...This is a brooding film full of subtle menace and half light, with a few shocks including a real popcorn-chucker which had the whole cinema out of their seats. Perhaps the fact that Tom Cruise is a producer didn't help. Her performance though is wonderful as a prim, grieving, deserted, slightly wasted and totally barmy housewife. They say that good actors can act with their eyes alone. Here, her eyes are bloodshoot thoughout as though she is perpetually on the edge of tears and the fear looks quite convincing. Nicole Kidman in The Others

Advantages: It has Nicole Kidman in it?! Excellent performances
Disadvantages: Unexpected twist may mean might not watch again

...Now, I am a big fan of Nicole Kidman and this is one of the main reasons that I actually went to the see the film. The film starts with a scene of Nicole lying in her bed and we see her wake up screaming.. Throughout the film Nicole portrays the role of a forgotten housewife left behind by her husband who went away to fight in the war. Nicole is left alone with two children to bring up who are allergic to sunlight and thus must be kept behind curtains at all times. 3 people turn up at the door of the manor to ask for work. There is then about another 30mins of atmospheric build up before the weird stuff starts happening. The children 'see' ghosts. Nicole rants and raves saying there are no such things until she also starts hearing and seeing things. One part in this film made me really jump, an old ladies face comes at you...

Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54

Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.

Unable to afford a Blu-Ray player my sister and I bought the Panasonic DVD-S54 to match our parents brand new Panasonic TX-32LZD80 LCD television as their Christmas 2008 present. Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied. On Christmas day when opened we found a relatively small box tightly packed with the player in polystyrene packaging. ...to go very loud!!!! A dial on the speaker sees to controlling the volume, which you can turn clockwise to make it go louder. To turn them off, you can turn it all the way anticlockwise until it clicks. When they are on, on the speaker with the dials, a red light is lit up. This is handy incase you forget to turn them off at night, as the red light will remind you. ~~~DURABILITY~~~ As I have had these type of speakers for such a long time they have certainly been through their share of tear and wear! They have been dropped off the table countless times and one speaker has a dent in the blue materialised section to prove it! Unfortunately Nicole's beginning to show her age, and the speakers do have some problems to go along with it (bear in mind this is after approx 8 years of working perfectly). Disadvantages: avoid like the plague if you are a beginner!

...Ok, firstly I have been a member of a yoga club for 2 years, and I wanted to try a DVD for practicing at home. I tried a few other DVDs, including the Geri yoga DVDs (avoid them!) and I found this one to be the best. The style of yoga is Ashtanga so its quite fast paced and you will probably break a sweat. The instructor, kate gives good instruction, she is not annoying at all but in my opinion, she should perhaps have spent a bit more time describing the poses more. The DVD is relaxing, it is shot in a big dance studio in Sydney. There are good breating exercises and the dvd comprises of sun salute and sitting and standing poses. There is a super abs section which you will really feel the next day! The extras are a bit useless, a behind the scenes section and a couple of interviews. Haven?t seen these units (or the manufacturers/suppliers name) mentioned anywhere else on the web which is a shame because they?re extremely good little speakers.
