Aquarium plants is a must for those fish lovers
Review of Member Advice on Setting Up An Aquarium by
Versatile
Advantages: Keeps fish healthy - food supply
Disadvantages: may need the odd trim - especially when plants start to over grow.
...After scanning most of the topics on offer i`ve decided to write about aquarium plant life as my first opinion.I own a huge fish tank full of tropical fish and all the added extras that you need. I`m going to talk about the importance of aquarium plants - When i started with tropical fish nobody pointed out how important aquarium plants can be when setting up an aquarium and so i`ve decided to talk about this area in particular.
AQUARIUM PLANTS:
Aquarium plants are availabe in many forms and contrasting shades. They look nice, they keep your aquarium healthy and fish thrive in a more natural habitat. They provide refuge, shade, food and even spawning sites for certain fishes.
The choice of the plants is almost as wide as that of the fishes.Plants can be selected to occupy different areas of the tank, from floating plants on the water...

The jewel of the ocean
Review of Two Oceans Aquarium (South Africa) by
KELLYLOUJ
Advantages: Lots to see, Value for Money
Disadvantages: Can be busy at peak times
...The Two Oceans Aquarium is situated just off the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront on dock road. This was in walking distance from our hotel of just 5 minutes (see review on table bay hotel).
I noticed that there were parking spaces located close to the aquarium and if you used the spaces behind the aquarium you could claim back your money at the ticket office.
****Admission Costs****
Adults R60.00 // £5.00
Children (4-17) R28.00 // £2.00
Under 4 Free
Pensioners R45.00 // £4.00
Students R50.00 // £4.00
If you are in a group fo 10 or more then there is a 10% discount.
This is really good value for money because you get your hand stamped so you can reenter the aquarium as many times as you like so is really handy to have.
****Opening Times****
Daily 0930 - 1800, 365 days...

What a Pretty Sight
Review of Member Advice on Setting Up An Aquarium by
aquar1us
Advantages: Pretty, easy to look after
Disadvantages: Can be expensive to set up
...with the thermostat.
An air pump is a good idea, but not needed. A filter should be used to keep the water pure and clean.
Decorations:
It is important to have some aquarium plants as it helps to create a natural environment for the fish. A few examples of these plants are:
Vallisneria
Hygrophila,
Cabomba,
Indian Fern.
There are a number of other decorations available such as rocks and shells. you can also buy different shaped objects such as tunnels, and little castles. Its quite fun to chose them.
Choosing Fish:
When choosing your fish it is important to have in your mind the sort of thing you are looking for. A tank 60cm in length, 40cm high and 30cm wide will hold approximately 20 to 30 fish, depending on their size. Dont overcrowd a tank as the fish will not be able to develop properly.
There are two types of fish- livebearers, such as the Guppy...

The importance of tank furnishings
Review of Member Advice on Setting Up An Aquarium by
Zebra
Advantages: Many species to pick from & looks good in homes/offices/restaurants/ etc
Disadvantages: If you plan to buy an aquarium you have to go all the way -Expensive initially
....Having a tank with only fish in it,is more harmful than good.Decorating your tank not only looks good but it has an importanrt function in maintaining your aquarium in good health.
For the purposes of studying a fish`s anatomy closely a small bare tank is ideal, but in order to study a fish`s way of life with all its complexities of feeding, territorial behaviour, breeding etc it is necessary for the fish to feel as at home in the aquarium as it would in its natural surroundings.Hence, the tank needs to be furnished with gravel, rocks and plants to provide the fish with shelter and a sense of security.
NATURAL MATERIALS:
One of the most reassuring environments a fish can have is a dark aquarium floor-covering - The best gravel you can buy for your fish should be mid-brown/yellow appearance. The particle size should be around 2-3mm, being neither too...

Green and Brown Killer Slime
Review of No 04 Greenaway by
wiggglypufff
Advantages: Helps maintain a healthy tank
Disadvantages: Harmful to humans and non-aquatic pets, not suitable for a marine tank, will stain if spilt
...Interpet have been manufacturing aquarium products now for nearly 50 years. Established in 1952, they offer a large range of equipment and preparations beneficial to fish keepers, and of course more importantly to the aquarium fish themselves.
Green Away No. 4, in the Interpet Aquarium Treatment range, is a handy liquid preparation to have. It’s purpose, as the name suggests, is to aid the breakdown and removal of excessive and dangerous algae formation in the tank. That is, the clumps of brown or green algae that have an almost seaweed like appearance rather than the beneficial thin layering of algae that will attach itself to plants, ornaments and glass quite naturally and provide sustenance to many of your fish.
The use of the product is to dose the aquarium water when it appears unusually brown or green in colour, or if you...

More Fishy Stuff
Review of No 05 General Tonic by
wiggglypufff
Advantages: General fishy 'pick me up', helps to promote a healthy aquarium
Disadvantages: Not suitable for some aquatic pets, harmful to humans and non aquatic pets
...Interpet are one of the leading manufacturers in aquarium products. Having traded since 1952, they offer excellent quality products and nearly 50 years of experience. There’s a quite extensive range of equipment and preparations which are beneficial to fish keepers, and of course more importantly to the fish themselves.
Liquisil, No. 5 in the Interpet Aquarium Treatment range, is a very useful water treatment for fish enthusiasts to keep at hand. It’s a general tonic, a fishy ‘pick me up’ if you like. It works by helping to keep the naturally occurring bacteria, fungus and parasites at a level that is harmless to the fish.
This product can be used in several different ways...
¨ as a boost when a new aquarium is set up
¨ as a stress reliever when new fish are added
¨ as a precaution if fish appear ’off...

My Goldfish TetraFin(k) it's lovely!!!
Review of TetraFin Flake Food by
Youngatheard60
Advantages: Healthy food for fish
Disadvantages: none
...that they remain active, healthy and as colourful as nature intended. TetraFin is very easily digested and absorbed by goldfish, resulting in less waste and crystal clear water quality".
Tetra has a great website, www.tetrafish.com. It tells you all you need to know about keeping fish, what equipment to use, what fish to buy and how to look after them. This information covers both aquariums and ponds and is very extensive. They even have a section where you can make up a virtual moving aquarium. This is very helpful if you are thinking of starting up fish keeping and is great fun to do even if you are not.
TetraFin is not cheap. I paid £3.20 for a 52g carton, but it does last a long while. If you look around you may find a better price, but I haven't yet.
A couple of times I have tried other foods if I have run out unexpectedly, but I...

WOW WHAT A PLACE TO BE
Review of Stanley Park, Vancouver by
k_jones
Advantages: ACRES AND ACRES OF FUN AND ENJOYMENT
Disadvantages: NOT A THING
...Well if you love nature then you'll love Stanly Park, situated about 5 - 10 min walk from downtown Vancouver this lovely and Free to enter park is full of great attractions.
The first thing is the sheer size of the park it's massive and has a small one way road that circles the outer edge of the park and goes through some VERY high tree lines allowing you and your friends to drive to a location park and just lay around sitting on the grass, catching one of the many performances going on or even just feeding the wildlife that comes around. The park itself is on the Burrard Inlet so you can just sit on a bench and watch the world go by as well as the boats and sea planes that cross the inlet itself. There are play areas, water parks, a 5 star restaurant at least 4 beaches everything you need to enjoy a beautiful Vancouver day.

Let us learn how to love
Review of MopyFish Screen Saver by
djohan
Advantages: Challenging game, practice our patience and learn how to take care pets, freeware
Disadvantages: Need much time
...I have ever written about Sach Marine Aquarium – a screen saver program with various kinds of fishes. I hope they are still alive on your PCs. About a week ago I got a fish with a cheerful nature, called Piscenus Mopei Floataneus as it scientific name or Mopy Fish as its popular name. This aquatic environmental fish is absolutely free of charge!
Though CIAO categorizes this software as a screen saver, I prefer categorizing it under a game software category because it is really a game which resides under our Windows Operating Systems.
It is really an interesting game, which requires much leisure time, patience, good attitudes and special care from its owner. Hence, once you put the fish (install the game) into your personal computer, please make sure you are ready to take care the fish. If you neglect the fish too long, certainly...

A LIFETIME OF ENJOYMENT
Review of Hagen Tropiquarium Range by
Versatile
Advantages: Read opinion
Disadvantages: Read opinion
...of plants that you can buy, some are small, some are tall, some float, some are rooted, some are tropical, some have large leaves, some a rough or smooth in texture – either way its something you still need to take into account when furnishing your tank. Plants play an important role in your aquarium, the available forms & contrasting shades of plant life will keep your tank healthy & your fish will thrive in a more natural habitat. Plants also provide refuge, shade, food & in most cases plants are good spawning sites.
• - Lighting: Even if your tank receives natural light you will still require artificial lighting. At least 12 hours of light per day is needed by fishes & plants alike and artificial lighting is only way you can guarantee this. The tank also looks wonderful when lit in the dark a complete contrast to how you would view it during...
