Hotel Dusk - Room 215

Advantages: Able to waste your time without noticing
Disadvantages: Very poor game play

...I bought this game, as I had read numerous reviews about it, and it sounded really exciting . But how was I disappointed. The game play is slow, if not a bit slower. Or I felt that I was doing was clicking on the screen, and reading some text. Every now and then I would be given a question to ask, by tapping on the question. The highlight of the game was some mini games which actually gave you somehting to do, other than this, there was plenty of text to read, to follow a story, and tapping the screen in the bottom right, to show the next bit of text. The text would lead you to where in the building you should go to next, and if you should not go in a particular room then the door would be locked. There were times when by asking the wrong question, you can loose the game, but what I found was that after I had a long...

Review of Hotel Dusk: Room 215 (Nintendo DS)

The wish room really is magic!

Advantages: Original storyline, great art and graphics.
Disadvantages: Hardly any puzzles.

...Rating: 12+ This interactive mystery novel is about a ex-cop turned salesman in 1979 who is searching for his work partner, Bradley. Kyle Hyde comes to Hotel Dusk to complete a job and discovers several clues that could lead him to Bradley, every single guest has a secret and you must unravel the lies and find out the truth. Each room is called a different name (wish, angel ect) and the wish room is rumoured to grant wishes to whoever stays there, now guess what room Kyle got? (Wish) Each bit is broken down into chapters (Around 10 chapters.) The characters are done in black and white sketch form and the background is colour computer graphics. Most of the game is dialogue and there aren't alot of puzzles to complete. Characters: Dunning Smith: The owner of Hotel Dusk who hates cops and troublemakers. Rosa: The hotels...

royal station hotel

Advantages: -
Disadvantages: --

...****Royal Station Hotel-Newcastle**** Initially my friend and i booked into a Travelodge but we decided very quickly that we needed another hotel and this is the one we ended up staying in. **Location/Getting there** This hotel is located right next to the train station which is fantastic, nothing worse than a long journey followed by having to find a hotel. There is loads of places to eat nearby, plenty to see and do.The bus station is also quite nearby and would take about 10 minutes to walk too. **Reception/staff** The hotel looks really nice from the outside-a grand looking building.Reception looks really nice with big chandlers hanging from the ceiling and there are two lifts.Staff were nice and i had the option of paying straight away or when i checked out. **Hotel/Room** The room i stayed in was a twin room and it had...

Old style gaming without violence - Hotel Dusk for DS

Advantages: A deep and atmospheric game
Disadvantages: Possibly a bit wordy and linear in gameplay

...Hotel Dusk : Room 215 is a detective and puzzle game for the Nintendo DS. It reminds me of games I used to play on the Amiga which were essentially point and click adventure games, where the game play and storyline was relatively set but gave the player lots of different options to explore the world built up by the programmers. The game appealed to me, as I'm really not that good at games which involve fighting other characters and jumping from platform to platform with precision timing, primarily as I'm hopeless at them and progress takes a long time. The plot is important to the game, and you take the role of the main character, Kyle Hyde, and you have to track down your missing friend by exploring the hotel. The game is set in 1979, in Los Angeles. In terms of game play, you will have to like reading to enjoy playing this game...

The UK's '4th coolest boutique hotel'

Advantages: Cental location, friendly service, individualistic
Disadvantages: A little cramped, grubby carpets, a little inflexible on breakfast times

...I travel a lot with work and it's a trifle sad but I have become blasé regarding the same luxury hotel chains-Renaissance, Holiday Inn, Hilton etc It was nice to stay at a boutique hotel for once-and one right slap bang in the middle of Newcastle city centre. Prestige Events Magazine voted it the 4th coolest boutique hotel in the UK last year. The Lowry in Manchester (I love it) was number 10. It's a cute little hotel with a mere 49 bedrooms. I'm not sure why we stay here rather than one of the hotel chains but I am not complaining! Apparently it used to be a bank. It's also Newcastle's first pet friendly hotel. I travelled with my dear deceased little dog in the past and we both enjoyed dog friendly hotels. First impressions: You could almost miss the hotel, as it's very discreet. And small! As soon as you walk through the door...

Hotel Dusk - The ultimate mystery?

Advantages: Good combination of stories into one, mixture of characters.
Disadvantages: Long game play, cheesy music, needs some patience.

...Characters Kyle Hyde - Your character in the game. Kicked out of the police force a few years ago and now works as a salesman for a company known as Red Crown. Ed Vincent - The head of Red Crown and your boss. He's also a friend of your dad. Involved in some shady dealings that Hyde helps with sometimes. Rachel - A Red Crown employee and Ed's secretary. Hyde thinks she's a looker and she feels the same about him. Tends to worry about Hyde. Brian Bradley - The man Hyde is looking for while working for Red Crown. He was Hyde's ex-partner. Dunning Smith - The owner of Hotel Dusk. A little grumpy at times and likes to tell fairy tales about the rooms. Jeff Angel - A guest at Hotel Dusk who stays in Room 213. He is the guest who brings Mila to the hotel. Maybe more to...

Review of Hotel Dusk: Room 215 (Nintendo DS)

Check in to hotel dusk!

Advantages: Very well written dialogue and story. Beautiful graphics
Disadvantages: Can plod on a bit, little replay value.

...Welcome to Hotel Dusk! You play through this film noir-esq mystery/puzzle game as former police detective now dodgy salesman Kyle Hyde. During your overnight stay in room 215 you'll use all the DS functions (Touch Screen, microphone, even closing the DS at one point) to interact with other guests, explore the hotel and solve the numerous puzzles you'll come across. The story centres around Hyde and his obsession with finding his former partner from the police. When he reaches Hotel Dusk, he starts noticing clues that link in with him, maybe something to do with his hotel room apparently having the ability to grant wishes. He meets other guests, each with their own story for Hyde to delve into and eventually many of the guests stories interlink and help Hyde find out more about his missing partner. The graphics are presented...

Review of Hotel Dusk: Room 215 (Nintendo DS)

Hotel room and decorative order was poor.

Advantages: Location; Free car car Parking. Staff
Disadvantages: Everything Else

...The Esplanade Hotel in Paignton in Devon has some good points and some awful ones.It is a two star hotel and it was probably built in the early 1900's. The best way for us to present our review is in sections. THE ROOM. It was very small with a microscopic bathroom with no daylight. The hand basin was tiny , a shower you could not move in and no bath. There was tea and coffee making facilities and a television. No view from the window as we were out the side of the hotel overlooking a flat roof. The beds were uncomfortable and in urgent need of replacement. The paint was very faded and the wallpaper had started peeling off the walls. CLEANING. Cleaning was done daily but to a low standard. Bits of paper on the floor were there when we arrived and the same bits remained when we left. We do not think the duster made more than a brief...

Review of Esplanade Hotel: Paignton

A Very Glassy (sic) Hotel!

Advantages: Very convenient location; extremely comfortable hotel.
Disadvantages: If I MUST find one, it would be that we had to ask three times for a cot. Otherwise, tickety-boo in all respects.

...Having recently visited Amanda?s parents in Scotland, we decided to split up the return journey by stopping off in Newcastle ? it?s a very long drive otherwise and, whilst not exactly halfway distance-wise, it actually made an excellent stop-off point. Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, in the North East of England, has heaps going for it and Amanda found herself in shoppers? heaven at the adjacent Metrocentre shopping mall. Baby Josh didn?t do too badly out of the deal either, leaving with bags full of goodies from the ?Warner Bros? store and ?Toys R Us?. Having selected Newcastle as our destination, I decided to book via ?Priceline?. To be honest, I?m something of a Hilton fan and I knew that Hilton had just opened a brand new hotel in Newcastle, which I was very keen to try. With ?Priceline?, however, the luxury of choice is denied and you have...

Lakeside Hotel - Good Facilities, Poor Rooms

Advantages: Excellent Food, Lovely setting, Good Pool
Disadvantages: Poor Rooms

...The lakeside hotel is set in beautifull lakedistrict on the banks of Lake Windermere. I decided to treat my wife to a 2 night break away. We went for the best room in the hotel hoping for a romantic break. Well it hasnt been the worst £500 ive spent but i must say i was a little dissappointed with the hotel for the money. The Room: The room looked really quite dated and old, i realise this is an old hotel but that should add to the character and charm of your stay. The bedroom was small, had a nice view if you could put up with the draft coming through the windows. The bathroom was a reasonable size but the sunken bath looked as if it hadnt been washed properly for a long time. Similarly the shower was difficult to get to the correct temprature and the sinks were in a similar condition to the bath. In all honestly it looked as if...
