Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54

Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.

...At first I wasn't convinced by up-scaling DVD player technology but was persuaded after reading an article in "What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision" magazine. Unable to afford a Blu-Ray player my sister and I bought the Panasonic DVD-S54 to match our parents brand new Panasonic TX-32LZD80 LCD television as their Christmas 2008 present. Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied. On Christmas day when opened we found a relatively small box tightly packed with the player in polystyrene packaging. ...I am in all truth, no great fan of rock critics, many of whom either rely upon flattering their own ego to produce a piece of musical criticism that usually falls into simply stating faults and then adding a couple of lines relating to positives. Advantages: Great Songs Throughout, That Stand Together As A Great Cohesive Piece Of Work

...After The Gold Rush was the first Neil Young album released after his foray with Cosby, Stills, Nash and Young, enabling him to be shot into the limelight and the album to become of greater significance and prominence in the public eye. The album combined many of the elements of his CSNY work with some of his earlier pieces with Buffalo Springfield, with Crazy Horse backing Neil Young on many of the album?s songs. One Of Neil Simon's Best Comedies

Advantages: Wonderful acting, great script, nicely paced

...One of Neil Simon's more accessible & enjoyable screen adaptions. Two old style vaudeville stars agree to reform for a TV special, even though off-screen they hate each other's guts. And it's up to Richard Benjamin, (Walter Matthau's nephew & hard working TV agent), to somehow get them to bury their differences just for this one shot. A lovely story made perfect for both Matthau & George Burns. To my shame I haven't seen many of Burns' old movies and after seeing him shine so brightly here makes me feel I've missed out on a wonderfully talented gentleman. Matthau is always in top form in these kind of Simon comedies: notably Plaza Suite & The Odd Couple. ...The inimitable Neil Gaiman has his crowds of adoring fans, and it is to his credit that he still turns out a different kind of genre-defying book each time. While this book follows on from one of the characters in American Gods, it is by no means a sequel. It is much lighter in tone. Not many authors can pull off farce, set it in several different countries and cultures, and even genres, but Neil Gaiman manages to make it all look easy. Anansi Boys is perhaps the least dark of his adult books, which is not to say that it is not dark. Gaiman understands the original essence of fairy tales and folk tales, and combines an edge of horror with an improbable yet plausible story. ...A sixteen year old Stacie Orrico first burst on to the music scene with the hit single 'Stuck' in the Summer of 2003. I remember seeing the video on MTV and thinking that with a voice that powerful and a song that brilliant I really should know who this unfamiliar artist was. I even had a conversation whilst on holiday with the girlies when the song came on the TV in a bar one night about how much we loved the song, yet none of us had a clue who this Stacie Orrico was. With the rise of reality TV and the emergence of the TV-to-pop-star transition (think Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan and Kylie Minogue) it seems that most popstars nowadays have already built up a fan base before they have even released their first single.
