A hotel in the heart of New York City

Advantages: Great Location, Clean and Friendly Staff
Disadvantages: Views from hotel itself not great, no free wi fi

...My boyfriend turned 30 a few weeks ago and for his present I booked us a trip to New York and the Wellington Hotel is where I picked for us to stay due to its central location in Manhattan. Last Wednesday we flew out to NYC and checked into the Wellington. If you didn't know already this is where part of the Borat film was made, the main scene being where he tries to unpack his things in the lift thinking its his room and so many Borat jokes ensued in the elevators during our stay. The location of the hotel is amazing, its a 1 minute walk from Carnegie Hall, 2 minutes from Central Park and 5 minutes from Times Square and is located on the corner of 55th Street and 7th Avenue. The placement of the hotel was my favourite thing about it as it was just so easy to walk to some of the city's best attractions from here. When we checked in...

Fab priced hotel in the thick of New York City!

Advantages: Cheap, right by Times Square, friendly staff
Disadvantages: Rooms may be too small for some fussy travellers!

...When I was booking a holiday for my partner and I to go to New York, I did a lot of research about hotels, locations, sight-seeing spots etc and then tried to find the best one out of a huge list I made. I didn't want to pay a lot for the hotel because I knew we wouldn't be in it much, and when I saw the Best Western name, I thought it would be a good idea to stick with what I know! So I booked 4 nights in this hotel in December 2005, my second trip to the fantastic NYC. We easily got a transfer from the airport, and gave the driver the address which I had printed out before we left the UK. We speedily set off into the manic NYC traffic in our little yellow cab, and were there within about 1 hour, not bad considering the traffic! The hotel had a nice frontage, it was all gold, had loads of Christmas lights and little Christmas trees...

Bentley Hotel - New York New York!!!!

Advantages: Clean, nice rooms - amazing views from roof top balcony
Disadvantages: 24 Hour coffee bar was actually a vending machine!!

...Park, where you can almost imagine you are no longer in a built up metropolitan city. We took a helicopter ride around the city while there and Central Park looks very very strange from the air. Like a large slab of green in the middle of a grey island full of buildings. Amazing. From our room we had a view of The Queensboro Bridge. It is quite amazing at night when all the lights are on. Incidentally this is the bridge they used in Spiderman, where he saves the people in the cable car. We watched Spiderman after we?d been to New York and it was instantly recognisable. There is a large area at the front of the hotel where your cab can pull up out of the way of the main traffic. This where we arrived and then the luggage was carried in for us. **OVERALL OPINION** Overall we would recommend this hotel for anyone travelling to New...

Edison Hotel, New York City (MY PARADISE)

Advantages: 5* Rooms,Dining,Service..
Disadvantages: None at all To Be Honest.

...The Edison Hotel, New York City: Built in 1931 This glorious hotel is located at 228 West 47th Street. Here I will write up a short review upon my experience in the hotel last year. Location: as previously mentioned situated in one of the most dynamic sections of New York City 228 West 47th Street, Directly in the middle of New York which means little walking distance to wherever you may want to venture. Rooms: Depending on what type of accomodation you are looking for, the Edison will be sure offer it to you. Personally our room was slightly better than standard due to us being on a work trip. Anyway we had two people per room, a king sized bed each, a mini fridge which was stocked up 2 times a day, lovely carpeted floors, TV (Full channel), Chairs, Lamps, Pictures, and best of all a laptop and access to the internet (Provided...

Hudson Hotel, New York

Advantages: Great bars, good standard of customer care
Disadvantages: Quite expensive

...My husband and I stayed a the Hudson during September 2008, on my first trip to the states. We were away for 2 weeks, of which 5 nights were spent at the Hudson. This meant that we could compare this hotel to several others in the US, including one other in New York. Generally, the Hudson came out of this very well! We booked the Hudson online, through hotels.com, a procedure which was nice and simple and allowed us to look at several different hotels before making our choice. We were initially attracted to the Hudson because of it's easily accessible location and because the pictures we found on the internet made it look unlike anywhere we had stayed before! The hotel is extremely image conscious, the website gave lots of information about the designer (Philippe Starck), loads of pictures and presented the hotel as a "cool...

Edison hotel New York

Advantages: Rooms are spacious, clean, fresh and everyone is so friendly.
Disadvantages: No disadvantges, loved this place.

...I visited this hotel with my school in February 2007 and there was a group of 40 with 5 teachers. The group included boys and girls, there were very welcoming when we arrived after a long flight from England and getting up a 4.30. They allowed us up to our rooms, which where very spacious and comfortable. They had big double beds, which could have easily have fitted three people in. The bathroom was spacious and clean with lovley hot water for when we took a shower in the morning and after a long weary day. They provided us with big white fluffy towels to use after our bath and shower and layed out complimenatry gifts for us to use. The hotel is just round the corner from Times Square which is buzzing all the time with the bright lights. I recommend you visit this hotel, with its friendly staff and comfortable beds....

The Wellington The Hotel That Never Sleeps

Advantages: good convinient location, exceptionally clean, very good price
Disadvantages: A bit dated, very busy, staff are not always available

...Most people know New York City as the city that never sleeps or the big apple. Whatever you name New York City it is the largest city in America and has much to offer visitors all around the world. Traveling to New York gave me the opportunity to explore this wonderful City. There is so much to do and see that I was never bored. Travelling through New York is easy as most places are within walking distance and if not you can get a tube or bus. There are many hotels to choose from and finding the right one can be a difficult choice. We chose The Wellington Hotel. I thought it was the right decision when I booked it and as soon as I saw the hotel I knew I had made the right decision. The outside of the hotel looks impressive and you can see the lights from Times Square which is really cosy and inviting. Walking through the reception...

New York City

Advantages: A lot to see & do, has something to offer for everyone
Disadvantages: Too much to see and do, can be exhausting, expensive hotels

...A short summary This trip report will focus on the trip that my wife Nikki and I took to NYC in the period from July 5th - 11th 2004. I hope that this trip report can be of some use to other first time visitors to New York City. Please get in touch if you have any questions or comments. If you want to see my pictures from NYC please check out my homepage http://gardkarlsen.com. Prelude We have been talking about visiting NYC for many years now and we finally got a chance to see it when we took a family trip to the USA. We decided to first go to my sister in Ohio and spend a few days there. After this we would go to NYC and then go home to Norway from there. Like most others we felt that we knew the city a bit even if we hadn't been there before. After all, the city is portrayed in so many movies and TV series, it sort...

The Wellington Hotel

Advantages: Location, freindly helpful staff
Disadvantages: bit tired/dated

...We are just back from 4 nights in The Wellington Hotel. We booked it back in Jan'07 thru an online hotel booking site (I may have mentioned it in other reviews) We also booked flights directly with BA thru their website. We had stayed in NewYork about 2 years ago in a YMCA in the upper westside. However as my oldies were coming with us we had to book a hotel. We booked a suite at The Wellington for around £780 for 4 adults for 4 nights and the BA flights from ABZ cost around £1,200 for the 4 of us. We arrived at JFK around 1600hrs and after clearing immigration and a lenghty taxi journey we arrived at the hotel about 1800hrs. The hotel looked impressive from outside, the lights of Times Square were visable from the front door. The reception area is very nice, a huge chandalier greets you. The reception desk is small and quite...

Diamond review  A Hotel for the New Century

Advantages: The view, and erm everything else, but the view mainly!
Disadvantages: Too many mirrorerd walls - it's a hazard!

...Who wouldn?t enjoy a few days wandering around New York, taking in the sights and sounds of one of the most famous places on earth? Central Park, the Empire State and Chrysler Buildings?Broadway, Times Square and the hustle and bustle of lower Manhattan? I have been to New York many times on business over the years but had never really spent more than a few hours of free time getting to know the place so when my husband suggested we have a long weekend there recently I bit his arm off! Mind you, those business trips had served me well because I knew quite a few of the central hotels and also knew how poor value they can be: how basic and uninteresting and how noisy many of them can be as the sirens wail past them through the night. So I knew that the best thing we could do was book into the Millennium UN Plaza for a real treat...
