Nancy Drew: Super Sleuth

Sid and Nancy.. Love Kills

Advantages: Gary Oldman rocks, you can scare your kids into not doing heroin!!
Disadvantages: The start of the film is pants, Chole Webb's portrayal of Nancy makes you cringe

Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54

Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.

Unable to afford a Blu-Ray player my sister and I bought the Panasonic DVD-S54 to match our parents brand new Panasonic TX-32LZD80 LCD television as their Christmas 2008 present. Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied. On Christmas day when opened we found a relatively small box tightly packed with the player in polystyrene packaging. ...Well it’s been a while now since I wrote anything but I have been rather busy of late. For anyone that has read my opinions before, you will know that I love to cook as it is one thing that I am really good at. I thought for this one I would share with you a few of my recipes. Nancy’s Shepherd's Pie Mix into a bowl 2lb minced lamb 1 onion chopped and diced salt and pepper (or a few optional spices) 3 knobs of butter or margarine 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil 4 tablespoons of plain flour 1 tablespoon of Tomato puree 2 OXO cubes Put the lamb into a frying pan and cook until the lamb is a nice brownish colour. Stir in the flour and mix well, add the tomato puree and then add the Oxo cubes and cook until the mince and sauce is a nice thick consistency. Boil and then mash some old potatoes. Add...

Nancy Drew, super sleuth

Disadvantages: Nancy is too perfect, old-fashioned language

An underwhelming read

Advantages: Well written, good story
Disadvantages: Built up tension then disappointed

...This was the last book I read for my monthly book group, and I thought I would share my thoughts on it. Due to a library hiccup, I had to go out and buy a copy just a few days before we met. I bought it in paperback from Waterstones for £7.99, but you can definately get it online cheaper. A few interesting facts about Nancy Huston. She is Canadian, but not French Canadian. She moved to Paris many years ago, and now writes her novels in French and English, effectively translating her own work. Fault Lines is the story of four children from the same family, going back through time to World War II. We start wth Sol, go to his father Randall, his mother Sadie and end with her mother Kristina, also known as Erra. It is an interesting way of writing the story, moving backwards instead of forwards to reveal the family's secrets...
