My Second Router - The Netgear DG834G
Advantages: Very Easy Installation and No Faults So Far

...I had was with my network card which needed an update, but one this was completed it was smooth sailing all the way.
Once setting up the router I would recommend configuring a WPA key. This is straightforward with the providing Netgear instructions and basically what this feature does is to let you set up a password or key in this case. With this key only the people who know the key will be able to wireless connect up to the router. This will stop free riders in neighbouring houses from stealing your internet connection.
However in relation to the above paragraph there are people out there who will not have cards capable of supporting WPA and in this case just set a simple WEP encryption. Again this is straightforward and you can set up to four different passwords, so maybe temporarily create one for any guests or others who need to...

NetGear DG834N Wireless Router
Advantages: Great stable router with great range and speed
Disadvantages: None found yet
...the maximum speeds and ranges will not be attainable by them. As it happens none of my devices have the Netgear USB adaptor so my speeds are restricted to the 54Mbs which is sufficient for my needs.
My experience of routers has been limited. This is my 4th router and only the second one that I?ve ever purchased. The other 2 came free with my broadband supplier. I replaced my old router (supplied free by BE Unlimited) because it simply couldn?t handle the number of devices I had and would reset about once every day. In contrast, the DG834N has never reset once in the 3 months that I?ve had it. It is very stable even when I have many devices connected to it. As a test I connected the following all at the same time: Xbox, PSP, Wireless Printer, WAC Music Server, 2x WACS Music Clients, laptop, desktop and all of them connected for days in some cases...

Abysmal router
Advantages: Horrid

...Since moving to a new job recently and into a brand new building we have had a whole new broadband networking system installed. The main computers are hardwired into workstations but the staff need to move around the building and each floor so require a wireless connection. The Netgear router was bought by me, being in charge of these matters, under very false advice and has been a complete waste of money. This is by far and away the worst experience I have had with any of the many routers I have used in the past! Utterly dreadful!
This cost me £59.99 from a local computer shop and the first thing that appealed to me was a review I read online and the in store advice. Another plus factor was that this, in its black and sleek design, would go well in our new office which was a black, grey combo. I should have done far more research but...
