Netgear WPN824 Rangemax Wireless Router
Advantages: Works Great - Looks Great
Disadvantages: Takes a while to set up
...I bought this router after months of frustration with a Belkin router. Constantly switching on and off and never staying on long enough to load a web page. The worst router i have ever used i must say. I bought this Netgear router off e bay as a re conditioned one costing about £45.00 new.
This router has 10x the range of the Belkin router and gives full signal through the whole of the house. It has never once switched off or even flickered!
The blue LED lights are a great little feature, just because i like blue LED lights on electronic devices. They look very quirky.
It says it is easy to install..... i beg to differ. It is a little complicated to instal as it asks for lots of different numbers such as your IP and many other that i cant remember but with a little research on the internet and google i manages to find out how...

Netgear WPN824 Wireless router
Advantages: Wireless and Wired connections, easy to install
Disadvantages: Blue ring of light can be annoying, but can also be turned off!
...I have recently exchanged my Belkin router for the Netgear WPN824 as I was experiencing regular disconnections with my Belkin and found their customer support was not very good.
I opted for the Netgear after various recommendations from friends and reading the reviews on ciao.
The Netgear has a nice sleek, modern looking design and has a ring of Blue LEDs on the top that flash/rotate when connected wirelessly. Personally, I find these be a little annoying at night because they are quite bright but they can easily be turned off via a switch on the back. It also comes with stands so it can be put in an upright position. It has some nice green flashing lights on the front to show when each computer is connected to it and wether it has internet connection (as most routers do).
This model has a wireless connection speed of 108mbps...

NetGear DG834N Wireless Router
Advantages: Great stable router with great range and speed
Disadvantages: None found yet
...the maximum speeds and ranges will not be attainable by them. As it happens none of my devices have the Netgear USB adaptor so my speeds are restricted to the 54Mbs which is sufficient for my needs.
My experience of routers has been limited. This is my 4th router and only the second one that I?ve ever purchased. The other 2 came free with my broadband supplier. I replaced my old router (supplied free by BE Unlimited) because it simply couldn?t handle the number of devices I had and would reset about once every day. In contrast, the DG834N has never reset once in the 3 months that I?ve had it. It is very stable even when I have many devices connected to it. As a test I connected the following all at the same time: Xbox, PSP, Wireless Printer, WAC Music Server, 2x WACS Music Clients, laptop, desktop and all of them connected for days in some cases...

Review of NETGEAR RangeMax Next Wireless ADSL2+ Modem Router DG834N - wireless router

Netgear DG834G Wireless ADSL Router; perfect home solution
Advantages: Reliability and value for money.
Disadvantages: Operating temperature.
...In my opinion this broadband ADSL router is one of the best on the market considering its price.
I have been using this model (I've had different versions) for a number of years and never have I known one to fail; this is especially impressive considering I never turned them off when in use. I am a very heavy internet user and when configured correctly delivers on the speed that you would expect.
In terms of 'plug and play', there is very little needed to be configured on this product to start surfing away and it comes with a single quick start sheet that shows clearly how to access the configuration page through a web browser initially.
For more advanced users it is very easy to configure port-forwarding (useful when playing online games or downloading via peer-to-peer to achieve the desired connection speeds). It even supports VPN...

Review of NETGEAR DG834G 54 Mbps Wireless ADSL Firewall Router - wireless router
|
Netgear DG834PN Wireless ADSL Modem Router
Advantages: Facilities, easy set up, lights(!), stability
Disadvantages: Some backwards compatibility issues, lack of web executable filtering
...The Netgear DG834PN is the latest version of the DG834 and combines an ADSL modem with a wireless router and 4 port switch. In plain English, this plugs in your phone socket and allows one or more PCs to share the connection via either a wired or wireless link.
The modem part is ADSL2+ ready and should work with even the fastest ISP offerings out there which as at Dec 2006 are around 12mbps in the UK. The setup wizard worked flawlessly and apart from the username and password, worked everything else out for itself and had the DG834PN up and running in a couple of minutes.
As with most similar devices, further configuration is done via a web interface. The wireless section supports 802.11b and 802.11g as well as Netgear's own 802.11 Super G variant offering 108Mbps. The unit features 6 internal Antennas which constantly reconfigure...

Superfast Netgear 270Mb wireless ADSL2 router
Advantages: Superfast 270mbs network, looks sexy, stands up, secure
Disadvantages: Needs compatible WN311B RangeMax Next card for 270mbs
...When I first heard of this product, I really wasn't convinced. First of all Netgear's claim that it can operate at 270mb which is more than 2 times that of a standard home/office 10/100mb network and a good deal more than my old 54g (30mb+/-) router's speed, had to be tested. Secondly this was in draft N standard, meaning that it is not yet been made official or standard, so how would it perform in my own home?
I just had to try it.......
First thing you will need if your after the speed this router provides, is to get yourself a compatible Netgear WN311B PCI card or one of the netgear RangeMax usb sticks, as there is no way you would hope to get the full speed on another manufacturers card, you may, but why take the risk of purchasing?
So with this router and a compatible card your all set. I am assuming you already have...

Netgear DGN200 Wireless Router what a pain
Advantages: good when finally installed
Disadvantages: hard to install
...I admit my computer knowledge is limited but I was led to believe this was an easy product to install on my home computer. I thought the instructions seemed easy to follow but when steps didn't go to plan I became stuck and confused.
Next steps I phoned thecustomer helpline and was greeted with questions I didn't know the answer to and probally wouldn't have unless I had a degree in computing.
All I can say is what a waste of my time trying to set this router up.
I resulted in asking a good friend that works within the computer industry to come and help install the router. They said this wasn't an uncommon problem but does need improvement for everyday people to use.
Now it is finally installed properly I have a working home network and haven't come across too many problems....

Top of the range wireless router
Advantages: Massive wireless range
Disadvantages: -
...I live in a large victorian house with 7 other students. We decided to have wireless internet this year, and I must say, this router has done us proud.
We bought ours from a local computer shop for £69.99.
Our house is 3 floors, and even on the top floor the signal strength and quality is above 75%. I would say that the signal would still be pretty strong if we had a 4th floor.
We have had no problems with it at all.
It comes with a CD which is very easy to install. You can have the internet up and running in your house/office within a matter of minutes.
Upon installtion, you can choose a password to protect your network. We have had no problems from people in our road interfering with our signal.
Absolutely awesome product!

Geared up for the wireless age
Advantages: Easy to set up, good signal strength, pretty flashing lights...
Disadvantages: None other than price, which is pretty standard anyway...
...Having moved back into a friend's house recently, I found myself in the unusual position of living in a household with three PCs. And a lap top. And a Nintendo Wii. With all of this computing power and a mere hard wired 'net connection shared between two of the PCs, it was clear the card of change was due to be played. So what to do?
Our answer to this unavoidable and not-to-be-scoffed at question was twofold. Firstly, to call the good people at Virgin and knock the bandwidth up to ten beastly megabytes (maximum), and secondly to march down to PC World and pick up a Netgear WPN824 RangeMax Wireless Router.
Admittedly, our decision was lent significant bias by the existence of a USB receiver sitting lonely and unused in the back room, but it's not a decision I can say I have any regret for at all. If anything I'd give credit to...

I've Gone Wireless
Advantages: Ease of use and installation
Disadvantages: Slower than expected connection to network cards.
...input a long 25 minute key number as well as a password and user ID. In medium security all you need to remember or enter is your network password which must consist of letters and numbers and needs to be 14 digits in length.
One final piece of information worth pointing out is that whether you go wired or wireless you can use the router to access all your other PC's. You can move files around from one PC to the other and access facilities on the other PC's. In order to write this review using a spellchecker option I installed Microsoft office onto this PC by accessing my other PC, clever stuff huh?
The Netgear Rangemax 240 wireless router is available from Argos at the price of £99.99. The Network cards you require for each PC you need to run off the modem (with the exception of the main use PC which simply plugs into the router, no...
