...Navman have got it right in so many ways. There are a few grumbles I have but overall they have done very well. Are you looking to get the best Sat Nav system on the market with all the bells and whistles on it? No. Neither was I. To be honest what I needed was a basic system to tell me to turn at the correct point to ensure that I did not spend time getting lost and swearing loudly at anything and everyone. After browsing the net for a few days I found that I could get the 320i for just over £150 delivered. That to me seemed like very good value so I clicked away and got the system a few days later. The manual that came with it is quite poor to be honest. But within 10 mins I had plugged all the various bits in and waited to get signal to tell me where I was. Disadvantages: 4-digit Postcodes and POI alerts are just not good enough

...more detailed than provided by the Tom Tom and your current location is quoted as both a street number and name which is quite impressive but for its other shortcomings. I bought the Navman iCN 520 at a cost of £175 when they were new which compared very favourably with the £300-odd for a Tom Tom 5. Currently (21 February, 2009), you can pick one up for around £60 on eBay.co.uk or even less if you are lucky. Then my advice is to program it as a Tom Tom 5. Although you might be able to just buy a Tom Tom just as cheap now too. There are two extras that you might consider an extension aerial this may make it quicker to initially pick up the GPS satellites when you first turn it on but I have had no problems without one ? even with a windscreen with integral heating wires. The other and in my opinion equally redundant is the remote control...

  A to B the Easy Way - the Navman iCN 520

Advantages: Small, portable, reasonable price
Disadvantages: 5 character post code search; windscreen reflection

...the preferred one using the button on the left of the display. The map can be displayed in a number of ways - the 3D move map is nice and varies in scale depending on your speed. Smaller when you are slow and backing out to a broader view when travelling fast. An excellent feature. Navman recommend letting the unit establish a GPS fix before starting off your journey. Typically this takes 2 minutes. On the move it takes 5 minutes. It can calculate a route before the GPS fix but cannot direct you. I recommend waiting for the fix - it also has the benefit of letting the car engine oil get towards operating temperature which is good for it. Warning - I had one journey where it simply could not get a GPS fix. I set off before a GPS fix was established and it never caught up. On returning home I had to reset the unit to get it to work again. Only...

...I Purchased the Navman back last year, from halfords for a heafty £249.99. But i have to say I have never looked back. Advantages: Quick and easy to install, i'm a women and managed to do it with no help, all I had to do with it was plug it in. The screen and navigation keys are very easy to use, and very clear, makes getting around the system alot easier. The map display is great, and yet again very clear, also has a Point of Interest option on it, which is very useful i.e if you have gone out for the day and you need to get to a garage for petrol or post office etc.. the list is end less on there. The map display can be changed, to either a map, or a list of instructions. with 2d and 3d maps. The display can also tell you your speed, the ETA, distance until you have a another turning, distance until you arrive at you location...

She is awful for directions so to ensure she returned safely I brought this. It was on sale at Halfords for £179.99. I thought this was cheap as they are usually in excess of £200. It was easy to set up and the controls are very simple.You have the option of selecting a tutorial on the screen and it saves you having to flick through the manual. A car charger is included and a stand. We prefer to take the Sat Nav with us when we arrive. It goes in your coat pocket easy. My wife tried it out and had problems getting a GPS fix. It seems our Focus C-Max affects the GPS because of the heated screen. I found out through reading the manual that you should use a external aerial wish they warned you about that. Also...

It is also nice and robust Initial startup requires the SD card to be inserted and then the Maps loaded, this takes moments - new maps and upgrades are available from the Navman website - excellent! To find a destination, the postcode entry screen takes a little time to load but then you can quickly and easily find your destination through several menus. It calculates routes extremely quickly and options such as motorway route, speed/distance options mean multiple routes can be found the Navman voice isn't too annoying. if you take a wrong turn or choose to go a different way the Navman recalculates quite quickly. Its very accurate for your position and has only once got confused...

...The Navman 530 is the successor to the ICN 520 Sat Nav that I own. Buying this was a present for my parents that I landed up keeping myself and buying another for them. Originally I was looking for a simple yet quality packed Sat Nav. As per its predecessor, the 530 is a simple Sat Nav to use and not one of the many PDA's with a Sat Nav function. Navman have been making Marine navigation for a long time and have used the advances they made for sea navigation to make this a great in car solution. Mapping is provided by Tele Atlas and are regularly kept up to date with a website where an anomaly can be report by users and corrected for future releases.
