside in a large outdoor seating area. In summer it becomes so busy that they put up a 50 seater marquee also which provides extra shade and shelter whilst eating your scones or sandwiches. I can highly recommend the paninis though, and my partner loves the fact that everything is locally produced and homecooked. If you are ever in the North East Brambles Coffee Shop is a great way to relax after looking round the adjoining Poplar Tree Garden Centre....

Anyone for coffee
Advantages: Convenient, interesting to watch the world go by
Disadvantages: None
...If you're looking for a coffee, then Bill's Coffee Shop is an odd place to look. It's a bar, for heaven's sake, so why they call it a "coffee shop" beats me. Perhaps they do sell coffee, but I've never seen anyone drinking the stuff there.
The grandly named Clinton Plaza is a relatively new, smallish, maze of open bars, shops, and a little bit of sleaze too. It's right on Sukhumvit Road, between Sois 13 and 15. If you're staying in the Manhattan Hotel (recommended), then it's within very easy crawling distance home.
Although they periodically have people on the street handing out maps of Clinton Plaza - nice graphics but a little bit rude - it's easy to find Bill's, as it's right at the front on the corner. This is one factor that makes it such a good place. You can watch the world go by here. Sit there for an hour or so, and you...

WAKE UP and smell the coffee
Advantages: good quality merchandise, reasonable prices, wonderful coffee
Disadvantages: disorganised service, sell outs
....Nevertheless I clicked on it and soon learned that TCHIBO is a long establised German company who specialise and trade in coffee - having a number of coffee shops throughout the continent. A European Starbucks! (I'd never heard of them!). For a coffee specialist what surprised me most was the limited range of coffee for sale. Basically there were two options Mild or full strength...available as grounds for use in filter machines or instant. Ground coffee was £2.29 for full strength (250g)the mild being a couple of pence cheaper! Instant cost £1.80 (100g)full strength, again mild was a couple of pence cheaper! I opted for one of each in the full strength. So I got out my faithful mastercard and submitted my order. The order was proccessed quickly and smoothly and I received an email almost instantly from them to tell me that all was well

a coffee named desire
Advantages: a lovely smooth strong coffee, ideal as an after dinner drink
Disadvantages: may be too strong for some people
...a heat-proof glass. Add the sugar and stir until dissolved. Carefully pour the double cream over the back of a teaspoon so that it floats on the surface of the coffee. (Do not pour the cream too quickly or put the spoon into the coffee or the cream will sink.)
You can easily experiment with other ingredients to try something different.
Carte Noire is available in the larger supermarkets such a Asda, Safeway and Kwiksave but often not in the smaller ones (late shop etc) or corner shops.
It generally costs £2.45 for a 100g jar or £4.69 for a 200g jar...

Advantages: Tastes brilliant, you'll never need to leave the house for great coffee!

Top of the shops.............
Advantages: see above
Disadvantages: see above
...Advantages: Loads of stuff available, good prices
Disadvantages: can get busy at christmas time so much so people abandon their shopping
I am a huge Asda fan, it's where I do most of my shopping and I know where everything is which makes it easier when dragging 3 kiddies along with you!
In my local Asda we have a photo centre, cafe, George, electricals, homewear, toys, bakery, pizzaria, rottisary (chicken place lol), fresh meats counter and all the usual foody aisles plus we have a petrol station, cash machines and bus stop. It's the largest shopping store we have although we do have a Tesco, Lidl, Aldi, Co-Op, Farm Foods and Iceland.
I have never had a bad experience with Asda and the stock is usually replenished quite quickly! They have such a huge range that I know I can do my weekly shop and more there.
Everything...

Conscience Coffee
Advantages: Fairtrade, ethical business, reasonable product
Disadvantages: Bit bland, not full bodied as rivals or real ground coffee
...I really love the taste and smell of fresh ground coffee, especially from Colombia or Costa Rica. There is a richness and distinctive aroma as you open the pack which just sets the taste buds tingling???..Alas, all too often it is simply not practical or best use of time to indulge in real brewed coffee so instant must suffice. Unfortunately in this sector of the beverage market price is often indicative of quality, and premium brand instant coffees almost always taste better than the standard or economy offerings. Having experienced enjoyable cups of Percol Fresh Ground Colombian Coffee I had high expectations from the instant variety: even more so since it was on offer at just over £2 for a 100g jar making it very competitive against other premium brands. The packaging with it?s familiar green green hue and prominent Fairtrade...

Coffee with a Conscience?
Advantages: Good taste, cheap, sustainable development.
Disadvantages: Air miles?
...The particular Kenco instant coffee I am writing about is their 'Sustainable Development' variety. I could have asked Ciao to allow me to review this as a new product as this particular 'flavour' has not been reviewed, but as plenty of Kenco reviews exist I thought it would be okay (and less greedy) to simply review it in this category.
I don't drink coffee much as I see it as a treat and I like my coffee strong enough for the spoon to stand up in, with (I use Elmlea light) cream. I also like it so hot it burns my lips, which is probably not too good for me, hence, the rare treat.
Sustainability:
I first tried this brand and type out about 6 months ago and was attracted to the fact that it boasts a 'Rainforest alliance' certificate and aids local farmers earn a fair deal. In fact the coffee comes from a cooperative in El Salvador...

Coffee Conundrum
Advantages: Quick and covenient with a reasonably convincing fresh brewed taste
Disadvantages: Brown sludge on the bottom, enormous amoeba like bag
...result from the massive proportions of the bag itself, these bags may well be a good choice.
As of this writing, you can buy these bags online from Fresh Coffee: http://www.fresh-coffee.co.uk/shop/coffee-bags-from-lyons.html (gosh, there's a website for everything these days) at £2.95 for 125g - 18 bags. The same quantity costs £1.55 at Sainsbury's (now there's a no brainer for you - I know where I'd buy these suckers).
I don't think I'll be rushing out to buy these. They are ? ok. They're just nothing special. If you like fresh ground coffee, you will probably like the coffee made with these bags, though not quite so much as you like 'real' coffee. If you are generally satisfied with instant coffee, you will probably want to stick with instant. Your call....

Coffee with bite
Advantages: Tasty, strong alcohol content, not too expensive
Disadvantages: The weird bottle, leaves a slightly bitter aftertaste
...described as coffee chocolate liqueur and is 19.4% alcohol 18.5% overall. I had no idea there was anything to do with chocolate in the drink whatsoever, any flavour is simply drowned out by the strong coffee taste.
Anyway, the whole taste experience resembles a cold cup of expensive sweet cream coffee mixed with a drab of best whiskey. If you are into that sort of thing (and I am) then it is absolutely lovely stuff, but if you simply don’t like coffee in general then you definitely won’t like it.
~~~~~~PRICE AND AVAILABILITY~~~~~~
Well our bottle of Sheridan’s cost us £10.99 from our local off licence but they did only have one bottle in stock. It is a fairly hard drink to get your hands on, unless you’re in a large supermarket where you should find a bottle quite easily. Most corner shops just don’t...
