...The Netgear DG834PN is the latest version of the DG834 and combines an ADSL modem with a wireless router and 4 port switch. In plain English, this plugs in your phone socket and allows one or more PCs to share the connection via either a wired or wireless link. The modem part is ADSL2+ ready and should work with even the fastest ISP offerings out there which as at Dec 2006 are around 12mbps in the UK. The setup wizard worked flawlessly and apart from the username and password, worked everything else out for itself and had the DG834PN up and running in a couple of minutes. As with most similar devices, further configuration is done via a web interface. The wireless section supports 802.11b and 802.11g as well as Netgear's own 802.11 Super G variant offering 108Mbps. I believe after extensive searches this is a very good price for this bit of kit, some may say i am crazy but i have ADSL and DSL in my home and using two different wireless routers have found no problems yet. First of all Netgear's claim that it can operate at 270mb which is more than 2 times that of a standard home/office 10/100mb network and a good deal more than my old 54g (30mb+/-) router's speed, had to be tested. Netgear DG834G Wireless ADSL Router; perfect home solution

...I used modems supplied my my internet service provider and experienced problems with connectivity and drop out. In the end I got so sick of phoning the ISPs to report problems to be given the same twaddle (updating drivers etc.) that I went into my local branch of PC World and asked for their recommendation. The Netgear DG834G was the salesman's recommendation. It cost £50 and has been one of the better purchases I have made. My desk top PC and now my son's laptop use the same router and the wireless signal has never failed. We do not suffer from connectivity issues and trust the routers security to protect us from freeloaders and hackers. I would personally recommend this router type over those supplied by service providers....

Advantages: Diagnostics if something goes wrong

...was not lit, so although I had a broadband connection something was going wrong somewhere along the line. The netgear also has a diagnostics page which you can access on your pc and from that I saw that the speed was very slow and there was a lot of noise on the line. So this was evidence for vodafone to give BT engineers who came and found my phone line was broken at the telegraph pole. One new phone line later and everything is well. The modem is white and comes with a stand so it actually stands on end and takes up very little space. It needs to be plugged into the electric and connects with via ethernet....
