Choose Newcastle!!!!!!!!
Advantages: Read on and find out.
Disadvantages: It is a long way from the rest of the country.....
...I have now been a postgraduate student in the Department of Psychology at the University of Newcastle for the last two years and within this review I am going to sell you the virtues of coming here (mostly)..... So if you're interested please do read on!
***The University***
>>>>>General Info
Newcastle is an old red brick University and consequently it has some of those old beautiful red brick parts that they just don't build anymore (this is where you will find architecture and the buisness school). It has a fabulous reputation and I can vouch for this personally, I think it is just great. Things round here are also changing fast, just in the last couple of years that I have been here they have built a brand new very funky looking Georgraphy department and the Northern Institute for Cancer Resarch. Things are changing fast...

Local lad, Local University
Advantages: Great campus, friendly staff & excellent night life.
Disadvantages: Hand in dates, uni work
...Just before I started Newcastle Uni almost 5 years ago i was on a bit of a low. I'd applied to do mechanical engineering at leeds, aston, edinburgh and glasgow, and had been knocked back by all of them. It was shortly after this bitter disappointment that a family friend had suggested applying to Newcastle.
I therefore deferred my application for a year, got a job in the relevant sector and then re-applied the following year to Newcastle Uni, a decision that I will never regret. Once I had been accepted for the interview I began to realise that after all this time, after all my life growing up in this city, that I had never even realised this place had existed. It was massive.
The campus mainly comprises of traditional red-brick buildings, with the odd modern building and tower block fitting neatly in the gaps. Considering that I...

Newcastle
Advantages: The nightlife, the shopping, everything!!
Disadvantages: None!! A weekend prob isnt long enough!
...I am a student in Newcastle, and it is a brilliant city to live in. I'm from a small little town so Newcastle was a bit of a change for me, but I love it!
NIGHTLIFE:
Nights out in Newcastle are excellent, i tend to just go out through the week, as even tho Fridays and Saturdays are both excellent nights out, wherever you go it is really expensive (so on these nights I would just stick to the student union). On a Saturday night you could pay about £10 to get in a club.
Every other night out in Newcastle is also brilliant- and cheap too! On a Monday night I would go to bars in The Gate - a big complex with the Odeon ciinema, restaurants (such as Frankie and Bennys, Pizza Hut, The Spice Cube, Nandos, Ask,M.A Potters and a new one Bannatyne) and the fantastic bars (many of which are open late, and more like clubs than bars). There...

Newcastle Castle
Advantages: Quiet, as nobody seems to know it is there. Supports the Society of Antiquaries.
Disadvantages: Lots of steps and uneven ground. No toilets on site.
...Strange as it may be, it seems many people in Newcastle don't actually realise that the city has a castle. But then, I expect that quite a few of you who have never been to the city are a bit surprised that there is still one as well. When I mentioned to people that I had been to the castle keep, I tended to get blank stares, puzzled looks or suggestions that in fact I meant Alnwick castle - but there is actually the remains of a castle in the heart of the city.
To be perfectly honest, I didn't know there was a castle either until we were taken there on a field visit just before last Easter. And that is after 6 months of living in the city as a heritage student I might add. So, I think it is fair to say that the keep is something of a well-kept secret. I find it odd that the Society of Antiquaries who run the site don't advertise it...

Newcastle Attractions
Advantages: Lively, cosmopolitan city surrounded by stunning countryside and coast.
Disadvantages: None really - something for everyone - but wrap up outdoors!
...and this is saluted by a Red Arrow flyover.
There are some terrific places to eat and drink including Unos, La Tasca (tapas bar) , The Slug and Lettuce Bistro, The Pitcher and Piano and Est, Est Est as well as many others. The Old Cooperage pub is worth a visit and there are also several nightclubs by the Quayside. The Quayside area is well served by hotels including Malmaison, The Copthorne and The Hilton.
Grey Street has been voted one of the most attractive streets in England and a stroll up it from the river will lead to a huge variety of shops. Newcastle is a vibrant university town and of course there is the football!
A short way out of the city will lead you to the stunning coastline, from Tynemouth up to the Scottish Borders which boasts magnificent castles and fabulous coastline. Tynemouth hosts an extremely popular flea...

MALMAISON NEWCASTLE - LE PETITE SPA
Advantages: Far too many to mention here!
Disadvantages: None, only that I would have likes to set up camp there!
...***This is a review only of the Spa facilities at Malmaison Newcastle, which can be used by hotel guests or visitors. As we did not stay overnight here, I cannot comment on the rest of the hotel, though everything we say and experienced was exquisite, and I would definately stay at one of their sister hotels if I am travelling away from Newcastle***
Having recently suffered from a bout of depression that left me feeling pretty rough, I decided to treat myself and my best friend to an afternoon being pampered at Newcastle's Malmaison. Their Petite Spa had just been refurbished, and so I decided this was the place to go. My friend flew up from London and we had lunch on Newcastle's Quay-Side, visited The Baltic Art Gallery, and headed over to Malmaison for our 5pm appointment.
There are lots of treatments to choose from, ranging...

The Old Manor In Newcastle
Advantages: Central, cheap, fantastic value for money
Disadvantages: No on-site cafe
...A couple of us went to Newcastle for the weekend to visit some friends we'd made back in September when we arrived in Australia. A town in New South Wales that isn't as popular a tourist destination as, say, Port Stephens, Newcastle is just up the coast, but is a busy port with some long stretches of sandy beach that attract business travellers and tourists, and so has a range of accommodation accordingly.
We chose to stay in the YHA Newcastle Beach, choosing it for its convenience, location and price. In general Youth Hostel Association hostels seem to be a bit nicer and better maintained than independent places, and cost slightly more because of this. You also need to be a member, but you can pay a surcharge ($3.50 pppn) in lieu of membership. I expected this to be in addition to the room rate, but since we were never asked for it...

Aye man.... It's champion
Advantages: Cheap nights out, Very high standard of teaching and facilities, massive numbers of clubs/societies to join, huge student union, big library
Disadvantages: Fines, the weather
...Where do you start to describe a university? This is probably the most difficult opinion I have ever decided to write, although it is one which could prove most useful to somebody who is yet to make up their mind as to where to go.
The reason I say it is hard to write about university is this: ? your university life encompasses every single aspect of how you live for three years and where you choose to spend this time impacts highly on almost every one of these. Just listing the different things that Newcastle has which are important to me has taken me a long time ? many of these things which I have enjoyed or even disliked did not enter my head when thinking about which university to go to. Therefore, I will first briefly detail the circumstances which lead to my studying at the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne?

Francesca's Newcastle - live up to the hype?
Advantages: Value for money, atmosphere, courteous and helpful staff
Disadvantages: Accessibility, desserts
...Francesca's is a legendary name in Newcastle and I had wanted to see for myself if it lived up to its reputation, having read one or two very poor reviews as well as many excellent ones. We were a group of 9 visiting on a Saturday in July. Luckily we were able to join the queue indoors, as it was raining when we arrived. I'd heard that parking would be a severe problem but had assumed that would be due to a lot of parked traffic round and about, but in fact it was due to almost all the streets for quite some distance around the restaurant being permit-only parking in the mornings and also during the crucial 5-10pm slot, which was deeply frustrating as they are clearly student lets for the most part and 95% of those spaces were free. We finally found a spot some 5 minutes walk away which wasn't too bad.
Queueing to get in seems...

Worcester University
Advantages: Accomodation, Student Union, Sports, Clubs, Library, IT, History
Disadvantages: Expense
...I've been here getting on for around a week now and I must say that I have had an excellent time so far. Before accepting the offer to go Worcester I travelled to it to investigate it and to see if it was for me. After travelling around some of the other universitys that I got into I came to the conclusion that this one was more for me conpared to any of the others.
Size
*********
I've found that its small which makes it quaint in my eyes and from my opinion however I find a city that is huge can be a little too big and can appear scary and overwhelming at times. Worcesters size is perfect offering up Night Clubs, Food, Shops and culture.
The University was originally opened as an emergency teaching college until only recently in the last few years it has been granted the ability to become a university. This means it has being...
