In the navy . . .
Review of Navy Pier, Chicago by
MAFARRIMOND
Advantages: Architectural River Cruise. Stained Glass Window Museum. Funhouse Maze . . .
Disadvantages: Costs can mount up.
...Navy Pier wasn't one of our planned sightseeing excursions during our stay in Chicago. We had however planned an architectural river cruise that was to depart from Navy Pier - booked for 4 p.m. It was a hot sunny afternoon and by 1 p.m. we were already tired and footsore from exploring the city so decided to head for the pier early and grab a cup of coffee and a bite to eat.
It was a good choice.
Navy Pier is a 3,000 foot long pier on the Chicago shoreline of Lake Michigan. It is home to numerous tourist attractions, restaurants and theatres. I suppose I had imagined the pier as a big amusement park - not really my cup of tea! There were elements of this on the pier but there was more to the pier than first envisaged. The advertising states that there is something for everyone at the pier - and there is.
Now we didn...

Us navy seal
Review of Socom 3: U.S Navy SEALs (PS2) by
apatra
Advantages: good graphics with lots fun on line
Disadvantages: dint makes it convenient for offline users.
...the medal of honour and call for duty. Honestly this is a bit different from the two FPS mentioned above by the game play and graphics.
The game graphics is marvelous and I have to be honest, it has edge over war games like the medal of honour and other war games that I have played. In games like the medal of honour, the graphics is rougher and a bit unclear but the socom US navy game has softer and clearer graphics. And another advantage the game has over other war games that I have played is that most of the war games that I have played like medal of honour and call for duty, is based on the second world war settings that might have some outdated weapons, armored tanks and planes but the US navy game has advanced and modern war weapons that we have in our modern times. And the environments look modern looks
For the sound, it is awesome...

Boots Fragrance free Cleansing Lotion
Review of Boots Fragrance Free Cleansing Lotion by
jeszikca
Advantages: Cheap, takes off make-up really well, doesn't irritate or sting
Disadvantages: None
...I was on the lookout for a cleanser that would do the job well, contained no lanolin (I'm allergic), cheap, and didn't look cheap and nasty. I spotted this cleanser in Boots and being £1.45 with LANOLIN-FREE on the back. I couldn't decide between the cucumber version or the fragrance-free version and bought both. Along with the matching toner. Well, they were very cheap! I'm writing for the fragrance-free version here but they are exactly the same other than the packaging and the cucumber scent.
It comes in a sheer blue 150ml tube, with a darker flip-top lid. It doesn't look expensive, but then again, it doesn't look cheap and nasty sitting on your bathroom shelf either. The writing is navy and very small.
It claims to remove make-up and grime quickly and effectively. It is lanolin free, is vitamin-enriched and is dematologically...

Das Boot Torpedoes U-571 Again
Review of Das Boot DVD by
BNibbles
Advantages: The best submarine drama to date
Disadvantages: Very long
...It was only after watching my newly acquired copy of U-571 the other day that prompted me to dust-off my DVD of Das Boot (Director’s Cut) and give it another look.
In the past, this movie has been seen in several formats. Serialised on BBC2 and in standard movie length being two of them.
The DVD version runs for 200 minutes – and that’s just the movie! I suspect that this is closer in length to the TV mini-series in content than the normal movie.
The advantage of the DVD format, is that you can hear the soundtrack dubbed into English, or for the purist, in German with or without English* subtitles, which is, of course, much closer to the original. Tip – If you speak any German, see if you can spot the points where the somewhat primmer English subtitles deviate from the more lavatorial German dialogue...

HELLCATS OF THE NAVY - NOT THE BEST SUBMARINE FILM
Review of Hellcats Of The Navy DVD by
pc2308
Advantages: Good plot
Disadvantages: Poor acting, poor budget
...Hellcats of the Navy was produced in 1957 and was directed by Nathan Juran (First Men In The Moon, Seventh Voyage Of Sinbad)
and was introduced by Chester W. Nimitz Commander in Chief, U.S. Pacific Fleet (CINCPAC), which was in itself a rare thing, as 'Chesty' as he was known was not one for making a television appearance.
He said that it was important to show the public post war that the submarine / naval service was to be thanked for their help during both the Second World War, and he wanted to do it.
The other remarkable thing about this film, was the fact that it was the only film that starred Ronald Reagan and Nancy Davis (David being her stage name, but of course was Reagan)
The story....
The film is based around a true incident that occurs in the Second World War, in the Tsushima Straits a heavily mined area of water...

Ahoy There Me Hearties!.
Review of Royal Navy by
bodybuilder
Advantages: great career. see the world.
Disadvantages: too much time away from home.
...The Royal Navy
Have you ever considered joining the Royal Navy? Well maybe if I tell you a little about it from an ex serving members (twice… 1979-1986 and then again 1992-1997) point of view, maybe it will help you make up your mind. This is purely based upon my own experience.
First of all before being considered for enlistment you have to be vetted, which is very personal to both yourself and your family, as they ask you everything such as: where you were born, where your parents where born, any criminal convictions of your own or your family, where your family live and used to live 10 years previously and plenty of other questions that you would probably wish they didn’t ask.
You must then pass an English and a mathematics test. The tests used to be timed when I did mine and all multiple choice. The tests...

What Is A Sailor - Updated
Review of Royal Navy by
jimbuck
Advantages: Great life. Free cruises on the Grey Funnel Line.
Disadvantages: You can get killed, but only once.
...My opinion of the Royal Navy will naturally lean towards my personnel experiences but much of it will apply to life in the RN as it is today.
However before delving into the mysteries of becoming a sailor, each volunteer should be aware of the Sailor’s Ten Commandments and be prepared to abide by them.
THE SAILOR'S TEN COMMANDMENTS
By Anon.
1. Thou shalt not scrounge, neither shalt thou swing the lead, lest thy resting place be the "Ogwash" where the fishes and whales quench their thirst.
2. Thou shalt not take the name of "Buffer" in vain, or thou shalt have thy name inscribed on a tablet named S.41. and undergo a course of D Q's.
3. Honour thy pusser and thine R.P.O. all the days of thy service, that thy credits may be remembered even as the sands of Egypt.
4. Thou shalt not fill thyself to everflowing...

Good for jumping.
Review of Clarendon Fetlock Boots by
spottydog2
Advantages: Easy to put on, wash and dry.
Disadvantages: A touch on the expensive side.
.... The fetlock boots wrap around hind fetlocks, securing simply with a double strap. The good thing about the straps is that they are easy and quick and secure. The first strap is velcro so and it just touches together. The strap which goes over this that you can see in the photo is elastic. This fixes with a hook into a loop. They are just as easy to undo as they are to do up. The fit is good and there is not fiddling at all when putting them on.
Clarendon fetlock boots are available in navy, black, white and new chocolate brown. These colours all have white fur lining. Just for the record, mine are navy. They are also available in black with black fur lining.
They come in three sizes, pony up to 7.5 inches of bone
horse up to 9 inches of bone...

There are boot sales, and then giant boot sales
Review of Car boot sales (Shop) by
Lancashire_Angel
Advantages: finding bargains, making money from stuff you don't want, good morning out
Disadvantages: can be more like a market, bad weather can spoil it, no guarantees
...I am a car boot sale binger. That is I become addicted to them after one visit, binge, going every week for a few months, and then don't bother for ages - until the next time I need a book, or something from the market stalls! I have been to many boot sales in Lancashire to both buy and sell. I'm going to give my opinion generally on what car boot sales are like based on things a lot of them have in common.
TYPES OF CAR BOOT
You can tell someone's spent hours at various car boots when they know enough to write a section called 'Types of car boot.' These things can be classified?! Oh yes. You see, there are car boots...and then there are giant car boots. The difference is mainly the amount of stalls and punters, the giant car boots usually occurring on a large farm field and having market stalls as well as second-hand stalls...
