Netgear DG834PN Wireless ADSL Modem Router

Advantages: Facilities, easy set up, lights(!), stability
Disadvantages: Some backwards compatibility issues, lack of web executable filtering

...The Netgear DG834PN is the latest version of the DG834 and combines an ADSL modem with a wireless router and 4 port switch. In plain English, this plugs in your phone socket and allows one or more PCs to share the connection via either a wired or wireless link. The modem part is ADSL2+ ready and should work with even the fastest ISP offerings out there which as at Dec 2006 are around 12mbps in the UK. The setup wizard worked flawlessly and apart from the username and password, worked everything else out for itself and had the DG834PN up and running in a couple of minutes. As with most similar devices, further configuration is done via a web interface. The wireless section supports 802.11b and 802.11g as well as Netgear's own 802.11 Super G variant offering 108Mbps. The unit features 6 internal Antennas which constantly reconfigure...

Review of NETGEAR DG834PN RangeMax ADSL Modem Wireless Router - wireless router

NetGear DG834N Wireless Router

Advantages: Great stable router with great range and speed
Disadvantages: None found yet

...supplier was easy and within a few minutes I was connected to the internet. My broadband supplier is BE Unlimited and they do not require a username or password. Obviously for those suppliers that do, you would need to enter that in the web interface. Once the basics were set up I was able to remove my Ethernet cable and place the router behind a hallway cupboard. Netgear supply the router with a small stand and insist that it is always kept upright. This is I presume to allow adequate ventilation. The router allows you to set up port forwarding and comes with a few predefined services. The ones I required were not shown in that list so I had to set mine up myself which is pretty straightforward if you know what ports the various services that you set up require. Security comes in the form of a built in firewall and WPA/WPA2 encryption...

Review of NETGEAR RangeMax Next Wireless ADSL2+ Modem Router DG834N - wireless router

Netgear WPN824 Rangemax Wireless Router

Advantages: Works Great - Looks Great
Disadvantages: Takes a while to set up

...I bought this router after months of frustration with a Belkin router. Constantly switching on and off and never staying on long enough to load a web page. The worst router i have ever used i must say. I bought this Netgear router off e bay as a re conditioned one costing about £45.00 new. This router has 10x the range of the Belkin router and gives full signal through the whole of the house. It has never once switched off or even flickered! The blue LED lights are a great little feature, just because i like blue LED lights on electronic devices. They look very quirky. It says it is easy to install..... i beg to differ. It is a little complicated to instal as it asks for lots of different numbers such as your IP and many other that i cant remember but with a little research on the internet and google i manages to find out how...

Review of NETGEAR WPN824 RangeMax Wireless Router - wireless router

Superfast Netgear 270Mb wireless ADSL2 router

Advantages: Superfast 270mbs network, looks sexy, stands up, secure
Disadvantages: Needs compatible WN311B RangeMax Next card for 270mbs

...When I first heard of this product, I really wasn't convinced. First of all Netgear's claim that it can operate at 270mb which is more than 2 times that of a standard home/office 10/100mb network and a good deal more than my old 54g (30mb+/-) router's speed, had to be tested. Secondly this was in draft N standard, meaning that it is not yet been made official or standard, so how would it perform in my own home? I just had to try it....... First thing you will need if your after the speed this router provides, is to get yourself a compatible Netgear WN311B PCI card or one of the netgear RangeMax usb sticks, as there is no way you would hope to get the full speed on another manufacturers card, you may, but why take the risk of purchasing? So with this router and a compatible card your all set. I am assuming you already have...

Review of NETGEAR RangeMax Next Wireless ADSL2+ Modem Router DG834N - wireless router

Netgear WPN824 Wireless router

Advantages: Wireless and Wired connections, easy to install
Disadvantages: Blue ring of light can be annoying, but can also be turned off!

...I have recently exchanged my Belkin router for the Netgear WPN824 as I was experiencing regular disconnections with my Belkin and found their customer support was not very good. I opted for the Netgear after various recommendations from friends and reading the reviews on ciao. The Netgear has a nice sleek, modern looking design and has a ring of Blue LEDs on the top that flash/rotate when connected wirelessly. Personally, I find these be a little annoying at night because they are quite bright but they can easily be turned off via a switch on the back. It also comes with stands so it can be put in an upright position. It has some nice green flashing lights on the front to show when each computer is connected to it and wether it has internet connection (as most routers do). This model has a wireless connection speed of 108mbps...

Review of NETGEAR WPN824 RangeMax Wireless Router - wireless router

Best router I've ever had (so far)

Advantages: Excellent range, eliminates wireless dead spots
Disadvantages: Occasionally has problems 'locking' on to a signal

...either in the office (the same room as the router) or the room beneath it, without having serious dropped connection issues. **The Router** As I was looking through the Netgear site one day, I saw an article about a new product they had just released, the DG834PN RangeMax Wireless Router, which made use of Smart MIMO (Multi-In, Multi-Out) technology (more of this later), that promised to deliver up to 10x faster coverage & speed compared to 802.11g, extend the network range by up to 400 feet and eliminate dead spots. It also boasted a speed of 108 Mbps. The DG834PN allows you to directly connect up to 4 computers using Ethernet cables and allows up to 253 users to connect wirelessly - more than enough for most home networks I would think ... As it combines a router AND a modem, it can be plugged directly into an ADSL line. It also...

NETGEAR 54G MODEM, AN AVERAGE PIECE OF EQUIMPENT

Advantages: STYLISH AND EXTREMELY EASY TO SET UP!
Disadvantages: COMES WITH RUBBISH DOWNLOAD SPEEDS!

...After having purchased four previous netgear routers i am still impressed with the seemless effort in which netgear have made there configurations. I believe after extensive searches this is a very good price for this bit of kit, some may say i am crazy but i have ADSL and DSL in my home and using two different wireless routers have found no problems yet. WGR614 highly recommended for the user of cable broadband and wanting to go wireless or use many pc's on the one connection. GOOD THINGS ABOUT THE PRODUCT: Signal strenth is very good! VERY SMALL! fits in a little chest of draws in my hall nicely LOOKS VERY STYLISH! BAD THINGS ABOUT THE PRODUCT: You get a TERRIBLE download speed with it! WHERE CAN YOU BUY IT FROM? You can buy it from shops like curry's and dixons Or you can buy it on the internet Amazon would be a good place...

Review of Netgear ADSL Modem Router

Netgear DG834N = Nice!

Advantages: HD Streaming, functionality and reliability.
Disadvantages: Draft N so not final N product

...switched ports and combines these with an integral ADSL2/2+ modem. the MIMO improves connectivity and reliability It comes with a small plastic stand and must stand upright to enable sufficient airflow for cooling i suppose. aesthetically it looks very sleek and trendy with funky green LED lights and a touch of apple style. Installation of this device was more or less exactly the same as the other netgear, same interface etc, very simple (possibly because the configurations were mosly there already from the last router, but pop the CD in and it will guide you through the settings) simply type 192.168.0.1 and enter admin for the username and password for the password and your in to fiddle with firewall settings and configuring your wireless settings. I am using this router with AOL. Before with the old wireless router i could barely get...

Review of NETGEAR RangeMax Next Wireless ADSL2+ Modem Router DG834N - wireless router

Super router

Advantages: A great way to network up your house and share the internet
Disadvantages: A pain to set up with cabling

...For a family to own a PC at home is almost second nature today. To own 2 or 3 different computers is nothing unusual. But powering all 3 with its own Modem and internet connection can prove costly and much congestion on the phone line. But now the answer to your problems is here. A router and modem all in one that can distribute internett access to all parts of the house from one box. The Netgear router. Ideal for both home and small office use, the Netgear ADSL modem router allows broadband speed internet access for up to 4 people. OK, so what is it? Basically it is a switch that splits one Internet connection between 4 computers. Imagine The router to act like a glass of milk with 4 straws coming out of it. 4 people are sharing the same glass of milk. The same as 4 people are sharing one internet connection but each one is...

Review of Netgear ADSL Modem Router

Netgear DG834G Wireless ADSL Router; perfect home solution

Advantages: Reliability and value for money.
Disadvantages: Operating temperature.

...In my opinion this broadband ADSL router is one of the best on the market considering its price. I have been using this model (I've had different versions) for a number of years and never have I known one to fail; this is especially impressive considering I never turned them off when in use. I am a very heavy internet user and when configured correctly delivers on the speed that you would expect. In terms of 'plug and play', there is very little needed to be configured on this product to start surfing away and it comes with a single quick start sheet that shows clearly how to access the configuration page through a web browser initially. For more advanced users it is very easy to configure port-forwarding (useful when playing online games or downloading via peer-to-peer to achieve the desired connection speeds). It even supports VPN...
