..., I?m afraid I have forgotten her name now, was brilliant. When we got onto the bus, we said we wanted to go to Central Park, but wasn?t sure when and where to get off. She advised us to not get off at the first stop outside Central Park, and come and see the uptown of New York, and get dropped of outside Central Park Zoo which was where we eventually wanted to end up. Not only did she get the bus to stop there, she turned to us and asked if we enjoyed the trip. Throughout the whole trip, she was knowledgeable and answered any questions that we had, she also brought a lot of her own personal history into the tour and told us about what life was like for her back in the day. She pointed out things like the beautiful buildings and even the first ever McDonalds in New York. She did mention tipping a few times, but she didn?t push it...

A hotel in the heart of New York City

Advantages: Great Location, Clean and Friendly Staff
Disadvantages: Views from hotel itself not great, no free wi fi

...My boyfriend turned 30 a few weeks ago and for his present I booked us a trip to New York and the Wellington Hotel is where I picked for us to stay due to its central location in Manhattan. Last Wednesday we flew out to NYC and checked into the Wellington. If you didn't know already this is where part of the Borat film was made, the main scene being where he tries to unpack his things in the lift thinking its his room and so many Borat jokes ensued in the elevators during our stay. The location of the hotel is amazing, its a 1 minute walk from Carnegie Hall, 2 minutes from Central Park and 5 minutes from Times Square and is located on the corner of 55th Street and 7th Avenue. The placement of the hotel was my favourite thing about it as it was just so easy to walk to some of the city's best attractions from here. When we checked in...

It was probably the influence of TV shows such as Friends and Will & Grace but since then I've always wanted to see what life in the big apple was like. The perfect location in New York

Advantages: Brilliant location, modern, big room, huge TV, one of the cheapest hotels
Disadvantages: Breakfast is expensive, toilet blocked a couple of times, not enough lifts

...The Park Central Hotel New York is in a brilliant location on 56th and 7th right in the centre of everything. A 10 minute walk downtown brings you to Times Square, 2 blocks uptown takes you to Central Park, 5th Avenue shopping is just 1 or 2 blocks to the east and a subway station 20 seconds away to take you to wherever else you want to go. Carnegie Hall is directly opposite and the Rockefeller Centre is less than 10 minutes away. The hotel is surrounded by gift shops and cafes and there's a nice little Irish bar just opposite. The location really couldn't get any better. When we first arrived it was difficult for us for find but that was only because we didn't have a map with us and because the grid system is so confusing at first. New York City's Best Kept Secret

Advantages: Small, Cheap, Quick to get around and beautiful animals
Disadvantages: Some animals looked way too hot in the heat we had. Wasn't sure if it was cruel or not?

...With the New York Pass we had the option of visiting two zoos, either the Bronx Zoo or Central Park Zoo. Well Central Park is only about a 20 minute walk from our hotel, so we decided it was probably better to go to this one rather than Bronx Zoo. After a very long day in the 90 degree heat, we finally arrived at the zoo, got our tickets and went straight into the zoo. The first obstacle you?ll face is the photographers, attempting to get more money out of you in the end; we declined as we all looked like utter crap due to the heat. We immediately found a little bit of shelter in the form of this huge gazebo situated in the main part of the zoo, we sat here for a while before going to look at the rest of the zoo. Bentley Hotel - New York New York!!!!

Advantages: Clean, nice rooms - amazing views from roof top balcony
Disadvantages: 24 Hour coffee bar was actually a vending machine!!

...My lovely husband booked a short stay in New York for my ?surprise? 30th birthday. This was in 2002 and we went there at the beginning of October of that year. Just as a side note before I start the review of the hotel, the weather was fantastic and for much of the time we went out regularly in T-shirts. Anyway we stayed at The Bentley Hotel for the whole of our stay and overall we were impressed and enjoyed our time there. **ABOUT THE HOTEL** The Bentley is a 3 star hotel which was built in 1904 and last renovated in 2002, however I have a feeling some renovation may be going on now as the roof top restaurant has been closed until further notice. Advantages: Fantastic Location
Disadvantages: Not great quality rooms and washing facilities

...If you appreciate the "well, it's a roof over your head" style accommodation then I promise you will love the YMCA Westside, NYC. I was lucky enough to spend 5 days in New York last year as part of my college course so the accommodation was out of my hands. Fortunately I prefer to prioritise location to accommodation. As far as youth hostels go, the YMCA west side has everything and more. Literally 1 minute to the end of the road, cross the street and you will be in Central Park. Being in the middle of one of the most famous concrete jungles, central park is a particularly stunning view. Maybe it's the contrast of the tall trees and quiet pathways to the colossal skyscrapers and rowdy streets that heighten the beauty situated so close to the YMCA. ...Gangs of New York, when i first started to watch this film i was struggling to get into it, but i am glad i stuck with it as its a great film, it is based in New York in 1846 where a battle is fought against the Irish and the native Americans over the five points area of New York City. The film is where Bill the Butcher played by Daniel Day Lewis kills Priest Vallon, whose son, Amsterdam Vallon Leonardo Dicaprio is taken to an orphanage. The plot then moves on 16 years to where Amsterdam returns to the five points to seek revenge against his fathers killer. Amsterdam then earns the gangster's respect, he must also contend with Jenny Everdean played by Cameron Diaz. The film is Directed by the great Martin Scorsese and this lives up to his other films.
