...~Introduction~
I have had the Nec e606 for about three months now. I previously had the Motorola a835, which decided to break so I needed to replace it. The problem is that I have a contract with 3 Mobile; I think you will all sigh at that, and that means that I can only put my sim card in a 3 Mobile telephone. As if that?s not bad enough, it has to be a contract and not a pre pay phone. This is probably about the most bearable phone available on the 3 network, so I decided to purchase one on the cheap from eBay.
The phone itself was released when 3 mobile first came into being. It was, I suppose their flagship phone and also the phone by which all of its predecessors have been judged and marked against. It is still very up-to-date and technologically capable of remaining on an even footing with the new phones that companies...

Review of NEC E606
Advantages: Ipod-cool looks, bright screen, large buttons, long battery life Disadvantages: No features, weak camera, poor menu selection and options
...you're an up-and-coming banker wanting to look the biz in the trendy London wine bar, buy Motorola; if you're an international company representative looking for something full of business applications, go with the Sony Ericsson. You won't be disappointed.
But you will be disappointed if you stray from these three giants, and that's the trouble with the NEC 343i. When my contract with Three came up for renewal I wanted to move towards Pay As You Go (simply because I just don't use the phone in that way any more) and I wanted to move away from the slightly chunky, uber-complicated Motorola E1000 that I was using. Looking around on the market for something suitable to my needs, I eventually came across the NEC 343i.
God it's good looking, in a way that reminds you of the super-successful Apple iPod. It looks simply stunning when you...

Review of NEC 343i
Advantages: Smart video phone | Didn't cost me anything Disadvantages: Installed ringtones a tad quiet | Can only download from Three
...I must have gadget freak written in some sort of secret code on my front door, that only salesmen can read. Not too long ago, a salesman from Three managed to read this hidden notice and knocked on the door ready to introduce me to the world of 3G telecommunications. Part of the deal he was offering me, was a very smart looking NEC 338, and of course being the techno-freak that I am, it took very little persuasion to get me to sign on the dotted line.
Three days later and my new toy was delivered by Royal Mail, and I excitedly opened the box, to find :
My new mobile phone,
A battery
A charger (that came in two parts)
A headset
A welcome pack from Three including my USIM card.
~~~The looks~~~
The 338 is a smart clamshell design, the main body of which is black, with the flip top being silver. Being from Three it has...
Review of NEC e338
Advantages: Great location for NEC, Large beds Disadvantages: Restaurant small and very busy
...I used this hotel when visiting the Caravan and Boat Show in the NEC Halls and also the next day a different hall for the France exhibition. It is conveninetly located as you drive past all the halls to get to it. It would be an approx 15 minute walk from the hotel to the main halls and apparently there is a shorter route that can be taken but when I was there this was blocked up or a 2 minute trip in the car. The hotel has been extended in the last year and is very popular so it's advised to book in advance. This hotel frequently has offers on the room rates, so it's worth keeping an eye out for. The staff are very polite and friendly as soon as you walk in, checking in was very quick and efficient. The room was very spacious and very clean and I loved the huge bed, which was surprisingly comfortable if a little firm. The en...
Advantages: Reads practically everything. Writes to TWO formats (+RW and -RW) Disadvantages: None so far, but disk costs make it more important not to waste any
...news is that, unlike Betamax and VHS tapes, at least these things are all the same shape, so that, given a sufficiently versatile machine, it should be possible to read/play them all, even if you can only record one of them.
NEC ND-1300A
And this is where I FINALLY get to the point.
I?ve just bought a NEC ND-1300a DVD Re-Writer to put in my latest reincarnation of my PC. Not only can it read all the existing formats of DVD, but unlike the vast majority of its peers, it can actually write to TWO of them, not the more normal one. There is one other maker producing a similar machine at time of writing, Sony, but this is in such heavy demand that it is on very long delivery and/or higher priced.
At £220 for the retail version, complete with recording software bundle, the NEC doesn?t actually, when bought from www.dabs.com, cost...
Review of NEC MultiSpin ND-1300A
Advantages: Bright & clear display. Fast update times. Great for photo editing and games! Disadvantages: Expensive. Fiddly 'stick' control on front panel.
...an enormously wide angle.
The second thing I learnt is that there are four main types of LCD panel:
- TN + Film
- IPS (superceded by Super IPS, or S-IPS)
- MVA
- PVA
I shan't go into the details - suffice to say that if you wish to read more about them, then a quick Google for "Types of LCD panel" will return most of the information you could require. To cut a long story short though, S-IPS is the preferred type of display for photo editing because of it's wide viewing angle.
Before I finally get onto the device itself, it's worth mentioning the last piece of advice that I found, which settled me upon this monitor. Apparently, the best monitors are Eizo. If you can't afford that, go for NEC, Lacie or Apple. (http://www.anands.net/faq/lcd.html)
I wanted to spend enough, but not a small fortune, so the fact that the NEC was an S...
Advantages: Really cheap multi function phone Disadvantages: the 3 network, no MP3 ringtone
...I wanted a flip phone with bluetooth, built in QUALITY camera, GPS and I wanted it cheap.
I checked reviews on a whole stack of flip phones and they were mainly out of my price range or on such expensive contracts there was no way I could afford them by the month. Others had some oft repeated operation problems that made me concerned as to thier useability.
I found the NEC as an offer for £30 a month, one year contract with the first 10 months free...yes 10 months of a one year contract free. I worked out with this deal I would get all my calls and texts for a year for £60 PLUS the flip phone of my dreams. I read every review I could find on this phone and found none detailing anything other than sulking ex-Nokia users or folk moaning about the battery life.
Well....I've never used a Nokia anyway and find myself capable...
Review of NEC E616
Advantages: Great user interface, easy to use Disadvantages: Very poor battery performance even worse customer services
...The Phone
I got the NEC 616 on the 3 network after consulting with a couple of other owners of the hand set. I decided to take the plunge and pulled myself away from my existing service provider, whom I had been with for many years. I have had many mobile phones over the years and normally change them every 12 months.
The handset arrived bright and breezy they day after I ordered it. It was very nicely packaged. It cam with the following
Nec e616 handset
Standard slimline battery
Extended ?fat? battery
Mains Charger
Usb Data cable
Cd rom with PC sync software.
Instructions and provider paperwork
It was the first time I had seen the phone in the flesh and my first impressions were very good. It is considerably smaller than other 3 phones and well built. I started off by reading the instructions to find out how long...
Review of NEC E313 3G
Advantages: Good for making calls and for playing games Disadvantages: Its too expensive to run
...the service first came to the United Kingdom they had a lot of work to do to see if the equipment and video receivers would work. They did and so they set out to make it big over here. They priced their phone pretty expensively at first one of the first 3G handsets was the Motorola A835 that would have cost you around £399.99 in the big shops. Some of the handsets have now lowered to around £29.99 because a lot of people are using the network. Anyway that gives you an insight of who and what 3G is. Read on if you are interested in the handset of my choice.
***WHAT CAN THE NEC E313 DO? ***
The NEC E313 is not like any other phone on the market. This one is sort of like a portable laptop in one phone. Please note that it doesn?t look like a laptop, it has most of the features of a laptop.
This big boy can do more than what the Nokia handsets...
