...Calheta is a small village on the coast about 45 minutes west from Funchal airport by taxi, through lots of tunnels and about 21 miles from Funchal. The mountain provides a backdrop to the two hotels, owned by the same company and a few shops and several restaurants. AdvantagesGood portions and reasonable prices. Dogs welcome. Friendly enough service.

DisadvantagesSlightly grubby inside. Toilets run down and rather cold. Massive menu.
