Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54

Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.

Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied. On Christmas day when opened we found a relatively small box tightly packed with the player in polystyrene packaging. Nick and Norah's boring film

Advantages: Lots of music, if you like music

...(film only review) I had high hopes for 'Nick and Norah's Infinite playlist'. I had regarded the film 'Juno' as almost creating a new genre of movie, by that I mean, aimed at the teenage audience but with a clever and intelligent script, tackling serious issues with sensitivity with a serious, yet playful approach. I thought I would enjoy this as much as 'Juno', but I didn't. It's perhaps unfair for me to draw comparison, but seeing as the guy playing Nick, Michael Cera, played the male lead in 'Juno', comparisons are inevitable. So, what's the film about? We meet Nick who is still in love with his ex, we learn early on that he likes making her mix-CDs. We meet Norah, who it has a friend, who has an ex, that keeps making her CDs, she has no interest, thus throws the CDs away, to the annoyance of Norah, who picks them up...

...Nick of Time is a great film from 1995 which I'd recommend as a must see. Nick of Time stars Johnny Depp, Christopher Walken, Roma Raffia, Charles S Dutton, Peter Strauss, Gloria Rueben and Marsha Mason. Johnny Depp is Gene Watson who is randomly picked out from an every day crowd in LA's Union Station and given a mission which turns out to be his worst nightmare. ...I actually stumbled upon this channel by accident, whilst flicking through the channels one day. After many years of watching cbeebies (bbc channel for pre school children) I felt it was time for a change. Mainly because we had been watching the channel almost every day for nearly 4 years (not continuously obviously only for a few hours each day) and by now I think we probably had seen every episode of each programme shown at least twice over if not more :O) It probably didn't bother Chloe or Lee, but was definitely starting to get to me. And there's only so many times you can sit there and watch the teletubbies over and over again without before getting seriously phased by it, i am sure you know what I mean :O) So anyway whilst flicking through the channels I came across NICK JR. Nick Cave and the Bad seeds, with good and bad

Advantages: The "best" of nick cave and the bad seeds, Cave's vocals, great songs, wonderful lyrics

...Nick Cave and the Bad seeds put their best songs together on an album and this is what we end up with. A sixteen track CD, wich has songs dating right through their career together (almost). Cave got with the Bad seeds in 1984 and this album goes as far back as that an all the way upto 1997 (The boatmans call). The album takes songs from each of the albums in this time peroid (though as the inlay booklet confess, not in chronological order). Cave and the bad seeds, have been described as being "Post-punk", "alt-rock" and "rock" all of these and more could be used to explain the bands sounds. Caves deep vocals as well as the musical arrangements which spand from simple to incredibly difficult, mixed with the dark and deep lyrics, allow this album to be a show case of Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds.
