Reviews of netgear wg511 54 mbps wireless pc card
Can Netgear do any wrong
Review of Netgear WG511T Super-G Wireless PC Card by
christiandransfield
Advantages: Easy setup. Very reliable
Disadvantages: Sticks out from laptop and could easily be broken
...After buying the Netgear DG834G wireless router I needed to replace my laptop's broken internal wireless card with an external card and went for the Netgear products. At £40 it was quite expensive. However, for a future proof 108mbps card, you're not going to need to change the card in a long time. Installation was even more simple than for the DG834G, which was hardly taxing. After installing the software supplied on the cd, the card automatically found and connected to the router's network. The signal strength is very high when quite far from the router. In my bedroom (router downstairs) I can get a signal strength of around 60% with two 3ft walls in the way!
This card is yet another success story for Netgear who it seems would need to try hard not to produce a high quality, reliable product.
If you need a wireless card, you need one...

...in the slot provided in the laptop. I am not sure if there is a similar slot available in a PC and how it works on a PC. I have a Sony Viao Laptop with a built slot for the Wireless Card. So I just had to slip it into the slot. There is also a quick installation guide in the CD which is again a PDF file.

Is bandwidth important to you?
Review of Netgear WG511U Double 108 Mbps Wireless PC Card by
jericbilo74
Advantages: low maintenance, good distance
Disadvantages: has trouble through concrete
...When I moved to a city because of work I was suddenly without internet connection. I would've just gotten a new one but I was only gonna be away for 6 months and had to stay at a company apartment. The apartment had was wireless enabled but my computer was too old and a wireless network card wasn't built in. I had to go shopping.
At the time I was debating whether I should get a USB wireless network card since this seems like the direction most computers where heading. I had the notion that PC Cards where a thing of the past and new laptop's where headed towards having them installed internally.
In the shops and online, I noticed that PC cards where still widely available and the PC cards that I found provided a lot more bandwidth than their USB counterparts. Most cards were rated at 54Mbps while this card was rated at 108Mbps...

Couldnt be without it!
Review of NETGEAR DG834G 54 Mbps Wireless ADSL Firewall Router - wireless router by

Advantages: Simple to Set-up, Easy to Maintain, Smart Design
Disadvantages: None
...between PC and Laptop, then this Router solves that problem. The biggest feature is based on the Wireless Standard 802.11g. The Standard 802.11g is the strongest Wireless Standard available at the moment. This is a Signal Strength that has wide coverage. It runs at a speed of 54Mbps, and can cover a wide Area of your Home / Office.
If you laptop is 'Wireless Enabled' you can configure the router to allow the Laptop to connect to the internet. If it is not, cards are available for this. This is feature allows you to browse the internet freely, without any restriction by wires etc. You also have not got to stay in the same Area. Bear in mind with this, the further you move away, the weaker the signal gets. However, you can get a very Strong and Reliable Connection.
CONTROL PANEL
The Router has a dedicated address of http://192.168.0.1, which...

Review of NETGEAR DG834G 54 Mbps Wireless ADSL Firewall Router - wireless router by
vicke_p
Advantages: No problems with connection
Disadvantages: None
...I used modems supplied my my internet service provider and experienced problems with connectivity and drop out. In the end I got so sick of phoning the ISPs to report problems to be given the same twaddle (updating drivers etc.) that I went into my local branch of PC World and asked for their recommendation. The Netgear DG834G was the salesman's recommendation. It cost £50 and has been one of the better purchases I have made. My desk top PC and now my son's laptop use the same router and the wireless signal has never failed. We do not suffer from connectivity issues and trust the routers security to protect us from freeloaders and hackers. I would personally recommend this router type over those supplied by service providers....

Netgear WGR614 54 Mbps Wireless Router
Review of NETGEAR WGR614 54 Mbps Wireless Router - wireless router by
OllyBacon
Advantages: Easy setup, great customer support, good price
Disadvantages: None
...In short: Excellent router, easy to set up and good support from Netgear.
I bought this modem router from Ebay to set up a wireless home network. Depsite paying AOL money each month and seeing new customers getting this router for free we were told that we would still have to purchase it separately. As this was one of the AOL compatible routers I plumped for it due to Netgear's good name.
The router was installed easyily and using AOL software from their site my main computer was up and running using an ethernet cable. We did have a couple of problems setting up our two laptops to work wirelessly but one short call to Netgear and that was all sorted out. If you don't have laptops with built in wireless capability I would recommend getting the compatible wireless adapters from Netgear, these also are installed very easily. Even though...

Review of Netgear WG311 54 Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter by
plain
Advantages: NONE!
Disadvantages: EVERYTHING! PC crashes, won't connect, poor range, crap software, crap product!
...Bought a NETGEAR Wireless-G Modem Router (DG834G), set-up was easy (once I remembered to disable my previous modem in Device Manager). My wifes laptop wireless connection took seconds to set-up & conect to the modem. Everthing was going really well ... untill, I TRIED TO SET-UP & INSTALL A NETGEAR WG311 PCI ADAPTER ON A THIRD PC, WHAT AN ABSOLUTE TOTAL & UTTER NIGHTMARE! Several knowledgable people, dozens of PC crashes, dozens of 'System Restores, dozens of times going over & over the instructed process step-by-step from scratch (on a new & 'System Restored PC each time) LATER! This PCI adapter could not stay connected .... even when the NETGEAR modem was set-up 4 inches away! SO LOOK ELSEWHERE FOR A WIRELESS PCI ADAPTER! This is just a waste of money & time!...

Review of Linksys Wireless-G PCI Adapter WMP54G by
china_wolf
Advantages: Easy to install, it's inside your PC so is nicely hidden!
Disadvantages: Slow, crap range, I can send more data faster on foot
....
The speed of the card was also a massive let-down of epic proportions. The 11Mbps (802.11b) standard gives us about 500K to just under 1MB transfer speed. This card that boasts u pto 54Mbps gives me the fastest rate of 1.2MB per second. Wow. That is such a massive leap from the 11Mbps network... I've seen other 54Mbps wireless networks trounce 1.2MB per second easily, so I have to say that if you want speed... AVOID!
In fact, if you want decent speed with a good range, as well as little hassle in setting up a wireless network... do not buy this crap card! I can write down want I want to send on a piece of card and chuck it at my mate quicker and further than sending it via Linksys' wireless network. NETGEAR, BELKIN or BUFFALO!...

PlayStation®2 Network Adaptor (£22.99)
Review of Sony Network adapter by
Oimi
Advantages: Enables online gaming experience
Disadvantages: Not needed in latest (slimline) PSTwo
...a router, consider a Netgear DG834GT. Before trying to connect to the internet with the Playstation 2, you will need to make sure that your computer and/or router is able to connect to the Internet first.
So, in summary, this product requires a Broadband connection, an 8MB PlayStation®2 memory card, DSL filters, a network cable, and a RJ-45 Ethernet Card (as well as a PS2 Ethernet adapter)
A consideration to make is whether you want wireless networking.
If you want to play online with your PlayStation®2 (whilst being anywhere in the house, without being in close proximity to the PC), you should consider purchasing a Netgear WGE111 54mbps Wireless Game Adapter.
The items I purchased to get this product to work with my PlayStation®2 are listed below.
Just for reference, I purchased a Netgear DG834GT Integrated ADSL Modem and 108Mbps 802.11g...
