Nigeria - Land of Internet Crime?
Advantages: Different
Disadvantages: Dangerous
...Nigeria, so many people have a bad view of people from this place, a typical example of the minority taring the majority, but for the few interent scammers, and fraudsters who use the country as a safe haven, you really should look beyond the cloak!
Nigeria, is a federal constitutional republic comprising thirty-six states and one Federal Capital Territory. The country is located in West Africa and shares land borders with the Republic of Benin in the west, Chad and Cameroon in the east, and Niger in the north. Its coast lies on the Gulf of Guinea, part of the Atlantic Ocean, in the south. The capital city is Abuja.
The country itself harbours many dangers, and as man who tends not to pay danger money to the would be mafia style hi-jackers who stop your jeep and threaten you with a sharpened coke can, I take most of them...

Lagos: the real capital of Nigeria!!!
Advantages: Bubbling city, pleasant places of interest
Disadvantages: Traffic Jams, over populated, police!!!
...It will be quite a challenge writing about this wonderful city, having lived there for many years. A very fast paced city it is and you certainly have to be tough and resilient to survive here.
Lagos was formerly the capital of Nigeria, which happens to be the most populated country in the whole of Africa. It is even said that one in every black person is a Nigerian. During the Military rule in the 80;s though, the capital was moved to Abuja, much further inland. Lagos is by the Atlantic ocean, on the south west of the country.
As any big metroplex would, it boasts of its highways, fly-overs, bridges, skyscrapers and the like. It has a population of perhaps 10million; perhaps because no one really knows the population. It tends to be more expensive than other parts of the country but virtually any large corporation that has any...

ABUJA- THE NEW AND IMPROVED LAGOS OF NIGERIA
Advantages: CLEAN, LOW CRIME, GOOD TOURIST ATTRACTION, STATE OF THE ART INFRASTRUCTURE
Disadvantages: RELATIVELY EXPENSIVE AND A DEVELOPING ENETERTAINMENT SCENE
...ABJ as the city is fondly called is the new and improved ?Lagos ?of Nigeria. ?Lagos? in the sense that it is the centre of all the hustle and bustle of Nigeria, in other words thee heart beat of the country.
However things are slowly changing as the not so new capital of Nigeria is becoming a force to be reckoned with.
Located in the centre of the country?s Middle Belt, Abuja is covered mainly with savannah grassland but there are patches of rainforest. There are two seasons, the hot and dry harmattan (November to March) and the rainy season (April to October). The weather is a bit peculiar as there have been hailstorms and extremities of temperatures within the same day; boiling hot in the day and very cold in the night almost like a desert. The weather can change at the drop of a hat.
The city is clean and not as densely...

Nigeria: Not even a Nation?
Advantages: A destination to impress your friends with
Disadvantages: Dangerous and unpleasant.
...The definition of a nation:
Nation n. A part, or division, of the people of the earth, distinguished from the rest by common descent, language, or institutions; a race; a stock.
With respect to the other two posters here, both of whom I suspect are Nigerian and possibly involved in the tourist industry, the Nigeria encountered by non-nigerians does not fulfill these criteria. Nigeria is as much a nation as Yugoslavia or Israel. It is divided by tribal differences which can, and do, often erupt into violence on all scales - from mass killings and gunfights through kidnappings to two individuals fighting in a bar.
I have visited Nigeria 3 times whilst employed by a survey company connected to the oil industry, aand although I went with an open mind, and have enjoyed time in Ivory Coast, Ghana, and Cameroon, Nigeria is a bit... well...

Nigeria - A nation ignored
Advantages: Hospitable people, Interesting tourist attractions to see, Potential business opportunities
Disadvantages: Lack of publicity, Incorrect Image, Ignored tourism potential
...Nigeria is located in West Africa. The country has a population of 110.000.000 plus. It generates most of its revenue from oil has a rich vegetation of agriculture.
There are three major languages in the country namely, yoruba, ibo, hausa. The country has remained secular, despite the predominant religions of cristianity and Islam. People of the country succesfully lived harmoniously with intermarriages within the two religions and cultures.
The country is blessed with the pictureskill with quite interesting places for touris visits. There is the cold and hot spring water for in Ondo State, The Olumo Rock in Ogun State, where you find large boulders of rock perching on the tip of a very high and sharp cliff. There is also the Yankari Game reserve in thr north.
Beatiful rivers and lakes cutting across the south, which is...

NIGERIA WE HAIL THEE
Advantages: Beautiful Diverse Country
Disadvantages: Negative attitudes
...I was living in Nigeria in the late 70s, I still remember so much. even the first lines of the national anthem
"Nigeria we hail thee, our own dear native land, though tribe and land may suffer,
in brotherhood we stand......"
Nigeria has suffered through the years from human conflicts about religion and territory. Historically large sectors of Africa were invaded and colonialised by the British. Then with a total British disregard for local african political and religious devisions, Nigeria and many other African countries were formed. Nigeria was a diverse mix religions and politics mainly Yoruba, Ibo and Hausa tribes, were some were farming cultures and others nomads. This has been a cauldron of mistrust and minor conflicts for many years. But they have OIL! and so Nigeria won its independance. All these years on Nigeria still...

England v Nigeria-this could be the one...
Advantages: Could put us through to last 16
Disadvantages: Nigeria could provide an upset
...England play their final group match against Nigeria on the 12th June, and if previous group results go our way, this could be the game that will put Sven's men into the world cup last 16.
The Nigerian squad has come a long way since the start of the 1990's. They have developed many young, talented stars and finished top of their CAF group to qualify for the world cup finals. Below is a table of their qualifying results.
Qualifying campaign
W 2-0 Sierra Leone (h) L 1-2 Liberia (a)
W 3-0 Sudan (h) D 0-0 Ghana (a)
L 0-1 Sierra Leone (a) W 2-0 Liberia (h)
W 4-0 Sudan (a) W 3-0 Ghana (h)
Nigeria qualified top of CAF group B, finishing with a 3-0 victory over Ghana. The two teams were accused of fixing and bribary, but both were cleared soon after. Their road was full of celebrations, close calls...

You've been where..??
Advantages: A place that your friends haven't been to!
Disadvantages: A very new destination..
...I've revised my review of Abuja, Nigeria for everyone.. I originally wrote it (plus 3-4 others) within a week of joining and didn't realise the format and protocol... hopefully I do now!
OK.. Abuja is the new capital of Nigeria, which if you're not sure is in West Africa... Basically very similar to the New York/Washington idea of cities, where Abuja is purely a government building city (like Washington) and the old capital Lagos is the bustling city (Like New York). Unlike Lagos which is on the sothern coast, Abuja is very much inland, and quite central to the country.
Everyone speaks English, of sorts, though it's worth picking up a few words of one of the local languages (There are three main local languages, and many many other tribal languages). They have a great phrase in Nigeria, which they use all the time! "You...

mr hillary
Advantages: Good chinese restuarants, people...
Disadvantages: travel, corruption, dangerous, accomodation, smell...
...are so dangerous and conjested that you have to allow hours for travel. Every journey is a nightmare as you narrowly avoid collisions, cars cutting in from every angle. Black smoke bellows from poorly maintained trucks, lorries and cars. Most of the vehicles are terribly un-road worthy for instance having to pull over when it rains as they don't have wind screen wipers. Your lucky to find a lorry with all of its wheels!! People are hanging off the back and sides of taxis, they are battered yellow minibuses rammed full of people.
Everyone smells and it can make you feel quite sick.
A white person in Nigeria is a target for all, unless your constanty around the upper crust of society any form of gesture will expect to be repayed in naira. Its best to do things urself trust me. A safe hotel will cost you $300. We stay in a compound...

NOW IT STARTS TO GET SERIOUS
Advantages: Group safely negotiated, the real stuff starts now, Rio Ferdinand - IMMENSE
Disadvantages: Danger signals, but it was the result that was important, HESKEY, not sure
...We've done it!!!!!!!!!!!!! We made it through the 'Group of Death' and now play Denmark on Saturday in the last 16. Whether the World Cup will indeed be 'coming home' in 2002 - we still have to see.
But ...a word or three of caution. Today's game against Nigeria had more than it's fair share of worrying moments. And England, despite the current wave of optimism sweeping our fair land, still have some issues to sort out.
So, first of all, today.
Maybe they did have their bags packed ready for the flight home, but the 'Super Eagles' certainly ruffled England's feathers in the opening half hour didn't they?. Time after time, our defence was carved open by astute passing from JJ Okocha (Spurs bound in the Summer, maybe?)and some nice runs along the right from Udeze. Two good point plank saves by David Seaman and some immensely...
