...Got this sat nav as an early Christmas present for myself because so many people have said good things about it. I must say it's exceeded all my expectations. It is not your average sat nav system as it's a very high-tech device but very easy to use. Unlike the gentleman in the other review I found it to be very easy to install the speed cameras, you just have to click one button!! The beauty of this system is that the speed camera database is updateable monthly free of charge, this is not the case with many other sat navs. The system came with a double CD-ROM containing all the maps of Western Europe and also with its own destinator software, and the most exciting thing of all, Microsoft Outlook Activesync which is an invaluable piece of software. nav-cam sat nav cheap as chips and great to use!!!

Advantages: Speed camera alerts bonus features such as mp3 and photos and low price tag.
Disadvantages: None that ive discovered so far.

It is so helpful and makes life much easier, gone are the days of having to fight with a tatty road map that you arent even sure is the right ways up, pick up one of these babys and youll never look back. ...I agree, Grundig nav100 is definitely far better than any tomtom!! Why is the tomtom so popular here anyway?? I have had nothing but problems with my tomtom? All this is going to change when this little beauty is available in the UK. Well actually you can get it now, I got mine from amazon UK for £399.99 but apparently it will be launched officially next year. You can also get it from Europe but with postage it will cost the same anyway. Ok, now my review? I love the fact that a 5 year old can use this, it's the most user friendly GPS ever, and the screen is almost like a High Definition TV!! It is so easy to see it in any lighting conditions. TomTom Wireless GPS Receiver 20 channel GPS receiver module

Advantages: good

...I dont have a 20 channel receiver however I do have a 12 channel receiver which came in the box with my Tom Tom Navigator 5 for PDA, whichi I use in my Treo 680 Smart Phone. The whole thing works perfectly and I couldn't ask for more as Sat Nav goes. The GPS receiver looks identical to the 20 channel one shown here and if this one works as well as mine does then you can't go wrong. It has a matt cover which makes it stay put where ever you place it on the dashboard and in use I've found that it picks up a signal very quickly and once linked to the PDA by bluetooth it keeps the signal so long as it can see just a tiny bit of sky. Once linked I take the unit off the dash and place it on the floor of the car in between the seats and it keeps the signal through motorway tunnels and even during a traffice halt under a bridge! ...Well! I searched for a Sat Nav hoping to find something under £150 and was shocked to find this at £100. Really cheap price and seemed to come with a lot. I read that the Sat Nav included 'Points of Interest' such as hotels, restaurants and petrol stations and thought this was a great price to include all these features as well as the Microsoft Office package on the PDA. I was a bit bothered when it arrived though that it only came with a car charger, so how was I supposed to use the thing in my house? The only way of recharging the battery which was pretty much dead on arrival, was to sit in my car and wait (and get hounded by the environmental lot) or...to buy an AC power adaptor which cost £30-£40 (ridiculous price) So the first week I went without and just used the Sat Nav once to see if it worked, which it did...

Advantages: Good quality nav
Disadvantages: far too fiddly with lots of wires

...Good quality nav unit - locates satellites very quickly, dosen't come with a case which is disappointing at this price. Will work with iphone but for control only, no audio via unit or video from iphone. The built in TMC is very good but only works if connected to the gateway amplifier, if used as a standalone with the supplied cigarette lighter adaptor then TMC is not available, this seems odd as the amp and the lighter lead both supply 5v to the unit. Speed camera updates are available free for the first year but you need a SD card to add them to the unit. Built in microphone for the bluetooth is a bit weak, constantly having to shout. All in all a good unit, but not perfect. If your vehicle has a standard DIN socket then i'd change the factory unit but if you can't then there isn't much better at the moment....

There were a few specifications that I had in mind when looking for a suitable GPS system. I didn't want to spend too much money to begin with. For months previously, I had been observing reviews and prices of sat nav systems online, and what was clear to was the fact that new systems were constantly being released, which meant that prices were being reduced all the time. So I didn't see a point in splashing out on an expensive system, knowing that the price would probably fall before long. I also wanted a widescreen sat nav, simply because they look better and more modern, but also because pretty much all new sat nav systems are manufactured in widescreen, and that the 4:3 screen aspect ratio will become a thing...
