...The Birth of a Nation is a black and white silent film from 1915. It?s not a film I had heard of before, and the reason I watched it was because it was on the film list for a course I am taking at university. The film is based on a novel by Thomas Dixon called ?The Clansmen?. I had read up a little bit about the film before I started watching it so I wasn?t as surprised as I might have been about the content. The film was (and still is) controversial for promoting white supremacy, and I thought most of it was quite racist! The film was regarded as a very important film in its day as it used many new filming techniques which hadn?t been seen before. ...As a student my consumption of rum and other spirits is unsurprisingly high and often this means going for low end spirits which are easy on the wallet ! however when at home this summer i saw mount gay rum and was recommended it by a friend so bought a bottle from a local wine store for about £16 which even on my budget was reasonable. Originating from barbados the rum has a deep history going back to 1703 and claiming to be the oldest rum in the world. USing only the finest sugar cain and coral waters of barbados. My bottle was a dark rum called the mount gay rum eclipse range and had 43% percent with 86 proof. The coulour of th rum was very enticing as it had a beuatiful golden almost caramel complexion. ...Barbados you will see their National Flower called the Pride of Barbados. It?s a member of the Legume family (Dwarf Poinciana). It?s a shrub that can be pruned into a neat hedge. If left alone it can grow extremely large. The bright flowers are there all year round and are really pretty. The beauty of the Hibiscus flower is to hard for me to describe, it is what I call pure innocent beauty, other words escape me. You can see it all over the island just growing there freely.
