Well Versed
Advantages: Perfectly adequate features, compact, beautiful design, brand name, cheap, perfect for newbies and undemanding users.
Disadvantages: Tinny speakers, fairly short battery life, paltry software bundle could've done with more RAM but that's what you get for the price range.
...In over 10yrs of PC computing I've owned 3 desktops and 2 palmtops, but never a laptop. To rectify that my mum purchased a NEC Versa M500e (the e I presume differentiates it from the slightly higher model?) primarily for herself, but everyone else is having a go too. With ability to share broadband it seems a nice time to get one.
This Versa notebook doesn't have the braun of higher end notebooks, but for a budget machine it still packs quite a punch. First timers and those with undemanding needs (net, office applications, some games and multimedia) will find this perfect. NEC mightn't be the boldest name in computing but you've heard of them!
It's been a long time since beige machines were out of fashion, and the M500e isn't one machine that dares to go back. It's a gorgeous silver case with black keys and pad sensor, all sleekly...

Nec = Never Even Consider it!
Advantages: Video camera and calling capability, good compared to other phones available
Disadvantages: Very big and bulky, a pain to use, generally not very good
...~Introduction~
I have had the Nec e606 for about three months now. I previously had the Motorola a835, which decided to break so I needed to replace it. The problem is that I have a contract with 3 Mobile; I think you will all sigh at that, and that means that I can only put my sim card in a 3 Mobile telephone. As if that?s not bad enough, it has to be a contract and not a pre pay phone. This is probably about the most bearable phone available on the 3 network, so I decided to purchase one on the cheap from eBay.
The phone itself was released when 3 mobile first came into being. It was, I suppose their flagship phone and also the phone by which all of its predecessors have been judged and marked against. It is still very up-to-date and technologically capable of remaining on an even footing with the new phones that companies...

NEC = Not Exactly Clever
Advantages: Ipod-cool looks, bright screen, large buttons, long battery life
Disadvantages: No features, weak camera, poor menu selection and options
...you're an up-and-coming banker wanting to look the biz in the trendy London wine bar, buy Motorola; if you're an international company representative looking for something full of business applications, go with the Sony Ericsson. You won't be disappointed.
But you will be disappointed if you stray from these three giants, and that's the trouble with the NEC 343i. When my contract with Three came up for renewal I wanted to move towards Pay As You Go (simply because I just don't use the phone in that way any more) and I wanted to move away from the slightly chunky, uber-complicated Motorola E1000 that I was using. Looking around on the market for something suitable to my needs, I eventually came across the NEC 343i.
God it's good looking, in a way that reminds you of the super-successful Apple iPod. It looks simply stunning when you...

Life after Nokia - with the NEC 338
Advantages: Smart video phone | Didn't cost me anything
Disadvantages: Installed ringtones a tad quiet | Can only download from Three
...I must have gadget freak written in some sort of secret code on my front door, that only salesmen can read. Not too long ago, a salesman from Three managed to read this hidden notice and knocked on the door ready to introduce me to the world of 3G telecommunications. Part of the deal he was offering me, was a very smart looking NEC 338, and of course being the techno-freak that I am, it took very little persuasion to get me to sign on the dotted line.
Three days later and my new toy was delivered by Royal Mail, and I excitedly opened the box, to find :
My new mobile phone,
A battery
A charger (that came in two parts)
A headset
A welcome pack from Three including my USIM card.
~~~The looks~~~
The 338 is a smart clamshell design, the main body of which is black, with the flip top being silver. Being from Three it has...
Don't throw out,but dont rush to buy one-[UPDATED]
Advantages: Cheap to upgrade, good features and upgraded its not too slow
Disadvantages: Not a laptop to go out and buy new.
...connection.
The laptop is cheap to upgrade. But if you're looking to buy a new laptop then I'd advise to buy one of the 1Gb laptops for around £300-£400 if you're looking for something basic, maybe for school or uni. The C160 is not built for gaming and will simply die under the graphic requirements.It is not a good idea to buy this if you are looking for a laptop to last you as, already at full upgrade it is behind the basic models of today.
However if you have one and are thinking of changing it, I'd advise looking into how cheap it is to upgrade.I found mine very cheap to upgrade and is doing okay for me at University.If memory is what you are looking for I'd advise you to look to upgrade again to a 5100rpm 80Gb HDD instead of replacing the 4800rpm 35Gb HDD. I also upgraded the HDD as it died from old age. I now run a Versa C160 Athlon XP-M...
Ideal for NEC Halls
Advantages: Great location for NEC, Large beds
Disadvantages: Restaurant small and very busy
...I used this hotel when visiting the Caravan and Boat Show in the NEC Halls and also the next day a different hall for the France exhibition. It is conveninetly located as you drive past all the halls to get to it. It would be an approx 15 minute walk from the hotel to the main halls and apparently there is a shorter route that can be taken but when I was there this was blocked up or a 2 minute trip in the car. The hotel has been extended in the last year and is very popular so it's advised to book in advance. This hotel frequently has offers on the room rates, so it's worth keeping an eye out for. The staff are very polite and friendly as soon as you walk in, checking in was very quick and efficient. The room was very spacious and very clean and I loved the huge bed, which was surprisingly comfortable if a little firm. The en...
DVD Writing In My NEC of The Woods
Advantages: Reads practically everything. Writes to TWO formats (+RW and -RW)
Disadvantages: None so far, but disk costs make it more important not to waste any
...for this particular project, so a ribbon to itself, it gets.
The one last connection that I nearly always forget until I?ve screwed the lid back on, is the audio connection for the playback of normal music CDs. This runs from the back of the NEC drive to my Sound Blaster card, which has a clearly marked socket for such things. If your audio-CDs are silent too, maybe I?m not alone after all!
Appearance-wise, the machine looks like any other CD/DVD recorder, although it does only have one LED to show disk activity, whereas I?ve been used to a separate one to show that recording is taking place. It?s also a pity that they couldn?t pick the same ivory colour as all the other items protruding from the front panel of my PC, this being slightly greyer.
WHAT ELSE DO YOU GET?
Being the retail version, rather what is called the ?OEM? version...
Jump to LCD with NEC
Advantages: Bright & clear display. Fast update times. Great for photo editing and games!
Disadvantages: Expensive. Fiddly 'stick' control on front panel.
...The last time I bought a monitor, I'm not sure that LCD was even an option. That was back in 1999, when I picked up a 17" Medion CRT. It has done me proud, but for some time it has been flickering, and was beginning to get a little blurred. Still though, I was convinced that a CRT gave a more true rendition of images across the whole of the screen.
I know people who bought LCD monitors some 4 or 5 years ago, and, although the green eyes of envy liked the look of these monitors back then, it has taken until now for me to be convinced that these screens really could replace the trusty old CRT.
My suspicions have not been unfounded. I first noticed that some LCD displays have great difficulty in providing much contrast. On an Excel spreadsheet, on my old work laptop, for instance, it was nigh-on impossible to tell the difference...
The NEC is a winner
Advantages: Really cheap multi function phone
Disadvantages: the 3 network, no MP3 ringtone
...though is a little hit and miss. I live in a very large town where there is good coverage while I'm in it but as soon as I go out into the country to a horsey event or similar the phone really struggles to connect and keep the connection. Once my year is up unless 3 has improved dramatically I shall unlock the phone and return to Vodafone's pay as you go.
In town though I have no complaints whatsoever, the calls are crisp and clear and never get cut off. Texts are fun to make and certainly a better system than my old Panasonic as the NEC allows you to use full stops, commas and question marks....in fact a lot of symbols without having to do handstands...!!!
I can set each of my number entries to show me a photo of who I'm calling which is really handy for me as I cannot read the text without my reading glasses so the picture that gets...
Nec 616 released before it was ready?
Advantages: Great user interface, easy to use
Disadvantages: Very poor battery performance even worse customer services
...The Phone
I got the NEC 616 on the 3 network after consulting with a couple of other owners of the hand set. I decided to take the plunge and pulled myself away from my existing service provider, whom I had been with for many years. I have had many mobile phones over the years and normally change them every 12 months.
The handset arrived bright and breezy they day after I ordered it. It was very nicely packaged. It cam with the following
Nec e616 handset
Standard slimline battery
Extended ?fat? battery
Mains Charger
Usb Data cable
Cd rom with PC sync software.
Instructions and provider paperwork
It was the first time I had seen the phone in the flesh and my first impressions were very good. It is considerably smaller than other 3 phones and well built. I started off by reading the instructions to find out how long...
