A Reintroduction to Glen Campbell

Advantages: Classic songs sung beautifully, great instrumentalists and orchestra
Disadvantages: For me there really are none!

...Introduction I grew up listening to the music of Glen Campbell as my father was a huge fan and had many of his albums back in the 60s and early 70s. At that time, Campbell was at the peak of his success as a solo singer. Born in Arkansas in 1936, Campbell began his musical career as a session guitarist and singer, appearing on many classic recordings of the era, including "Tequila" by the Champs and "You've Lost That Loving Feelin'" by the Righteous Brothers. He toured with the Beach Boys and also played on "Pet Sounds". My father frequently used to rave to me about how good a guitar player Campbell was when I was younger. Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54

Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.

Unable to afford a Blu-Ray player my sister and I bought the Panasonic DVD-S54 to match our parents brand new Panasonic TX-32LZD80 LCD television as their Christmas 2008 present. Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied. On Christmas day when opened we found a relatively small box tightly packed with the player in polystyrene packaging. Dark Satanic Depths (Scar Night: Deepgate Codex - Alan Campbell)

Advantages: compelling, moody, imaginative, well written
Disadvantages: too long

...only very vaguely hinted: I suspect there is room for that in the later volumes of the Deepgate Codex. Campbell takes his idea to its logical conclusion by showing how core beliefs of a culture would shape the way it conducted all kinds of tasks, from technology to war. Some of it is pretty stomach churning, but not particularly gratuitous. The reader winces, but accepts that that's how things must be in that city of chains. I don't like horror, and thus I didn't like the moments when the "dark fantasy" mode risked turning into the horror, but overall it stayed this side of the genre divide. There is action aplenty in The Scar Night, though the story starts to unfold rather slowly - the first 100 or so pages, in fact the whole first section (entitled, quite meaningfully, Lies) sets the scene. It's long, but enough mysteries...

...The media is at constant war with politicians, and vice versa, blurring the actual message the MPs and Minster's want to get across, 24 hour news and the World Wide Web meaning politicians need to employ just as many spin doctors and communications people as the press to control that information flow. Politicians get a bad wrap from that unfortunate but all too modern state of affair, mainly because they are reduced to scripted often insular monotone replies because anything they say may be taking out of context. Once they are quoted, fairly or not, its up on the newswire and the news agenda is set for the day. The politicians can, of course, manipulate that process, the theme of our movie, clearly based on real events, Peter Capaldis manic Alistair Campbell character cruel but uncomfortably fair, so say those who know. ...investigating a little further it appears that this book is a sequel to Karen Campbell's first novel The Twilight Time. It did not spoil my enjoyment that I had not read the other book first but it has made me more than a little curious about what may have happened previously to the characters I got to know so well. ...A charming but problematic romantic comedy, Three to Tango wobbles between sublime farce and ridiculous contrivance in its detailing of the romantic triangle between an architect (Matthew Perry), a rich businessman (Dylan McDermott), and the businessman's mistress (Neve Campbell). ...My recent quest for FREE DVD hire I visited and many DVD web sites that offered a free trial. Now call me tight (no that wasn?t an invite), but I like bargains and freebies and am not ashamed to say so. My quest took me to enough sites to hire DVDs for about four months so far (with plenty to come too). My latest free DVD site also happens to be the best I have tried for several reasons (see rest of op); the site in question is Blockbuster.co.uk. Other sites that I have had free rentals from and then cancelled have all been similar, two weeks free trial with two DVD?s per time ? which in effect gives you about four free DVD?s.
