NetGear DG834N Wireless Router
Advantages: Great stable router with great range and speed
Disadvantages: None found yet
...the maximum speeds and ranges will not be attainable by them. As it happens none of my devices have the Netgear USB adaptor so my speeds are restricted to the 54Mbs which is sufficient for my needs.
My experience of routers has been limited. This is my 4th router and only the second one that I?ve ever purchased. The other 2 came free with my broadband supplier. I replaced my old router (supplied free by BE Unlimited) because it simply couldn?t handle the number of devices I had and would reset about once every day. In contrast, the DG834N has never reset once in the 3 months that I?ve had it. It is very stable even when I have many devices connected to it. As a test I connected the following all at the same time: Xbox, PSP, Wireless Printer, WAC Music Server, 2x WACS Music Clients, laptop, desktop and all of them connected for days in some cases...

Netgear WPN824 Rangemax Wireless Router
Advantages: Works Great - Looks Great
Disadvantages: Takes a while to set up
...to find these numbers, its easy once you know how. In all, and i have set up quite a few wireless connections, it took me about 45 mins but since then i have never had to touch it and it works absolutely great. I would never go back to Belkin now.
Consider Netgear, they look great and work even better!...

Superfast Netgear 270Mb wireless ADSL2 router
Advantages: Superfast 270mbs network, looks sexy, stands up, secure
Disadvantages: Needs compatible WN311B RangeMax Next card for 270mbs
...When I first heard of this product, I really wasn't convinced. First of all Netgear's claim that it can operate at 270mb which is more than 2 times that of a standard home/office 10/100mb network and a good deal more than my old 54g (30mb+/-) router's speed, had to be tested. Secondly this was in draft N standard, meaning that it is not yet been made official or standard, so how would it perform in my own home?
I just had to try it.......
First thing you will need if your after the speed this router provides, is to get yourself a compatible Netgear WN311B PCI card or one of the netgear RangeMax usb sticks, as there is no way you would hope to get the full speed on another manufacturers card, you may, but why take the risk of purchasing?
So with this router and a compatible card your all set. I am assuming you already have...

NETGEAR RangeMax WAP WPN802

...cost solutions out there that do pretty much everything ( if not more ) that this product does.

- Broadband (cable/DSL) router with Internet service and Ethernet port
- 2.4 GHz 802.11 b/g wireless adapter. Alternatively, an Ethernet adapter and cable for each computer
- Windows® 98, Me, NT, 2000, XP, Mac® OS, NetWare®, UNIX®, or Linux®
- Internet Explorer 5.0 or Netscape® 4.7 or higher

- NETGEAR RangeMax Wireless Access Point WPN802
- 12V, 1.0 A power adapter, localized to country of sale

Netgear WPN824 Wireless router
Advantages: Wireless and Wired connections, easy to install
Disadvantages: Blue ring of light can be annoying, but can also be turned off!
...I have recently exchanged my Belkin router for the Netgear WPN824 as I was experiencing regular disconnections with my Belkin and found their customer support was not very good.
I opted for the Netgear after various recommendations from friends and reading the reviews on ciao.
The Netgear has a nice sleek, modern looking design and has a ring of Blue LEDs on the top that flash/rotate when connected wirelessly. Personally, I find these be a little annoying at night because they are quite bright but they can easily be turned off via a switch on the back. It also comes with stands so it can be put in an upright position. It has some nice green flashing lights on the front to show when each computer is connected to it and wether it has internet connection (as most routers do).
This model has a wireless connection speed of 108mbps...

Netgear DG834N = Nice!
Advantages: HD Streaming, functionality and reliability.
Disadvantages: Draft N so not final N product
...Having used Netgear for many a year, the DG834N wireless ADSL router does its job perfectly. I bought this item to replace the aging DG834G V2 which had decided to stop connecting to the internet!
This product is fairly large and roughly the size of a hardback book (slightly taller than a DVD case) After a month of having this I have had no problems and the connection is very stable including Streaming HD content from a wireless connection on a mac to a wired Xbox 360 via connect 360. works wonderfully. We have 4 pc's (2 wireless) and a mac (wireless) which work wonderfully when all connected.
The reason for its size is the multiple aerials (transmitters) needed for MIMO (Multiple-input multiple-output operations) are hidden inside and the router has two groups of three fitted. It incorporates the standard quad of Fast Ethernet...

Adventures In Networking
Advantages: It just makes your life that much easier
Disadvantages: Its a bitch when it comes to Virgin and Vista
...burning more electricity most likely 24/7 (Twenty four hours a day, seven days a week); so if your energy conscious this is something you need to take focus on.
Thankfully at home I was equipped with the latest Argos catalogue, this meant I was able to familiarise myself with products before leaving. Some of you might be thinking why not check out the internet? To be honest not only do I often prefer to use older methods, you quite often find that online suppliers of technology related products already think you know everything. Having looked through the Catalogue I decided the best choice for me was the Netgear Rangemax Next Wireless Router, I made this choice on the basis of style and technical spec, which seemed to be higher than most. The biggest issue of all was that it offered 300 meters range coverage from the base unit; but hang...

Netgear DG834PN Wireless ADSL Modem Router
Advantages: Facilities, easy set up, lights(!), stability
Disadvantages: Some backwards compatibility issues, lack of web executable filtering
...The Netgear DG834PN is the latest version of the DG834 and combines an ADSL modem with a wireless router and 4 port switch. In plain English, this plugs in your phone socket and allows one or more PCs to share the connection via either a wired or wireless link.
The modem part is ADSL2+ ready and should work with even the fastest ISP offerings out there which as at Dec 2006 are around 12mbps in the UK. The setup wizard worked flawlessly and apart from the username and password, worked everything else out for itself and had the DG834PN up and running in a couple of minutes.
As with most similar devices, further configuration is done via a web interface. The wireless section supports 802.11b and 802.11g as well as Netgear's own 802.11 Super G variant offering 108Mbps. The unit features 6 internal Antennas which constantly reconfigure...

Geared up for the wireless age
Advantages: Easy to set up, good signal strength, pretty flashing lights...
Disadvantages: None other than price, which is pretty standard anyway...
...Having moved back into a friend's house recently, I found myself in the unusual position of living in a household with three PCs. And a lap top. And a Nintendo Wii. With all of this computing power and a mere hard wired 'net connection shared between two of the PCs, it was clear the card of change was due to be played. So what to do?
Our answer to this unavoidable and not-to-be-scoffed at question was twofold. Firstly, to call the good people at Virgin and knock the bandwidth up to ten beastly megabytes (maximum), and secondly to march down to PC World and pick up a Netgear WPN824 RangeMax Wireless Router.
Admittedly, our decision was lent significant bias by the existence of a USB receiver sitting lonely and unused in the back room, but it's not a decision I can say I have any regret for at all. If anything I'd give credit to...

My Wireless Adventure Continues
Advantages: Easy installation, good connectivity
Disadvantages: Slower speeds than expected
...I'm always being moaned at for hogging the computer so I decided to set up a network so both my girlfriend and I can access the internet from different parts of the house. In order to do this you need a wireless modem router to sit with the main PC and then for each additional PC you need to run off it you need a connection source, for a laptop computer you need a wireless network card (a USB variation is available for desktop pc's). I decided to purchase my card from Argos as I noted they had the same modem as the one I purchased. They had two different options a standard card priced £29.99 or a Rangemax card priced £49.99. As my router is was a Rangemax router I opted to get the same model card much to the disgust of my wallet.
Having already installed my router (please read my earlier review) this second part was even simpler. I...
