Nick Cave and the Bad seeds, with good and bad
Advantages: The "best" of nick cave and the bad seeds, Cave's vocals, great songs, wonderful lyrics
Disadvantages: Some "bad" songs
...Nick Cave and the Bad seeds put their best songs together on an album and this is what we end up with. A sixteen track CD, wich has songs dating right through their career together (almost). Cave got with the Bad seeds in 1984 and this album goes as far back as that an all the way upto 1997 (The boatmans call). The album takes songs from each of the albums in this time peroid (though as the inlay booklet confess, not in chronological order).
Cave and the bad seeds, have been described as being "Post-punk", "alt-rock" and "rock" all of these and more could be used to explain the bands sounds. Caves deep vocals as well as the musical arrangements which spand from simple to incredibly difficult, mixed with the dark and deep lyrics, allow this album to be a show case of Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds.
So the songs list from their rather...

Cave's violent set of songs will make you rejoice!
Advantages: Cave proves to be near unrivalled lyrically, The Bad Seeds are amazing musicians
Disadvantages: If you don't like things dark and violent then... go buy James Blunt.
...Man, I love this album. I have been listening to it almost non stop for months now and it never ceases to impress me. Firstly, it creates a much needed balance between the two albums gone before it ? Tender Prey and The Good son. For those who had loved Tender Prey, The Good son was a bit of a shock. While the stories Cave told were actually still as deep and unsettling as ever, it was the more simple and direct songs amongst the set such as The Ship Song that perhaps gave the long time Cave fan a bit of a kick in the cherries! The Bad Seeds were becoming far more diverse by exploring the love song as well as the death song, and all for the better for it.
Secondly, you can tell that time has been spent on the album with fine tuning it. The Bad Seeds weren?t impressed with the production on the album when it was originally...

NIck Cave's greatest achievement
Advantages: Great lyrics, Great songs, Great Concept, Great Album
Disadvantages: You will become a lifelong fan of Cave, costing money,
...Murder Ballads is possibly Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds most well known album, partly thanks to the duet with Kylie Minogue, but mainly because it is one of the greatest albums ever released.
The concept was that each song would tell a tale of murder, amongst other subjects, and the addition of some guest stars playing the parts of different characters (PJ Harvey on "henry lee" and kylie on "where the wild roses grow") simply adds to the effect. It also finds Cave at his best lyrically, not only with his own brand new compositions, but also when taking traditional songs and giving them his own sadistic twist, as on what is possibly his heaviest and dirtiest ever song, "Stagger Lee".
When you take into account that all these tales are completely seperate, it is amazing how well the album flows together. The heavier tracks such as "The...

Nick Cave Doing What He Does Best
Advantages: Some Outstanding Tunes, some of Caves best works
Disadvantages: takes time to grow on you
...Nick Cave is probably one of the most critically aclaimed song writers of our era - and not without reason. Ever since his days with The Birthday Party he has been releasing album after album of stunning songs. Coming across like a dirtier Tom Waits at times (if that is possible?) and at others bringing you some beautiful love songs - he has always been moving forward creatively with his music.
The Lyre Of Orpheus / Abattoir Blues continues this journey. Double albums usually prove to be notoriously difficult to pull off, but this is definitely not a problem for Mr. Cave and his Bad Seeds. Each disc is packed with stunning stories of love, australian life, and even a spot of murder to keep the old school fans happy. It also provides Nick with one of his most commercial outings yet - in the form of first single from the album, "There...

Don't miss the Boat
Advantages: stunning lyrics, and melodies
Disadvantages: a couple of slightly weak tracks
...Looking back I've missed a number of seminal albums, as they passed me by. I remember being at Glastonbury in 1998 but don't remember seeing the wonderful Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, as I only knew him from his duet with Kylie Minouge ?Where the Wild Roses Grow?. Fast forward eleven years and his beautifully sublime album ?The Boatman Calls? is one of my most played albums. Released in 1997 The Boatmen Calls? is Cave's 10th studio album and very different from the ones that have come before such as the ?Murder Ballads? Gone are the tales of violence, instead we have Cave in a very mellow, reflective mood pondering on love, redemption, spirituality and his previous, often failed relationships. From laments and odes to P J Harvey (Black Hair, West Country Girl and Green Eyes) to the unravellings of his marriage (People Ain't no Good...

The Cave-man cometh...and he rocks!
Advantages: May be the most accessible album for new fans!
Disadvantages: May not be the most accessible album for new fans.
...Nick Cave has been gothing it up for the best part of three decades and shows little signs of giving up the (dark, chair-rattling, Old Testament thumping) ghost just yet.
His Birthday Party was at the forefront of punk, getting hyped for song titles as leftfield as ?Big Jesus Trash Can? when I was in short-trousers and listening to Pinky and Perky.
The Bad Seeds albums have seen the emergence of a mature, song-writing Cave, now more likely to get his kicks from a piano ballad than bone-crushing guitar noise.
But as his latest double album Abattoir Blue/The Lyre Of Orpheus shows, his healthy love for the darker side of the soul and the mysticism of God are as strong as ever.
And with velveteen song titles such as Cannibal?s Hymn, Fable Of The Brown Ape and O Children and lyrics to match he has lost none of his sly sense...

Dig this!
Advantages: Good songs are amazing!
Disadvantages: Couple of weak links!
...I'm shocked to see that this album hasn't been reviewed yet, it's one of the best albums so far this year and keeps Nick Cave in good form following the side-project with Grinderman (No Pussy Blues) which it actually has quite a lot in common with as keeps generally with a garage style throughout.
Dig Lazarus Dig is Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds 14th studio album and includes the line-up of
1 - Dig Lazarus Dig -
The album, first song and hit single Dig, Lazarus, Dig takes its name from Lazarus who according to the story in the bible was brought up from the grave by Jesus. Nick Cave claims to have always wanted to know how Lazarus felt about this and this song shows the situation from Lazarus's point of view and also brings it to New York.
Dig Lazarus Dig is a great song with quality lyrics and a superb hook line. 10/10

Morbidly Good
Advantages: Great vocals and lyrics
Disadvantages: Morbid subject matter
...An album titled 'Murder Ballads' is never going to be particularly cheery, but this collection of morbid songs is definitely worth a listen. A mixture of traditional murder ballads and songs written by Nick Cave himself, this unusual album displays a mastery of song writing and great vocal talent.
**Tracklist**
1. Song of Joy
2. Stagger Lee
3. Henry Lee
4. Lovely Creature
5. Where The Wild Roses Grow
6. The Curse of Millhaven
7. The Kindness of Strangers
8. Crow Jane
9. O'Malley's Bar
10. Death Is Not The End
1. Song of Joy (6:47): Like a lot of the tracks on this album, this is a story set to music. It tells the tale of a series of murders in a small town. Despite the morbid nature of the story being told, this is quite a pleasant song to listen to. Nick Cave's voice is very good, and he sings this well. The main...

Sing A Song Of Murder
Advantages: Great music and lyrics
Disadvantages: None
...Nick Cave first came to prominence in the wave of post-punk goth which spawned a mini-generation of black-clad teenagers obsessed with doom-and-gloom, fascinated with vampirism and the dark side of life (and death). A beanpole drugged maniac with scary eyes and an upturned nose who looked as though he was permanenly on heroin (he was) – Cave at the time looked like a likely candidate for an early obituary..
His transformation in the 90’s to becoming a crooner with street credibility left many puzzled but he was generally welcomed into the mainstream as an eccentric but real talent. A poet and a writer, he has settled nicely into the role of a putative successor to Leonard Cohen – with less romance and more “edge”. Indeed some of his last albums, particularly “And No More Shall We Part”, have...

The Goth-father is back!
Advantages: Beautiful songs, passionate music
Disadvantages: Not for sensitive wallflowers
...Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds ? Wolverhampton Civic
Nick Cave has been gothing it up for three decades and shows little signs of giving up the (dark, chain-rattling, Old Testament thumping) ghost just yet, thank God!
Successive Bad Seeds albums had seen the emergence of a more subdued beast, as likely to get high from a piano ballad than guitar grind, since kicking his Heroin habit.
But as his latest double album Abattoir Blues/The Lyre Of Orpheus shows, his healthy love for the darker side of the soul, death and mysticism and bone-crushing arrangement are strong as ever.
The double album, testament to his Jekyll and Hyde nature, made up the meat of the ballsy set, delivered by the antipodean Baritone from the gut, with frequent velveteen punches.
Blinders included single Nature Boy, the ballistic Get Ready For Love...
