Choose Newcastle!!!!!!!!
Advantages: Read on and find out.
Disadvantages: It is a long way from the rest of the country.....
...I have now been a postgraduate student in the Department of Psychology at the University of Newcastle for the last two years and within this review I am going to sell you the virtues of coming here (mostly)..... So if you're interested please do read on!
***The University***
>>>>>General Info
Newcastle is an old red brick University and consequently it has some of those old beautiful red brick parts that they just don't build anymore (this is where you will find architecture and the buisness school). It has a fabulous reputation and I can vouch for this personally, I think it is just great. Things round here are also changing fast, just in the last couple of years that I have been here they have built a brand new very funky looking Georgraphy department and the Northern Institute for Cancer Resarch. Things are changing fast...

Newcastle
Advantages: The nightlife, the shopping, everything!!
Disadvantages: None!! A weekend prob isnt long enough!
...I am a student in Newcastle, and it is a brilliant city to live in. I'm from a small little town so Newcastle was a bit of a change for me, but I love it!
NIGHTLIFE:
Nights out in Newcastle are excellent, i tend to just go out through the week, as even tho Fridays and Saturdays are both excellent nights out, wherever you go it is really expensive (so on these nights I would just stick to the student union). On a Saturday night you could pay about £10 to get in a club.
Every other night out in Newcastle is also brilliant- and cheap too! On a Monday night I would go to bars in The Gate - a big complex with the Odeon ciinema, restaurants (such as Frankie and Bennys, Pizza Hut, The Spice Cube, Nandos, Ask,M.A Potters and a new one Bannatyne) and the fantastic bars (many of which are open late, and more like clubs than bars). There...

Newcastle's hidden clubbing gem
Advantages: Friendly, great atmosphere, intimate
Disadvantages: Small, difficult to get in on a weekend
...mural painted up them, and there are some very large toilets at the top which have a full time attendant. There is no lift for disabled access. The upstairs room is a more traditional club area, with a few sofas around the edge, and a dark dance floor. The sofa areas are better lit, but all under air conditioning and very cold. It is also quite hard to talk in this area due to the noise of the music.
Music tends to run towards House. World HQ has a lot of live acts, usually very big names in the House and trance music scene, but they do not have live music only DJs. Bigger names tend to be on a weeknight, although the club does not open Monday-Wednesday unless a named DJ is booked.
Drinks vary wildly in price, the bottles are quite reasonable but mixed drinks can be expensive. Non branded sprits come in very cheap however...

The safest room in the house!
Advantages: Brilliant story, completely captivating
Disadvantages: No special features on the one disc DVD
...Panic Room is a thriller starring Jodie Foster from 2002. It runs for approximately 112 minutes & is rated 15. It received a mainly positive reception from the critics. It grossed an estimated $196,397,415 at the box office on a budget of $48,000,000.
Panic Room is directed by David Fincher who is famous for working with Brad Pitt on films such as; Fight Club, Se7en & The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button. He also worked on serial killer thriller The Zodiac.
The main star of this film is Jodie Foster who I?m sure most of you will have heard of but if you haven?t she?s starred in films such as; Silence Of The Lambs, The Brave One, Freaky Friday & Taxi Driver.
Panic Room is about Meg Altman, a recently divorced woman who moves into a new home with her 12 year old diabetic daughter Sarah (Kristen Stewart). The house isn?t just...

Panic Room
Advantages: Scary - Good
Disadvantages: Some weird acting
...Panic Room
Panic Room is the story of a mother and daughter who moved into a huge brand new
A three floor house with CCTV in every room, a lift, and a panic room.
Wow how amazing. Now, their first night in the house they end up getting broken into by three men who are after a certain something in the house. And the three men thought the house was empty so they broke in - but when they found out there was someone living in the house, 2 of the 3 men set out to kill them, just so they could get what they were after.
The noise of the men in the house woke the mother, so she checked out the CCTV to find the men wandering about her house, but when she tries to escape the men chase her up the stairs. She runs for her daughter in the top floor then gets the lift back down, and they end up hiding in the panic room, where they can get...

Any Room For Me?
Advantages: Great rhyming text and brilliantly illustrated!
Disadvantages: Some children may be a little scared of the beast that emerges from the ditch!
...suddenly the wind blows her hat off.
"Down! cried the witch and they flew to the ground. They searched for the hat but no hat could be found."
A dog then appears from the bushes with the hat and asks the witch if there's room on the broom for him;
"Yes! cried the witch and the dog clambered on.
The witch tapped the broomstick and whoosh! they were gone."
And so the story continues with different things falling and the witch having to land the broomstick to hunt for them, each time a different animal finding the item and asking if there was room on the broom for them.
Due to the weight of the animals on the stick, it eventually gives way and snaps in two.
'Down fell the cat and the dog and the frog.
Down they went tumbling into a bog.
The witch's half broomstick flew in to a cloud,
And the witch heard a roar that was scary...

Newcastle Castle
Advantages: Quiet, as nobody seems to know it is there. Supports the Society of Antiquaries.
Disadvantages: Lots of steps and uneven ground. No toilets on site.
...Strange as it may be, it seems many people in Newcastle don't actually realise that the city has a castle. But then, I expect that quite a few of you who have never been to the city are a bit surprised that there is still one as well. When I mentioned to people that I had been to the castle keep, I tended to get blank stares, puzzled looks or suggestions that in fact I meant Alnwick castle - but there is actually the remains of a castle in the heart of the city.
To be perfectly honest, I didn't know there was a castle either until we were taken there on a field visit just before last Easter. And that is after 6 months of living in the city as a heritage student I might add. So, I think it is fair to say that the keep is something of a well-kept secret. I find it odd that the Society of Antiquaries who run the site don't advertise it...

MALMAISON NEWCASTLE - LE PETITE SPA
Advantages: Far too many to mention here!
Disadvantages: None, only that I would have likes to set up camp there!
...to the Relaxation Suite when we were ready.
We did, and spent a further 20 minutes or so relaxing and playing in the chairs and drinking cool water before going back to the changing suite to shower and get ready. It was an amazing experience and well worth £55.00 each - other facilities we could have used (and will, next time we go) included Sauna, Steam Room and Solarium.
I can truly recommend Le Petite Spa to anyone who feels in need of a calming relaxing time - its amazing!
Malmaison Newcastle can be found on The Quay-Side, call 0191 245 5000 for details
or log on to www.malmaison-newcastle.com
There is a wide range of prices and treatments to cover various different budgets, and if you have a body treatment you can use any of the other facilities mentioned above.

Dear Room
Advantages: honest and thought provoking.
Disadvantages: some work maybe seen as to short.
...about forgeting and things moving on, it covers the changing face of a house he used to wait ouside day after day. Secondly is the title poem 'Dear Room' as you may expect this is the longest in the book covering three pages, this covers the story of the goings on of a room over the years and its first use as a childs play area for games to be played everyday to it gathering dust in lated life and becoming used less and less. Third is 'Helter-Skelter' this doesnt really need any explaination! It is a lighthearted story of a helter skelter through the eyes of the Author when he was a child. Forth is 'Horse and Dolphine Yard' which is a short piece about the author remembering apart of his childhood growing up in china. Fith is 'Party Tricks' quite an adult themed one this one so i'll leave it at that! Sixth is 'Tell' and is a short piece about...

The Old Manor In Newcastle
Advantages: Central, cheap, fantastic value for money
Disadvantages: No on-site cafe
...A couple of us went to Newcastle for the weekend to visit some friends we'd made back in September when we arrived in Australia. A town in New South Wales that isn't as popular a tourist destination as, say, Port Stephens, Newcastle is just up the coast, but is a busy port with some long stretches of sandy beach that attract business travellers and tourists, and so has a range of accommodation accordingly.
We chose to stay in the YHA Newcastle Beach, choosing it for its convenience, location and price. In general Youth Hostel Association hostels seem to be a bit nicer and better maintained than independent places, and cost slightly more because of this. You also need to be a member, but you can pay a surcharge ($3.50 pppn) in lieu of membership. I expected this to be in addition to the room rate, but since we were never asked for it...
