National Trust working holiday

Advantages: Very good fun, make new friends, very cheap holiday
Disadvantages: Be prepared to get muddy

...On browsing Ciao I was very surprised to find no other reviews on the National Trust working holiday experience. I did one last year and loved it! Admittedly, I didn't even do one for fun - although I had lots - but it was an easy way to complete my Duke of Edinburgh Award. Now, I would strongly consider going again, this time for fun. The holidays can be found on an easy to navigate website, or you can request a brochure. The booking staff were extremely efficient with me - I needed a working holiday at short notice, (ie a couple of days beforehand), and the next day all the relevant information was on my doormat. I was met off the train and although I had booked last notice it was all taken care of. It cost me about £50 for a week, food, accommodation, and equipment included. Very cheap! You also get a free year's membership...

Nation Building

Advantages: Away from the Discworld, Pratchett continues to examine our own: wry, witty, satirical
Disadvantages: Perhaps a little too gentle for the fans whose focus is purely Disc-bound

Holiday !

Advantages: Nice sweet film, romantic comedy
Disadvantages: Not the best romantic comedy I have seen, some may find it too sickly sweet!

Advantages: Important film in film making history
Disadvantages: Contraversial. I don't agree with the views of the film, a little too long

...The Birth of a Nation is a black and white silent film from 1915. It?s not a film I had heard of before, and the reason I watched it was because it was on the film list for a course I am taking at university. The film is based on a novel by Thomas Dixon called ?The Clansmen?. I had read up a little bit about the film before I started watching it so I wasn?t as surprised as I might have been about the content. The film was (and still is) controversial for promoting white supremacy, and I thought most of it was quite racist! The film was regarded as a very important film in its day as it used many new filming techniques which hadn?t been seen before. Trust in a National Annual Season Ticket

Advantages: The National Trust is committed to saving as much of our heritage "FOREVER, FOR EVERYONE".
Disadvantages: Looking after lots of national treasures is expensive.

Do check opening times, as some properties in the same area can't open on the same day (especially the smaller ones), due to volunteers taking it in turn to staff them. We go on self-catering holidays, so apart from the standard cost of the cottage and petrol, we have very little extra expenses when making full use of this ticket. We don't go in for nightlife, as we would rather be out and about in daylight hours exploring the joys that our countryside has to offer. Disadvantages: Poor food, not for everyone, attitude of drivers, north of England departures only

...National Holidays are based in Leeds and offer coach holidays throughout the British Isles and continental Europe to holiday makers from most of the north of England. Their departure area is split into two - the North East and Yorkshire, and the North West and Lancashire. Within these sections there are a number of departure areas and within each of these a selection of pick up points. Therefore the first couple of hours of any trip will be spent picking up other passengers from the area before you really get underway. We live in Gateshead which is one of the days first pick up places and this means that any trip we want to go on will still require a two hour trip around the north east before we can go anywhere. ...National Treasure has to be one of my favourite Disney Movies in the last 10 years, and even though I think of myself logically too old for Disney films, this particular film has such a likeable, watchable quality to it, and at times reminds me of my younger years. For me national treasure has everything, action, comedy, family feel movie, yet at the same time not too cheesy. Express around the Nation?

Advantages: cheaper than flying/trains at short notice
Disadvantages: much slower than most other transport options

...So after my happy experience travelling the other weekend I'm off on my travels again, this time risking a foray in to the world which my parents inhabit. So as Bolton has no airport, Lydd has no train station but both have bus stops it seems logical that I would consider getting the coach to Bolton. This is as far as I know the only national coach service in the UK (although in Scotland it is run under the City Link name) and is a member of the european Eurolines coach network. I booked my travel using the nationalexpress.com website the site is mildly confusing if you don't want to use one of the their funfare or travel from one of their more popular stops.
