NetGear DG834N Wireless Router
Advantages: Great stable router with great range and speed
Disadvantages: None found yet
...the maximum speeds and ranges will not be attainable by them. As it happens none of my devices have the Netgear USB adaptor so my speeds are restricted to the 54Mbs which is sufficient for my needs.
My experience of routers has been limited. This is my 4th router and only the second one that I?ve ever purchased. The other 2 came free with my broadband supplier. I replaced my old router (supplied free by BE Unlimited) because it simply couldn?t handle the number of devices I had and would reset about once every day. In contrast, the DG834N has never reset once in the 3 months that I?ve had it. It is very stable even when I have many devices connected to it. As a test I connected the following all at the same time: Xbox, PSP, Wireless Printer, WAC Music Server, 2x WACS Music Clients, laptop, desktop and all of them connected for days in some cases...

Netgear DG834G Wireless ADSL Router; perfect home solution
Advantages: Reliability and value for money.
Disadvantages: Operating temperature.
...In my opinion this broadband ADSL router is one of the best on the market considering its price.
I have been using this model (I've had different versions) for a number of years and never have I known one to fail; this is especially impressive considering I never turned them off when in use. I am a very heavy internet user and when configured correctly delivers on the speed that you would expect.
In terms of 'plug and play', there is very little needed to be configured on this product to start surfing away and it comes with a single quick start sheet that shows clearly how to access the configuration page through a web browser initially.
For more advanced users it is very easy to configure port-forwarding (useful when playing online games or downloading via peer-to-peer to achieve the desired connection speeds). It even supports VPN...

Netgear DG834PN Wireless ADSL Modem Router
Advantages: Facilities, easy set up, lights(!), stability
Disadvantages: Some backwards compatibility issues, lack of web executable filtering
...The Netgear DG834PN is the latest version of the DG834 and combines an ADSL modem with a wireless router and 4 port switch. In plain English, this plugs in your phone socket and allows one or more PCs to share the connection via either a wired or wireless link.
The modem part is ADSL2+ ready and should work with even the fastest ISP offerings out there which as at Dec 2006 are around 12mbps in the UK. The setup wizard worked flawlessly and apart from the username and password, worked everything else out for itself and had the DG834PN up and running in a couple of minutes.
As with most similar devices, further configuration is done via a web interface. The wireless section supports 802.11b and 802.11g as well as Netgear's own 802.11 Super G variant offering 108Mbps. The unit features 6 internal Antennas which constantly reconfigure...

Netgear DG834G
Advantages: Great Signal Strength, Multiuse, Easy To Use
Disadvantages: Installation
...Ahhh the netgear DG834G, my first router and still my current router! I have had this router for over 2 years now and it works fine still! The hardest part ever whilst using it was the installation! We actually had to ask a computer programmer, our neighbour, to come round and install it for us! It was that confusing! Depending on where it is located, it gives different signal strenghts, sometimes i dont get signal in my bedroom; but if i move the router around a little bit i get signal! But this can also be due to electronic interference! The connection speed is great with a maximum speed of 54 Megabytes Per Second, which is a great speed for my needs! It connects all the phones, playstations and laptops in our house without trouble so it is good enough for me!!! So if you are a first time router purchaser, this one is great!!...

Netgear DG834G v2 - lovely piece of kit
Advantages: stylish, robust, wide range of features, WiFi and wired connectivity
Disadvantages: drops connection during lightning storms, manual slim on advanced features
...wirelessly, and it works great. The newer laptops I have also link up great with their inbuilt WiFi connectivity.
The Netgear DG834G also allows you to setup wireless security on it (great if you don't want your next door neighbour freeloading on your broadband connection). This can be tricky to set up at first - mainly because you need to also set up the password on every PC connecting wirelessly to the router - once you've done one, the rest should be easy.
One of the best things about it is that incorporates the modem, router, and a firewall all in one box. If you need to connect to work from home - this router is fantastic, because it also implements VPN pass-through, which means you can authenticate to your workplace (if you have a company laptop and connect up from home normally). Admittedly, this probably doesn't affect a large...

Netgear DG834G
Advantages: Secure, fast, etc
Disadvantages: Difficult to install
...I just had one laptop in my house and decided to go wireless so I could move it about easier. This router is great. 54 Mbps is loads more than I need. Its small and looks good and has a really good range. you can connect up to 4 devices and it comes with the latest security options to make it extra secure including the latest, WPA2/PSK
I've never setup a router before and it was no easy task. The instructions were easy but halfway through the installation process it started to give me error messages. I only managed to get in installed after several attempts. However since then it has been excellent and is really easy to use.
I would definatly recommend it but for anyone installing any wireless router it's not as easy as the manual says....

Netgear DG834GT, top wireless router
Advantages: fast, easy to set up, good signal strength
Disadvantages: slightly more expensive
...This was my first wireless router and i have to say i found it all a bit confusing with all the different types of router out there ones with modems ones without, adsl, cable etc etc.
This router is for people who get their internet access through their phoneline and not from telewest or ntl.
It has a built in modem and comes with a usb wireless adaptor so it has everything you need.
Setting the router up was so suprisingly simple after all of the confusion of trying to find the right type. You plug phone cable from your phone line into the back of the router and then the power cable and thats it.
My laptop already had a built in wireless card so i didn't need to touch that, it dected my router right away and i just followed the simple step my step instructions to set it up.
I use the usb wireless adaptor that came...

Netgear DG834N = Nice!
Advantages: HD Streaming, functionality and reliability.
Disadvantages: Draft N so not final N product
...Having used Netgear for many a year, the DG834N wireless ADSL router does its job perfectly. I bought this item to replace the aging DG834G V2 which had decided to stop connecting to the internet!
This product is fairly large and roughly the size of a hardback book (slightly taller than a DVD case) After a month of having this I have had no problems and the connection is very stable including Streaming HD content from a wireless connection on a mac to a wired Xbox 360 via connect 360. works wonderfully. We have 4 pc's (2 wireless) and a mac (wireless) which work wonderfully when all connected.
The reason for its size is the multiple aerials (transmitters) needed for MIMO (Multiple-input multiple-output operations) are hidden inside and the router has two groups of three fitted. It incorporates the standard quad of Fast Ethernet...

I`LL GET MY KICKS ? ON ROUTER £66
Advantages: Ultra simple to set up, Compact slim design
Disadvantages: Pitiful length of Ethernet cable supplied
...Or rather not quite £66, more like £61.99 ? but then I wouldn?t have been able to pun on the famous Rolling Stones track in the title and that would have been an opportunity missed! So what is a router? And why am I writing a review about one? Well, a router is used when you want to share an internet connection between two or more computers, and I find myself writing about the Netgear ADSL Firewall Router DG834 thanks to my Sister asking me to set up a network on her two computers so that her AOL broadband connection could be shared. Of course therein lay the first issue, AOL is not like other ISP`s in that it has up to now been impossible to sign on with more than one screen-name, but thanks to AOL finally embracing the whole Networking ethos and offering support to a handful of routers there was to be no more barriers in spreading...
