.... If you didn't want to eat in the hotel there were plenty of restaurants within walking distance of the hotel as well as MacDonalds and other fast food places. We also made use of the concierge service to a rrange a car to take us back to the airport (we were particularly concerned at the threat of a transit strike). The concierge clerk was helpful and ensured we would have a car. Priced slightly over what you could have got on the street but it gave us peace of mind that we would be picked up and also the set fare. I thouroughly enjoyed my trip to New york and it was made even more specialby this above-avergae hotel. It was central enough to everything we wanted to do but off the busy, busy streets so you didn't feel in the hub of things all the time....

The Westin New York at Times Square

Advantages: Fantastic Location - you couldn't wish for a nicer part of the city to stay in
Disadvantages: Reception staff are a little unfriendly - DO NOT USE THE IN ROOM PHONE!!!!!!

...I visited The Westin in October 2005 as a gift from my parents for my 21st birthday, they treated myself and my boyfriend to a 5 night stay in a superior room. I'll start by giving you some afcts about the hotel and then i'll give you my experience. The Westin New York at Times Square is on the corner of 43rd Street and 8th Avenue, it has 863 rooms and 126 club rooms and suites. It has a restaurant (shula's steak house) a bar (bar 10) and a coffee shop that does eat in and take away (Cosi's). It has 24 hour room service, a gym and spa, a ticket desk and a gift shop. See All of New York For $45

Advantages: An amazing idea, it allowed us to see a lot more of New York
Disadvantages: Not always spaces upstairs, Annoying and Disrespectful Tour Guides

...of the hotel, turn right and then go right again and then you?ll get there. Bull. I?m sorry; I really wish we had moaned about this, because the woman had obviously never used this bus tour before. If you stay anywhere near Times Square then you should be fine, I believe the pick up for the uptown tour is near Madame Taussauds, find that and you should be fine. From our hotel however, considering this was our first day in New York, finding this took about an hour, especially considering the men in the RED waistcoats, kept on sending us the wrong way. We later found out they were sending us to the pick up for the downtown tour. Once we found the pickup spot, we were already shattered, it was about 95 degrees at this point, so we were ready to pass out, we had also run out of water, from our walk. A hotel in the heart of New York City

Advantages: Great Location, Clean and Friendly Staff
Disadvantages: Views from hotel itself not great, no free wi fi

...My boyfriend turned 30 a few weeks ago and for his present I booked us a trip to New York and the Wellington Hotel is where I picked for us to stay due to its central location in Manhattan. Last Wednesday we flew out to NYC and checked into the Wellington. If you didn't know already this is where part of the Borat film was made, the main scene being where he tries to unpack his things in the lift thinking its his room and so many Borat jokes ensued in the elevators during our stay. The location of the hotel is amazing, its a 1 minute walk from Carnegie Hall, 2 minutes from Central Park and 5 minutes from Times Square and is located on the corner of 55th Street and 7th Avenue. The perfect location in New York

Advantages: Brilliant location, modern, big room, huge TV, one of the cheapest hotels
Disadvantages: Breakfast is expensive, toilet blocked a couple of times, not enough lifts

...The Park Central Hotel New York is in a brilliant location on 56th and 7th right in the centre of everything. A 10 minute walk downtown brings you to Times Square, 2 blocks uptown takes you to Central Park, 5th Avenue shopping is just 1 or 2 blocks to the east and a subway station 20 seconds away to take you to wherever else you want to go. Carnegie Hall is directly opposite and the Rockefeller Centre is less than 10 minutes away. The hotel is surrounded by gift shops and cafes and there's a nice little Irish bar just opposite. The location really couldn't get any better. When we first arrived it was difficult for us for find but that was only because we didn't have a map with us and because the grid system is so confusing at first. Advantages: Fabulous shopping, bargains, great sights
Disadvantages: You will be tired and have foot pain at the end of the trip

...there is more than four people in your group you're going to need two taxis and obviously that will double your cost. The ride into the city doesn't take long and I have to say that when we emerged from the Lincoln Tunnel into Manhattan it was everything I expected and more. Hundreds of yellow cabs, honking horns, loud noises and that was only one street in. We arrived at our hotel - the Milford Plaza on Eighth Avenue - and checked in quickly. By this time the jet lag was starting to set in a bit so we just went for a walk outside the hotel and found something to eat. One of my first memories of New York was walking down the road and seeing a fire engine come out of a firehouse and speed down the road, with passers by cheering and clapping them as they went. New York City's Best Kept Secret

Advantages: Small, Cheap, Quick to get around and beautiful animals
Disadvantages: Some animals looked way too hot in the heat we had. Wasn't sure if it was cruel or not?

Bentley Hotel - New York New York!!!!

Advantages: Clean, nice rooms - amazing views from roof top balcony
Disadvantages: 24 Hour coffee bar was actually a vending machine!!

...My lovely husband booked a short stay in New York for my ?surprise? 30th birthday. This was in 2002 and we went there at the beginning of October of that year. Just as a side note before I start the review of the hotel, the weather was fantastic and for much of the time we went out regularly in T-shirts. Anyway we stayed at The Bentley Hotel for the whole of our stay and overall we were impressed and enjoyed our time there. **ABOUT THE HOTEL** The Bentley is a 3 star hotel which was built in 1904 and last renovated in 2002, however I have a feeling some renovation may be going on now as the roof top restaurant has been closed until further notice. ...Gangs of New York, when i first started to watch this film i was struggling to get into it, but i am glad i stuck with it as its a great film, it is based in New York in 1846 where a battle is fought against the Irish and the native Americans over the five points area of New York City. The film is where Bill the Butcher played by Daniel Day Lewis kills Priest Vallon, whose son, Amsterdam Vallon Leonardo Dicaprio is taken to an orphanage. The plot then moves on 16 years to where Amsterdam returns to the five points to seek revenge against his fathers killer. Amsterdam then earns the gangster's respect, he must also contend with Jenny Everdean played by Cameron Diaz. The film is Directed by the great Martin Scorsese and this lives up to his other films. Leonardo and Cameron play their parts really well, but i think Daniel Day...

GANGS OF NEW YORK

Advantages: Excellent direction, beautiful set, good story, superb soundtrack, high quality film
Disadvantages: One or two minor lapses in parts of the film

.... So it?s hardly surprising that Gangs of New York cost well over $100 million to make. As a very young child Amsterdam Vallon witnesses his father?s horrific murder by Protestant Nativist Bill The Butcher. Being just a small boy Amsterdam can do little but he swears revenge and when he returns years later he finally gets to have an attempt at settling old scores. Leonardo DiCaprio is excellent as Amsterdam, after proving his superb acting ability himself numerous times in the past (The Basketball Diaries, Romeo + Juliet) maybe critics will finally take DiCaprio seriously as being a good actor. Daniel Day-Lewis proves his fine acting abilities as the vicious Bill The Butcher ? his performance should definitely earn him an Oscar nomination and maybe even win him the Oscar. Cameron Diaz provides most of the films few comical moments...
