The Powerhouse Gay Nightclub Newcastle June 2009

Advantages: Easy to make Conversations, Not everyone was rude
Disadvantages: High Prices, Some Rude Staff & Customers, Dirty Carpets, Crowded Toilets

...27th June 2009 (Visited on Friday Night [26th June]) Content: Only the first floor dancefloor and the roof terrace were open and the ground floor and upper dancefloor were closed. I had heard it had 3 floors so this was a dissapointment. But I do beleive more floors are open on a saturday. The club got quite busy and there did not seem to be much space. Certainly the toilets and the roof terrace were busy! The music on the dancefloor was not too bad with a wide range of pop songs playing. It is open till 4am, whereas most nightclubs in Newcastle shut at 3. People: The people were very chatty and forth-coming. Most of the customers made us feel very welcome and were fun to be around! So if you're interested please do read on! ***The University*** >>>>>General Info Newcastle is an old red brick University and consequently it has some of those old beautiful red brick parts that they just don't build anymore (this is where you will find architecture and the buisness school). It has a fabulous reputation and I can vouch for this personally, I think it is just great. Things round here are also changing fast, just in the last couple of years that I have been here they have built a brand new very funky looking Georgraphy department and the Northern Institute for Cancer Resarch. Newcastle

Advantages: The nightlife, the shopping, everything!!
Disadvantages: None!! A weekend prob isnt long enough!

...I am a student in Newcastle, and it is a brilliant city to live in. I'm from a small little town so Newcastle was a bit of a change for me, but I love it! NIGHTLIFE: Nights out in Newcastle are excellent, i tend to just go out through the week, as even tho Fridays and Saturdays are both excellent nights out, wherever you go it is really expensive (so on these nights I would just stick to the student union). On a Saturday night you could pay about £10 to get in a club. Every other night out in Newcastle is also brilliant- and cheap too! On a Monday night I would go to bars in The Gate - a big complex with the Odeon ciinema, restaurants (such as Frankie and Bennys, Pizza Hut, The Spice Cube, Nandos, Ask,M.A Potters and a new one Bannatyne) and the fantastic bars (many of which are open late, and more like clubs than bars). Newcastle's hidden clubbing gem

Advantages: Friendly, great atmosphere, intimate
Disadvantages: Small, difficult to get in on a weekend

...World Headquarters (or World HQ as it is locally known) is the only club in the city which relies entirely on word of mouth to advertise. Due to this there is a edgy, underground allure to the club. The club often has long queues outside, but people are never crammed in and it is one of the more 'comfotrable' clubs to be in. It is hidden behind the old bus station, with a very reasonable, slightly trendy but very comfy pub opposite for pre-entry drinks. World HQ is effortlessly cool, there is nothing special about the interior to make it have the kind of atmosphere it eludes. Baja Beach Club - The Club Of Fun

Advantages: Cheesy, Fun, Nice Vibes

...I have lived in Newcastle all my life and everyone keeps saying that Newcastle is the clubbin capital of teh UK etc etc. Didnt believe htat - all teh clubs were the same. Then along comes the Baja Beach Club (pronounced Baha). At first it was an "exclusive, place to be" nightclub, now everyone goes, and its that popular you WILL have to que for anywhere upto 30 mins just to get in - but once you are in, let the fun begin! The best way to describe Baja would be "Cheesy". Its full of 80's music and you wont be surprised to hear "I Think Were Alone Now" by Tiffany, "Never Give You Up" by Rick AStley etc etc. Yeah, your chringin now, but when you are there there is nothin better. Baja is not for the uptight, stuck up clubbers, its for ppl who could not give a F*** and are simply out to enjoy themselves. The staff are friendly...

Newcastle Castle

Advantages: Quiet, as nobody seems to know it is there. Supports the Society of Antiquaries.
Disadvantages: Lots of steps and uneven ground. No toilets on site.

...Strange as it may be, it seems many people in Newcastle don't actually realise that the city has a castle. But then, I expect that quite a few of you who have never been to the city are a bit surprised that there is still one as well. When I mentioned to people that I had been to the castle keep, I tended to get blank stares, puzzled looks or suggestions that in fact I meant Alnwick castle - but there is actually the remains of a castle in the heart of the city. To be perfectly honest, I didn't know there was a castle either until we were taken there on a field visit just before last Easter. And that is after 6 months of living in the city as a heritage student I might add. So, I think it is fair to say that the keep is something of a well-kept secret. I find it odd that the Society of Antiquaries who run the site don't advertise it...

...Many a year ago, I was always told that Legends was the place to be, the best club in Newcastle and such like.... And at the time, maybe it was, for me. I was about 16 at the time, and to me, it was an eye opener... dissapointingly though on a more recent visit, it seems to have lost it's charm. Now 5 years on aand having visited much bigger and "better" clubs all around the country it seems to be full of people like me but only 5 years younger... The decore hasn't changed and the drinks are still reasonably priced, all in all if you'd like to go somewhere, small, with decent music, fair prices and friendly staff then its the place for you. In fact, if you've never been before it's worth being there at 11:00pm to see the walls retract and the place transform itself from bar to club. Otherwise however, the dance floor is small...

Advantages: Lively, cosmopolitan city surrounded by stunning countryside and coast.
Disadvantages: None really - something for everyone - but wrap up outdoors!

This thriving and increasingly cosmopolitan City has major attractions, many centred on the lively and bustling Quayside area which has seen major redevelopment and investment in recent years. Within a short stroll from each other , along the Tyne, you can visit the Baltic Art Gallery, the Sage music hall, and the Milennium Bridge (which lights up in different colours at night and moves to allow ships higher up the Tyne - timetable for movements of the bridge are available at the Information Centre on the Gateshead side of the river).
