I happened to buy a brand new MGTF at about the time Nationwide Autocentres came into being and so I've been getting my car serviced by MG Rover and haven't needed to visit Nationwide for about 4...

Nationwide: Flex Account

Advantages: Good rates and great for internet usage. Excellent card when abroad.
Disadvantages: Slow to respond to internal e-mails.

Once opened, it can be assessed on-line and money transferred from account to account with relative speed and ease. One of its best assets is its debit card. If you travel abroad and need to draw out local currency, the card will let you but, you DONT incur any extra charges or fee's. You'll simply get charged the exchange rate for the amount. Well worth just for that reason alone. Their interest rates are reasonable and, with many branches around, its not hard to get access. Morgage rates are quite good with competitive trackers. Advantages: Been around for years (not me - the bank)
Disadvantages: Some staff need better training and mortgages are hard to get if self employed

...As a loyal Portman Building Society Customer I was a little sceptical as to what to expect when they were bought out by Nationwide Building Society. Nationwide claim they are "Proud to be different", and they certainly are. Although they supply a large number of high interest savings accounts, fixed rate ISA's at a whopping 6.15 percent and great value deals on mortgages I noticed a couple of downfalls as well. With specialised savings accounts customers are normally issued a passbook to track their investment records. Nationwide's Passbook is dark blue in complexion with the Nationwide logo emblazoned on the front in gold. The pages inside in my opinion are not of very good quality especially compared to the offerings of the Yorkshire Building Society and Britannia. Nationwide flex account

Advantages: Great for foreign travel

...The Nationwide Flex account is a great account to have if you do a lot of travelling abroad. I opened a Nationwide Flex account with one main thing in mind - ie to get a good exchange rate abroad without incuring any fees for withdrawing cash. The Nationwide Flex account debit card is the only debit card that you can use abroad to withdraw cash from ATM's and to pay for goods without paying a 'charge' for it.. (although it does state that some ATM's make a charge which is outside their control, I have never had any charges incurred.) I have used my card now three times whilst travelling abroad. The exchange rate I have been given has always been excellent - much higher than local currency exchangers, banks and other UK banks. Advantages: Good branch network, 0% exchange rate transaction fee
Disadvantages: Telephone queues, poor customer service

...I've banked with the Nationwide for the last 5 years and the service has become gradually worse to the point where I have recently taken my business elsewhere. The accounts themselves are no longer market leading and better products are available from the "supermarket bank" and via online access to provincial building societies. The telephone customer service has always had an awful auto attendant system but call queues have grown gradually worse. From my point of view it's now actually quicker to type a letter and wait for a response or returned call than wait to be told that I will have to confirm in writing anyway. The branches will no longer accept more than 5 bags of counted coinage, something I find frustrating as an annual clear out of small change can take weeks to realize. It's also the only transaction I can't complete...

...After a nightmare 4 years with Barclays i decided to find a new bank. Due to circumstances i needed to find a bank that would let me open an account and deposit a cheque into it on the same day. After looking around a few places, i found Nationwide to be the only bank that could help. --In Branch-- The branches are pretty much everywhere now. Most high streets have one or even two! I knew from the moment i looked through the window i had chosen the wrong time to come and open an account-lunchtime! There were around 10 seats for people waiting for an advisor. Nationwide does it again!

Advantages: great customer service

...Overview ------------ Nationwide is a well known bank in the UK. It has an outlet in nearly every town across the country. Incentives ------------- Not much at the moment but then again not many banks are offering good deals for borrowers or savers due to the credit crunch. Isas are probably the best bet at the mo. ...NATIONWIDE GLOUCESTER I booked my 2001 VW GOLF 1.6 in for a MOT and at 2.30pm he rang to tell me my car had passed the MOT and was ready for collection. I presented my AA card and got discount off the MOT - everything was so painless and friendly - even the bill of £119 was reasonable. This was such a welcome change for me as I am currenlty in dispute with KWIK FIT (Cheltenham). They fitted a complete exhaust for £348 a few months back and I've returned my car to them 9 TIMES!! They have replaced the Cat converter and the middle section (wrong one fitted first time) under warranty but the exhaust is still making an awful din..... Avoid them like the plague. The told me to take my car to VW as they couldn't fix it! ~I did and now I am trying to get KWIK FIT to pay the £98 bill and repair the faults that VW...
