Linksys's Lightning fast wireless router
Advantages: Fast speeds, Reliable, Stylish
Disadvantages: I had wireless problems, Gets a bit warm, no restart router option in config
...the wireless connection despite the signal strength being excellent. This resulted in a lot of whinging from my parents and a lot of head scratching by myself. I've tried several USB dongles to try to resolve this problem to no avail. These include a Netgear Wireless N RangeMax USB dongle, a Linksys Wireless N USB dongle and even a Negear PCI 54G wireless card.
The machines are only about 7 metres from the router with just one wall with a window so not sure why. Interference en-route? Switching to a Belkin wireless router resolved the problem so I?m suspecting the Belkin performs better than the Linksys, which is a shame for the Linksys.
On a brighter note, the wireless connection on my PC when I was using the Linksys, using a Linksys Wireless N USB dongle, is solid. Reliability is excellent and only times I've lost the connection was...

Netgear DG834G Wireless ADSL Router; perfect home solution
Advantages: Reliability and value for money.
Disadvantages: Operating temperature.
...In my opinion this broadband ADSL router is one of the best on the market considering its price.
I have been using this model (I've had different versions) for a number of years and never have I known one to fail; this is especially impressive considering I never turned them off when in use. I am a very heavy internet user and when configured correctly delivers on the speed that you would expect.
In terms of 'plug and play', there is very little needed to be configured on this product to start surfing away and it comes with a single quick start sheet that shows clearly how to access the configuration page through a web browser initially.
For more advanced users it is very easy to configure port-forwarding (useful when playing online games or downloading via peer-to-peer to achieve the desired connection speeds). It even supports VPN...

NetGear DG834N Wireless Router
Advantages: Great stable router with great range and speed
Disadvantages: None found yet
...the maximum speeds and ranges will not be attainable by them. As it happens none of my devices have the Netgear USB adaptor so my speeds are restricted to the 54Mbs which is sufficient for my needs.
My experience of routers has been limited. This is my 4th router and only the second one that I?ve ever purchased. The other 2 came free with my broadband supplier. I replaced my old router (supplied free by BE Unlimited) because it simply couldn?t handle the number of devices I had and would reset about once every day. In contrast, the DG834N has never reset once in the 3 months that I?ve had it. It is very stable even when I have many devices connected to it. As a test I connected the following all at the same time: Xbox, PSP, Wireless Printer, WAC Music Server, 2x WACS Music Clients, laptop, desktop and all of them connected for days in some cases...

Netgear WPN824 Wireless router
Advantages: Wireless and Wired connections, easy to install
Disadvantages: Blue ring of light can be annoying, but can also be turned off!
...I have recently exchanged my Belkin router for the Netgear WPN824 as I was experiencing regular disconnections with my Belkin and found their customer support was not very good.
I opted for the Netgear after various recommendations from friends and reading the reviews on ciao.
The Netgear has a nice sleek, modern looking design and has a ring of Blue LEDs on the top that flash/rotate when connected wirelessly. Personally, I find these be a little annoying at night because they are quite bright but they can easily be turned off via a switch on the back. It also comes with stands so it can be put in an upright position. It has some nice green flashing lights on the front to show when each computer is connected to it and wether it has internet connection (as most routers do).
This model has a wireless connection speed of 108mbps...

The rather good Netgear DG834GT Router
Advantages: It is wireless
Disadvantages: none
...I got this router free when I signed up to Sky Broadband. They advertise it as wireless but when I received the router all I got to connect it up to my PC with was an Ethernet cable. I had to buy a wireless adapter seperately to be able to connect to the internet wirelessly.
IN THE BOX
~~~~~~~~~~
When I opened the box the first thing I saw was the router itself. You also get the Ethernet cable I mentioned earlier, three micro-filters, a phone cable, the power adapter, a stand to stand the router up with, and the set up disc.
SET-UP
~~~~~~~
I found it very easy to set up the router. All I did was insert the set-up disc into my PC and follow the on screen instructions. It took me no more than ten minutes to do. The disc shows you where all the cables have to go, then it installs the required software on to your computer...

Netgear DGN200 Wireless Router what a pain
Advantages: good when finally installed
Disadvantages: hard to install
...I admit my computer knowledge is limited but I was led to believe this was an easy product to install on my home computer. I thought the instructions seemed easy to follow but when steps didn't go to plan I became stuck and confused.
Next steps I phoned thecustomer helpline and was greeted with questions I didn't know the answer to and probally wouldn't have unless I had a degree in computing.
All I can say is what a waste of my time trying to set this router up.
I resulted in asking a good friend that works within the computer industry to come and help install the router. They said this wasn't an uncommon problem but does need improvement for everyday people to use.
Now it is finally installed properly I have a working home network and haven't come across too many problems....

Netgear
Advantages: No problems with connection
Disadvantages: None
...I used modems supplied my my internet service provider and experienced problems with connectivity and drop out. In the end I got so sick of phoning the ISPs to report problems to be given the same twaddle (updating drivers etc.) that I went into my local branch of PC World and asked for their recommendation. The Netgear DG834G was the salesman's recommendation. It cost £50 and has been one of the better purchases I have made. My desk top PC and now my son's laptop use the same router and the wireless signal has never failed. We do not suffer from connectivity issues and trust the routers security to protect us from freeloaders and hackers. I would personally recommend this router type over those supplied by service providers....

Netgear gd834gt router - recommended
Advantages: Good reliable wireless adsl router
Disadvantages: None so far...
...The dg834gt is an adsl modem router, capable of connecting you to your chosen ISP and providing an additional level of security to a home network of desktops connected via network cables, or laptops connected via wireless.
Please note: This is not a 'how to configure / secure your router' guide, but a review of the dg834gt features.
Pro's
I think the dg834gt has several points that I look for in an adsl router,
Easy config - Like many others, the router has an admin screen that is accessed via a web browser to configure it for connecting to your ISP. However I feel some are definitely better than others (from my experience Belkin was NOT so good). The Netgear admin screen is good - easy to navigate, well laid out, you can make changes to settings and the changes take effect with little or no delay.
Good range...

Netgear WGR614 54 Mbps Wireless Router
Advantages: Easy setup, great customer support, good price
Disadvantages: None
...In short: Excellent router, easy to set up and good support from Netgear.
I bought this modem router from Ebay to set up a wireless home network. Depsite paying AOL money each month and seeing new customers getting this router for free we were told that we would still have to purchase it separately. As this was one of the AOL compatible routers I plumped for it due to Netgear's good name.
The router was installed easyily and using AOL software from their site my main computer was up and running using an ethernet cable. We did have a couple of problems setting up our two laptops to work wirelessly but one short call to Netgear and that was all sorted out. If you don't have laptops with built in wireless capability I would recommend getting the compatible wireless adapters from Netgear, these also are installed very easily. Even...

Netgear DG834GT, top wireless router
Advantages: fast, easy to set up, good signal strength
Disadvantages: slightly more expensive
...This was my first wireless router and i have to say i found it all a bit confusing with all the different types of router out there ones with modems ones without, adsl, cable etc etc.
This router is for people who get their internet access through their phoneline and not from telewest or ntl.
It has a built in modem and comes with a usb wireless adaptor so it has everything you need.
Setting the router up was so suprisingly simple after all of the confusion of trying to find the right type. You plug phone cable from your phone line into the back of the router and then the power cable and thats it.
My laptop already had a built in wireless card so i didn't need to touch that, it dected my router right away and i just followed the simple step my step instructions to set it up.
I use the usb wireless adaptor that came...
