A bargain or a cheap TV

Disadvantages: It's got the Matsui name on it

...? Nicam Stereo TV. The reason that is was this price was that it had been an ex display model, i.e. it had been on the shelves of Currys showing whatever they show. The normal price of the TV is £127.95, so I think I picked up a bargain! Think about it this way, you can either spend £90 on a 14? TV or £87 for an ex display 21? TV. I know what I?m after! So, what?s the TV got and what?s it like. Well for a starter, it looks pretty good. It?s casing is a fairly good quality, silver plastic. The two speakers are visible on either side of the screen, also in silver. The only thing that annoys me is that you can actually see where the speakers are, if you get my drift. Along the bottom you have the power button, a pull down cover to access the display and volume details and the remote receiver, which is black and actually looks quite good next...

The Daewooo 28inch Nicam Television

Advantages: Superb big picture with sound to match.
Disadvantages: The 5 second delay at start-up.

...The normal style, (i.e. non-widescreen) 28” Daewoo Nicam Teletext television (Model DTE-28A7GB) is superb value for money at the moment. Mine was £260, complete with stand and free delivery, from Index (www.littlewoods-index.com), purchased July 01, but my son bought the same for £220 from the Co-op at Stoke-on-Trent but without delivery or stand. The thing tunes itself, and even sets its own clock. The picture is clear, sharp, very natural and fully adjustable to your personal preference. There are three picture effects to choose from the remote and they are, (1) Ordinary, (2) Widescreen (black bands top & bottom) and (3) Zoom (magnifies the middle section of the picture), the use for which I cannot fathom. The sound is beautifully robust, retains a crisp realistic edge at all volumes and which is also fully adjustable...

Matsui 28WV2N - 28" Widescreen NICAM Stereo TV

Advantages: Value for money.
Disadvantages: No 14:9 support.

Two rear SCART sockets and front A/V inputs would allow you, in theory, to connect your VCR, Decoder, DVD player and Camcorder all at once (providing you have a half decent decoder with two way/pass-through SCART sockets for your VCR), creating the ultimate home entertainment unit for showing off to your neighbours. For this sort of money you don't get too much 'flashy' stuff (e.g Dolby surround - we have to make do with 'primitve old' NICAM - although I'm thinking of investing in a seperate Dolby amp - Videologic Digitheatre to be precise), but what is there seems to work well. All that stuff people tell you about Widescreen is true - films really are more enjoyable this way. You should note, however...

KV28FX20 A good all rounder.

Advantages: Good Picture, reasonable Sound.
Disadvantages: Relatively high price in comparison to other manufacturers

...Sony have always been a manufacturer who like to stay at the top of the market and the launch nearly 18 months ago of the FX20 in its current form merely confounds this. Incororating Sony's WEGA technology, the picture is exceptionally good for a "basic" 50hz television, and coupled with a DVD player the effect is simply stunning. The set is catered for in the sound department with a simple Nicam setup which although not particularly technologically advanced, is effective none the less. If you're really looking for a Pro-Logic set, Sony also manufacture the KV28FS20 which is identical in every way except that it has a Dolby Pro-Logic setup in preference to it's Nicam equivalent. In summary, the FX20 is a fantastic set, though if you can afford the 100hz set then you will obviously reap the benefits (the KV28FX60). If you're looking to...

It is black in colour so matches my black panasonic tv i bought it to be used with. It is a NICAM vcr so when i play videos which have digital surround sound it sounds great as i have it all wired through my hifi surround sound system. It still records and plays back as well as the day it was bought. In the box you get the VCR itself, a manual, a coaxial cable, aremote contro with batteries and a manual. I have it attached to my home entertainment system via a scart cable into the back of my digital freeview box then from there to the back of the tv. ...We recently bought a 28 inch telly (thats TELLY Jenniflower, Leeann and Karen) from Currys for £230. What a bargain I hear you cry? Well not really. Here is why. You have to be sitting on top of the set to make the remote work. I though it was dud batteries at first but no. Its a real poor range on the remote control. The picture quality is not too bad until you see it working in the shop next too a £500 set. But then again you get what you pay for and a 28 inceher is not bad for £230. It has Nicam and text so I cant really complain. It is real useful for playing playstation on when you have had too many kebabs and beer. Believe me, i know....

Television Heaven - Toshiba 46XF355D

Advantages: Widescreen, Speakers, 46 Inch, 2 Scarts

...I bought the product over a week ago, and I am largely impressed by it. Away from the technical jargon, its looks make this television, and the edge around the screen is so small it makes the screen look even bigger than its 46 inches. The stand I am not using as I have mine mounted on the wall, but the stand is a good extra if needed. It is well worth its price, although expensive, I feel I wont be purchasing another television for a very long time. The remote is easy to us, and the change screen width and height is excellent so you dont always have to have it on widescreen. The loudspeakers are excellent if you are watching action films!!!! The Nicam steroe system really is excellent. 2 Scart leads at the back are extremely helpful as I have a playstation hooked up to it aswell, for video games, this is the TV you...

Now for the VHS, wow I kept thinking my videos have never sounded so good, then I relized the machine had Nicam sound if you have them hooked up I believe they will play in Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound. The remote is the best it is big with large easy to see and use rubber buttons and survives the daily drop to the floor with no batteries flying out. I wish they'd event an unlosable remote though!! Overall its a very good DVD/Video player and if you buy it you won't be dissapointed....

Woo. A Daewoo.

Advantages: Great for its price

...I had a Daewoo video recorder for Christmas and was not expecting brilliant things form it. How wrong I was! It is brilliant. DVD is great to have to watch films on but what about Recording? You still need this facility. That is where my Daewoo steps in. Its got 6 reading heads so the picture quality is excellent for such a budget Video. It is not Nicam but it is Hi Fi Compatible. Useful for hooking up to the stereo and annoying the neighbours! It has the facility to be both Loing Play and Short play so you can squeeze twice as much on your tapes than you used to. Quality hardly suffers on long play either. The best thing in my mind is the ability to play both PAL and NTSC videos on one machine. I was sent a American Format Hockey video last year and when I watched it on my old video it was black and white and sound quality suffered...
