The graphics are great, players look realistic and it runs very smoothely. Music is great, hockey fans will love the game, and even others will enjoy it. It is a must buy for anyone. NHL 2001 may be a better buy as it has newer rosters and more features but for a cheapish game NHL 99 is not to be missed... Read review

Advantages: Excellent graphics and multiplayer action
Disadvantages: Not quite the same musical atmosphere as NHL 99

...Having spent two years living in Canada I was overcome by the whole Ice Hockey Scene. I used to watch a local club on a Saturday night, watch NHL on cable and play Hockey as much as I could. The whole atmosphere of a Hockey game was electric. Once I returned to the UK I was desparate for a fix of Hockey. It actualy came along in the form of NHL 99, although an old game now it still kicks Butt!! When I saw NHL 2000 however I just had to have a copy as the graphics of NHL 99 were starting to get a little long in the tooth. NHL 2000 is altogether a smoother more polished game with excellent graphics and fast action. As far as gameplay goes it will still have you on the edge of your seat and hold onto you game after game. The only disadvantage is that I don't think NHL 2000 quite manages to maintain the same atmosphere that NHL 99 could... Read review

...NHL 2K is a very impressive Dreamcast sports title produced by the legendary Sega Sports team (who are also responsible for the amazing NBA 2K, Virtua Tennis and NFL 2K1) and really is worth buying if you are an ice hockey fan. There's some similarities between this and NBA 2K namely the way the game plays: it's fast fluid and incredible fun with realistic graphics and very good player animations, but it isn't as smooth or as stylish as it's basketball counterpart. NHL 2K is an ice hockey fans dream game, and its currently the best game on any format in the fairly quiet genre of ice hockey games. There is ever statistic and player that you'd want, various game modes, and a very interesting punch up system which can happen at any time during the actual game! ...NHL 2000 is a game with the best graphics, controlling, music and sound effects.You can create your own player with your face, though when I created my player his face was not like mine. While you are making a hockeymen you should choose his weight and growing,team and number,position and the best hand(left or right). You have to choose type of a game: season, friendly match, bulits, training.Then you have to choose team,control buttons and this time you can play. I've bought this game because I read something about it in magazins. If you like NHL and hockey you should take it.It seems to me that you can't have something better.... Read review

...A good overall game, once you get used to the new passing system using the right analogue stick to control the players' sticks and the left analogue stick to control their movement. If you've played previous installments of the series this can be tricky at first but soon becomes more intuitive than previous control sytems (in my opinion!). The dynasty mode continues to impress in this version, bringing the new salary cap into play in salary negotiations makes a good extra dimension for the management side of the game. The dynasty mode will keep you playing this game for months on end Graphically, the series continues to impress with player movements and faces being realistically modelled for a more in depth gaming experience. Well worth buying for any hockey fan new to the EA NHL franchise, or for an old campaigner looking to update... Read review

...NHL2000 is fantastic. This is the first time i've brought a hockey game for the playstation and I think i've warn it out. You've got everything that you need in a hockey game. Big hits, Line changes, and yes Fighting the opposition. You've got all the stats all the players all the stadiums. Watch the stadium picture while your waiting for the game to load there very good. You've got options to play on four different levels and play several different modes, you can play Season, Exhabition or shoot-out. I play the Mighty Ducks and have won the NHL already. Trade in the best players and destroy the opposition. This really is a great game and you should get it today. Or tommorow if your reading this at night.... Read review

...I could easily understand somebody not wanting to try this after the two previous games. NHL 98 was had fast action and hard hits - not to mention the fights, but was ridiculously hard to score on. Then there was NHL 99, ridiculously easy to score but had no action or speed or fights. So finally EA Sports get it right, fast action, great graphics, realistic (allegedly) player faces, great SFX and the challenge to score and keep goals out was also excellently compromised between its two predecessors. The game allows you to take part in an entire season (I recommend you put a low game time on for this), Exhibitions (friendleys), and cup knouckout tournaments. Great game and great value at under £20... Read review

Advantages: A brilliant game for single or multiplayer mode
Disadvantages: Can get a bit easy in single player

...NHNL 2000 is without a doubt the best ice hockey game available if not the best sports game that money can buy. The range of options are great, you can have an exhibition match, a full seasen or you can just play the playoffs. You can also customise youor own tournament with either international or nhl teams. The commentry is superb and EA's attention to detail is once again outstanding. The differant ways that you can score has also been improved compared to NHL 99, with the ability to shoot one timers, power the puck past the goaltender or an accurate shooter can beat the keeper up high. There are 4 differant difficulty levels for you to try out but once you have played a few games on the most difficult level (all star) the game strangely becomes very easy and you will always win every game.
