The best GPS receiver I have seen yet!

...) alternatives. Suddenly, the GlobalSat BT338 popped up in front of me. It looked more like a fold-up mobile phone. I seriously thought that it was all looks, and no function. I was fortunately proven wrong. One quick eBay bid, and a couple of days later, I was holding the GlobalSat BT338. The first thing that struck me was how small, but solid the device felt. Of the external appearance, only one thing bothered me, and that was the rubber cover for the DC power supply (to the lower left of the image shown). The rubber was so soft, that it felt rather anaemic. The device is supplied with a large capacity 1700mAH Li-Ion battery. When you see how small this GPS receiver is, you'll be even more amazed that about half of that size holds the battery. ...I dont have a 20 channel receiver however I do have a 12 channel receiver which came in the box with my Tom Tom Navigator 5 for PDA, whichi I use in my Treo 680 Smart Phone. The whole thing works perfectly and I couldn't ask for more as Sat Nav goes. The GPS receiver looks identical to the 20 channel one shown here and if this one works as well as mine does then you can't go wrong. It has a matt cover which makes it stay put where ever you place it on the dashboard and in use I've found that it picks up a signal very quickly and once linked to the PDA by bluetooth it keeps the signal so long as it can see just a tiny bit of sky. Once linked I take the unit off the dash and place it on the floor of the car in between the seats and it keeps the signal through motorway tunnels and even during a traffice halt under a bridge! Great GPS receiver

I have used this with my O2 XDA mini phone and found it to be very reliable. I loaded the Destinator sat-nav software onto my phone, launched the application and swithched on the Holux receiver and once i had set up the pairing in my phone it was good to go! Reception was excellent and accuracy very good. In fact because it is so portable i was able to compare it with my friends Pergout car's factory fitted sat-nav and it beat it for accuracy hands down. Navigation with music and pictures

Advantages: lots of extra features, ability to load more software

...I had Garmin Streetpilot for some years, I drive a lot and make a great deal of use of Sat Nav in my role as a mobile service engineer. I got used to the interface and was very happy with it until recently when it started to prompt me to update the maps. Going to the Garmin site I discovered that the map update was going to cost more than a new Sat Nav so I shelved that idea and was given this Navigo unit as a birthday present. My new car has an Auxiliary port for MP3 players so I was on the lookout for something that would play MP3s, and surprise surprise, the Navigo does just that. The unit is also flatter, so it is practical to take it out of the car in a coat pocket, instead of hiding it under the seat. The Unit comes with a 1 Gigabyte SD card containing all the mapping data and you can copy your MP3s onto the free space...

Review of Navigo SY-885 GPS

Samsung's 'Magical Navigation' is not so magical.

Advantages: Good camera quality, smooth and sleek mobile.
Disadvantages: The touchscreen. Takes a long time to send a text message.

...screen pad, or as Samsung call it the 'Magical Touch ' navigation. Personally I find the 'Magical Touch' name a bit silly, everyone knows it's a mini touch screen, no fancy names needed here! The latest fad with mobile phones seems to be having a touch screen. I thought a touch screen sounded cool and modern, but when using a friend's LG Viewty I realised I couldn't stand using just a touch screen on a mobile. Texting was slightly annoying as you would occasionally hit several letters at once, and no one likes to spend ages sending a simple text message! When I heard this phone had a touch screen but also a keypad I thought this would be great, a touch screen for simple menu navigation but with the keypad still there for texting. - Audio by Bang & Olufsen... I know this is a great brand, but then again the phone doesn't sound particularly...

Garmin Nuvi 200w Sat Nav System

Advantages: Easy to use, does what it's suppsed to do!
Disadvantages: Satellite pairing takes ages, no mains charger!

...When I was recently in the market for a Sat Nav system, there were so many available, that I barely knew where to start. There were a few specifications that I had in mind when looking for a suitable GPS system. I didn't want to spend too much money to begin with. For months previously, I had been observing reviews and prices of sat nav systems online, and what was clear to was the fact that new systems were constantly being released, which meant that prices were being reduced all the time. So I didn't see a point in splashing out on an expensive system, knowing that the price would probably fall before long. I also wanted a widescreen sat nav, simply because they look better and more modern, but also because pretty much all new sat nav systems are manufactured in widescreen, and that the 4:3 screen aspect ratio will become a thing...

Review of Garmin Nüvi 200W

Very impressed with Tom Tom Go

.... At one stage, when I was in Reading City Centre, I did lose satelite lock for a minute or so. This can apparently happen in built-up areas. I guess that the optional external antenna might have helped to retain the signal for a bit longer. This option is also recommended for any cars that have metalic reflective glass installed. As soon as I moved out of the built-up area, we regained lock very quickly and normal service was resumed. You can add Favourite locations onto the unit (again either by address or by current GPS location) This makes navigation from point to point very straightforward. I did connect the unit to my PC and under Windows XP it was immediately recognised as a mass storage device and I was able to copy some Point of Interest (POI) databases from the Internet onto the unit. There's loads of databases available...
