Newark - After 911

Advantages: Easy access good parking plenty of facilities
Disadvantages: Currently undergoing major refurbishment, some delays

...I would firstly like to reassure the nervous traveler that, since the tragic events of September 11th 2001, security at this and other US Airports has vastly improved. I will write about the increased security later in this opinion. Newark International Airport is one of New York?s major Airports supporting both International and Internal flights. I have used Newark many times, and whilst it is not the greatest of Airports that I have passed through, it is not the worst either. Newark Airport is within the State of New Jersey and is New York?s 2nd largest airport. There are three terminals here, used for inbound and outbound flights, your terminal will depend upon which airline you are using. I have used both Terminals B and C, finding C to be the better to date, as B is currently the terminal most affected by construction...

Newark - in transition

Advantages: Not as busy as JFK
Disadvantages: Currently unorganized and unfriendly

...I have been travelling to USA for over five years now and have visited JFK and Newark. Newark has several advantages over JFK. To get to JFK involves traveling on some of the busiest roads in New York. Although Newark is in a busy section of the region, the roads are generally less full and the access is easier. Newark is generally less busy than JFK, although there are just as many international flights many people prefer to use JFK rather than Newark. Newark is currently undergoing improvements which make a nightmare to commute to and from. The road infrastructure is completely changing, and the parking lots are being improved. NEWARK AIRPORT - NOT THE BEST OF NYC

Advantages: Daily direct flights from UK at reasonable cost
Disadvantages: Not much to do with a lot of time to kill

...I arrived at Newark airport from Manchester on 5th September this year. No problem there, and made our way into the arrivals lounge. Lounge - sorry I must have used the word kindly. It was a huge hall where we were ordered to stand in long lines until ordered which desk to present our immigration papers and passports. Slick, quick but not over friendly. The second stage was the search, or lack of it - still, quite painless, although the people that were stopped were directed to a desk marked agriculture and food - couldn't understand the logic there, I honestly thought we were just holiday makers!! Finally made it into the public area, where we had to dump our luggage trolley, and proceed to make the descent down an escalator with the cases and hand luggage to the carpark area. Not easy if you had children or elderly. Surely...

Dull city that has some culture

Advantages: Major city near major airports
Disadvantages: Very gloomy and full of concrete

...Newark is a very large city, full of towering buildings, millions of commuters and much traffic. There are several ways into Newark, each with its own idiosyncrasies. By Car I traveled to Newark by car once and will never travel by car there again. You can compare Newark to London and New York, with much traffic, many dangerous drivers and road works. Navigation through Newark can be difficult and it is a good idea to know your route and several alternative routes well before you arrive. Newark is a concrete hell, cars of all shapes and sizes dart around carelessly, neither worrying nor caring for other people’s safety. Good Food is like Fine Art.

Advantages: Award Winning, Local Food, Great Ambience, Great Service, Wonderful Courtyard

We decided to book Café Bleu as a treat for our 20th (!) anniversary since we met. The rude, rude staff of home

Advantages: Pleasant security people, well served from all over USA and UK

...Arriving at Newark?s Liberty Airport (as it?s now called), provides a great view of New York as the plane makes it final approach. Coming in from Birmingham (BHX) on the daily Continental Airlines Flight, we struggled to get all our paper work done on time (why they hand it out about 10 minutes before you land I don?t know, we were bored stiff for previous 7 hours ? but I digress!) The paperwork would have to be handed in on arrival to the immigration service and customs. Having left our passports in our carry on luggage (and not wanting to move the old ladies which were between us and the aisle), we had to leave all the ?Passport Number? boxes blank. Cross Your Legs And Prepare For A Bumpy Ride

Advantages: Huge, modern design, central hub
Disadvantages: No toilets, seating, water fountains, shops or telephones in baggage transfer area

...Imagine being 5 months pregnant and stuck in a room with no water fountain, no toilet and no air conditioning with the weather outside in the 90's. And staff who don't give a damn and won't do anything about it. Yes, all this happened to me at Newark airport!! The day started badly. Our flight from Glasgow was on time, but unfortunately couldn't land because the airport had been closed due to bad weather. This happens a lot, apparently, because the Port Authority (who own the airport) are very aware of the risk of being sued so are apt to close the airport at the slightest sign of anything untoward. On this occasion it was bad weather. Our plane (a DC-10) ran out of fuel so landed at a nearby airforce base for refuelling. Then we had to wait for the airport to reopen. We were on the tarmac for about 3 and a half hours, with no air...
