Advantages: Good interface, cheap, repeated instructions, user-friendly interface

NAVMAN My cheap reliable little helper

Advantages: Cheap, portable, back on track function, nearest parking and petrol buttons
Disadvantages: some of the mapping dater is a little small touch screen buttons

...After getting my last sat nav nicked I haven't been keen on getting another system, I finally made a decision to go out and get a replacement one, and the NAVMAN F20 seemed good value for money. Getting the device into the car up and running is really very easy really, simply attach the simple suction cup holder to a suitable place on the windscreen and plug in the cigarette lighter. Answer a few simple questions about the type of roads you like, etc. the navman is up and running. I didn't read the instructions, as it looked quite straightforward The only real problem I had was getting a fix on the GPS as you need to fix on to 4 satellites to get a lock on to your location The system is a little slow after entering in the information, so it's best to wait till the screen responses, otherwise it gets a little upset...

Navman 320 - A Good Buy

...Navman have got it right in so many ways. There are a few grumbles I have but overall they have done very well. Are you looking to get the best Sat Nav system on the market with all the bells and whistles on it? No. Neither was I. To be honest what I needed was a basic system to tell me to turn at the correct point to ensure that I did not spend time getting lost and swearing loudly at anything and everyone. After browsing the net for a few days I found that I could get the 320i for just over £150 delivered. That to me seemed like very good value so I clicked away and got the system a few days later. Navman S30 3D Satnav

Advantages: Good sound quality, Excellent re-route calculation.
Disadvantages: Gets a litte confused in busy cities due to the volume of roads.

  A to B the Easy Way - the Navman iCN 520

Advantages: Small, portable, reasonable price
Disadvantages: 5 character post code search; windscreen reflection

...the maps of 16 European countries included on CD and a remote control for ease of use. I have not tried the remote control yet but will probably buy one soon. The main players in the portable arena seem to be Navman, Garmin and Tom Tom, although I also considered Mio. Tom Tom started life as a handheld software navigation provider which later expanded to produce stand alone units called Go. A good concept that was updated recently to include some nice features like bluetooth handsfree compatibility with your mobile phone and full 7 character postcode searches. Main downside - the size. Not pocket sized so hard to carry around. Certainly more features than the Navman but also pricier. Garmin have been in the navigation game for many years with a great many specialised units for walkers, boats, planes, cars etc. Garmin have some new units...

Navman ST raight through

Advantages: Gets you there, is upgradable
Disadvantages: Downloading can sometimes be slow

The 2 parts to the software are the Navman ST desktop installation and the actual Navman ST software for directions on your Sat Nav. The bottom portion of the screen has a world map which is shaded in various colours. The countries coloured in a yellow stripe are maps which you currently have keys to. These maps can subsequently be transferred to you PiN when necessary. Other maps can be purchased via the website link at the side of the screen. Tom Tom I could find no history on, albeit maybe they are another company in different cloths, but something about the history of Navman made me buy it. So what are you looking at, £250 for Sat Nav, you can spend upwards of £400 and get live news feeds, and all the other toys you can imagine. If you want to know how to get somewhere and have a radio with a TI (Traffic Information) button on it, and not scared of using a computer to enhance the device, then I can do nothing but advise you to buy the Navman ICN520. 4 months on and mine works fine, I left the original safety plastic cover on the screen which is protecting it fine! ...The Navman 530 is the successor to the ICN 520 Sat Nav that I own. Buying this was a present for my parents that I landed up keeping myself and buying another for them. Originally I was looking for a simple yet quality packed Sat Nav. As per its predecessor, the 530 is a simple Sat Nav to use and not one of the many PDA's with a Sat Nav function. Navman have been making Marine navigation for a long time and have used the advances they made for sea navigation to make this a great in car solution. Mapping is provided by Tele Atlas and are regularly kept up to date with a website where an anomaly can be report by users and corrected for future releases.
