Advantages: Taste delicious, quite cheap and easy to find Disadvantages: Can make your mouth sore if you eat too many
...Nan's come to stay with us over the Christmas and New Year period. She's been very ill over the past couple of months but is gradually getting better and better. She sits in front of 'the comfy' chair in our living room and watches TV and reads her mags, and lately she's been making some 'requests' when mum and me go out to the shops for groceries.
She's only been with us a week or so, but a couple of days ago she asked us to get her some Rhubarb and Custard 'sucky sweets' (that's her term, not mine) from Marks and Spencer, as they are one of her favourites. We tried to explain to nan that the nearest Marks and Sparks to us is about a fourteen mile round trip, but she just didn't get it. We told her we were going to Tesco but that we'd have a look for her anyway to see if they did their 'own variety', but mum and me didn't hold...
Advantages: It's tiny, Apple sexiness, easy to use, clear screen and interface. Disadvantages: Relies on net access too much, can work out expensive for Apple accessories
...I am 24 and have had to deal with someone close to me dying.
My Nan was my dads mum, and I feel as if she was the only one who really cared about me. She was the one who used to play with me as a child and take me to the park as my own parents were not bothered.
As I got older (12-13) I used to see her everyday and do any shopping that needed doing. What really used to annoy me was the fact that it was me who used to go round and see her everyday and do her shopping, my parents only went round on Tuesdays to pick up her pension and 'their' attendance allowance for looking after her although it was always me who did her shopping and any odd jobs.
By the time I was 13 (1993) my nan was going senile. She was quite forgetful at times. I had a problem with my parents so I had to go into care, I as they call it 'went off the rails' It...
Advantages: Nice to see King as a person, not just the writer Disadvantages: If you hate baseball, this won't interest you
....
Supposedly, the Boston Red Sox are a cursed team, not having won baseball's World Series since 1918. However, every year the same dedicated fans, the Faithful, turn up for Spring training and to every game at Fenway Park, hoping beyond hope that this will be their year. For many of them, the 2004 season would be no different than usual. For Stephen King and Stewart O'Nan, it was business as usual except that they would be writing down their thoughts, instead of just having them.
With these two men, we follow the highs and lows of the Red Sox 2004 season, from the pre-season thoughts to Spring training, all the way through until the end of the season. It's an interesting format for a book, written in parts by both authors in a kind of diary format, but also featuring E-Mails between the two of them, chatting about the games, their thoughts...
Advantages: An absorbing, funny and moving book. Disadvantages: Can be confussing at first realising who's story you are reading
...these three women, in different decades, find themselves pregnant out of wedlock.
How does the society of their day treat their dilemmas?
The story cleverly switches between the three women who describe the events from their point of view in the first person narrative. The story is balanced equally between heartbreak and hilarity and the highs and lows of growing up.
It was 1997: the year Blair was elected, and Diana died; and the year that changed everything for Charlotte, Karen and Nan - the three main characters.
It is a story that both mothers and daughters can relate easily too, and is far more than 'chick lit' - this book has some good social and moral stories to tell - a book that I think all teenage girls ( and why not boys!!) should read.
THE CHARACTERS
I found all of the characters in this book very believable...
Advantages: A short punchy story that kept my interest. Disadvantages: Have to remember to order the sequel from the library now!
...; the hardship, the futility and the way the people have tried to cope with a situation that is entirely outside of their control. Chas and his friends have adapted to a life of continuous bombing, rationing, blackouts and danger; they have become numb to certain aspects of the War. For example, they are able to hunt around bomb sites for souvenirs with only a passing glance at the casualties that are caught in the explosion. The Machine Gunners is short, punchy and full of twists, turns and interesting imagery. The characters are very easy to identify with; in fact I could picture their faces and almost imagine they were MY relatives that Westall had bought to life.
Apart from Chas, my favourite characters are Chas? Nan and Boddser Brown. When Chas? Nan says she is going strangle ?Hitler and his bloody Jarmans? I believe her and can actually...
Advantages: Cheap as chips, but more interesting Disadvantages: Hmmm, only the irritating chain speak on the menu
...are encouraged to "Go on then, why not"...) I want to read a description of the food, not the work of someone who wants to write comedy.
In summary: I thoroughly reccommend Nando if you want to eat somewhere cheap and casual, but nicer than say Pizza Hut. It's relaxed and fairly quick, so is a good option for a bite to eat before/ after the cinema, shopping etc. It's hardly Gordon Ramsay, but well, if you just want a decent cheap meal, Nan-do it....

Review of Nando, UK
Advantages: Tastes lovely, reminds me of nan, quite cheap, easy to find Disadvantages: None
...I've been eating Billy Bear Sliced Sausage for years now, and don't ever intend to give up! Mum started to buy this very yummy meat when me and my brother were very little, to encourage us to eat more, I think, as we were both very fussy eaters when we were small - oh, how times have changed. I couldn't stand meat when I was little and mum tried every which way possible to get me to eat it - then she hit on Billy Bear Sausage Slices and there was no stopping me! I used to love it in my packed lunch sandwiches when I was in primary school and I also liked to eat it with beans and mash for tea.
Now I am 'all grown up', I still love to eat it! It's my nan's fault, really. When she comes to visit us at weekends, she brings us little things, like a few sweets or magazines and occasionally she will bring us really weird and wonderful...

Review of Billy Bear Sausage
Advantages: My nan is going home Disadvantages: Is my nan prepared to go home
...For anyone that has read my review regarding the challenge about me, you will have seen that I had a battle with my nan and the care she is receiving on discharge from hospital so I thought I would not give you advice on this as such but just let you know what I found out when dealing with my nan. Now I am not moaning about the care that my nan has received in any way - she has received excellent care however I am moaning about the discharge procedure and how we have had to fight to get her some home help etc. I just want to make this clear from the start that my nan is not entitled to any social services help of any kind, it is all means tested and with the money she has everything she needs has to be paid for by herself.
My nan fell 13 weeks ago in the middle of the night and broke her arm and her leg. Four years ago she fell...
