...The long established,US-based,travel publication, National Geographic,is one of the most respected travel magazines in the world.It is not difficult to find the reasons why this is so. Firstly it is a beautifully produced publication with pictures by award winning and world famous photographers. Indeed it is one of the glossiest magazines in the market. Secondly,its articles are highly informative,very well researched and reliable. Thirdly,although US based it is not parochial-its editorial coverage spans the world. It also really does cover out of the way spots and is a wonderful guide if you are an adventurous type of traveller. There is little doubt in my mind that this publication is high on the list of magazines that travel writers aspire to write for. A MAGICAL CARPET RIDE

...I don't think there is a person alive who hasn?t read at least one issue of National Geographic. The magazine has entertained young and old minds for years. When I was a child my parents and Grandparents subscribed to National Geographic, and now 20 years later my husband has a subscription. This magazine has an uncanny knack of capturing the souls of our people, culture, plants (yes, plants), and animals as they live and exist on this blue planet, then animate them into just one photograph. In fact, the pictures National Geo captures often leave us, the reader, in awe, amazement and wonder. Just recall that picture of the poverty stricken Afghanistan girl's dazzling grey eyes about fifteen years back. That image has been engrained in many of our minds still many years after its publication. Simply amazing. No other magazine...

Lay Back, Relax And Watch The Star's !!!!!

Advantages: Wow

...My eldest boy has always been into telescopes and I have bought him just about every type of toy and early stage scope on the market so when I saw the National Geographic Star Planetarium I just had to buy it for him. I first spotted it in Toys R Us for £39.99 but checked online and ordered it from Amazon at £29.99 and it promptly arrived three days later and I gave it to him to try out. As soon as I gave it to him it was out of the box and being set up which only consisted of popping in the batteries and turning it on. He absolutely loved it below I will explain what it does and how you use it. ...I applaud the programme editors, writers and cameramen, crew whatsoever who made the programmes on National Geographic ever so interesting. Particularly, I enjoy the episodes on the coverage of Antartica whereby two French men set their foot on completing a journey of over 2000km on ice at minus 70 degrees celsius. It was an amazing coverage where tremendous amount of determination and perseverances are shown by the two French. Besides, there are other intriguing programmes abt our mother Earth. One was on the discovery of the methane gas at the Bermuda triangle at the Atlantic ocean. The mystery of ship and flying planes disappearing in what appear to be a calm sea. One minus point is, the program is only shown at midnight (UK time) and lasts an hour. That means I would go to sleep only at 1am in the morning. Could...

Entertaining as well as educational

Advantages: Quality and variety

...National Geographic is to be commended for the high quality of its programming on this channel. Rarely are nature programmes of this quality seen outside the BBC, but the bulk of this channel's programming is certainly not the low budget, quasi-amateur footage that we've come to expect elsewhere. There's a good variety of subject matter too, certainly not all of it appeals to me, but perhaps that's just as well or I'd never leave the TV. I'm not sure why it's available for so few hours each day (perhaps lack of advertising?), and certainly wish they'd extend their broadcast time. My main crticism is on the emphasis so many of their programmes seem to place on the 'nature red in tooth and claw' aspect of creatures' lives, or the dwelling on danger in other types of programme - certainly such aspects need to be covered; but in some...

...I thoroughly enjoy watching the National Geographic Channel as I find the programmes, especially those on wild animals, extremely interesting. However, it really does annoy me when I sit down to watch an interesting sounding programme to discover that is was one I watched several months earlier. In some cases it's not even several months in between showings of the same programmme. This happened last night when I sat down to watch a programme entitled 'Hunters', about African Big Cats, a subject my husband and I particularly enjoy watching programmes on. We realised that we had only recently watched the programme and so switched to another channel. I think that if National Geographic were to show less repeats it could greatly increase it's audience as it is an extremely informative and fascinating channel...............unless you...

...I am always looking for magazines for my seven year who can't get enough of them. I would always rather she read something educational and informative than reading ones full of disney and cartoons, so I was surprised and happy to discover National Geographic Kids. The cover price is £2.99, it seems expensive but its really not that far off other children's magazines. The cover is very bright and colourful with great pictures of animals. There is loads inside. Just to name a few things, in the May 2007 issue there is how to feng shui your room, toucans and trees, a handwriting personality test. There a fantastic and brilliantly written feature on the plight of 80 million children around the world who are too poor to go to school, at the end of the two page feature, there is a section on what children can do to help - its excellent...
