Nikon D40x
Advantages: Quality Pictures, Easy to use, Compact
Disadvantages: Price but still worth it for a decent camera
...the Nikon D40x it had everything we wanted including a sport mode which was the main feature I wanted, as border collies don't keep still for very long!
Me knowing absolutely nothing about digital SLR cameras was just happy to have a cool new camera get it home and try it out.
** The Nikon D40x Features **
*Auto-Focus
Just like the previous model (D40) this camera has an auto focus feature all though it does not have a built in focus drive motor, so only works with lenses that have their own built in drive motor, suitable lenses for this feature are AF-S and AF-I lenses.
The auto focus is brilliant for fast moving dogs and cars and anything else that moves so you can get pictures quickly, features of the auto focus include?
Three area TTL phase detection, Nikon Multi-CAM530 auto focus module
Detection range: EV -1 to +19

Nikon D40x
Advantages: Small, feature packed, easy to use, Built in Help system, auto and scene modes
Disadvantages: only three AF points, manual not so good
...we can see the result straight away.
I should say that I am not a professional photographer, more an amateur who wanted to get his hands on a Digital SLR and see what he could do. So this review will be from an average joe.
I was originally going to purchase a Pentax K100d as it was the cheapest DSLR around and with anti shake, even though the Canon 400d and Nikon D40x did seem to be the market leaders. I then found that the K100d had been superceded by the K100d Super and the price had gone up closer to the canon and Nikon.
I spotted an offer at Currys of a Nikon D40x with 18-55mm lense for £405 plus a 55-300mm nikon lense for an extra £30 and on top of that buy now (with no deposit) pay next september. I couldn't resist. I am glad the offer came around because in the end I think I would have had to upgrade the 6MP Pentax...

Nikon Coolpix L10
Advantages: Easy to use, most pictures come out good, value for money, look, durability, size and weight.
Disadvantages: Some pictures come out blurred.
...My first digital camera is this, the Nikon Coolpix L10.
PICTURE QUALITY
Some pictures come out good, and some come out blurry. I find 72% of my pictures come out non-blurry.
RANGE & QUALITY OF FEATURES
You can change the colour, the white balance, if there should be a continous shot, you can also change the flash. I find the amount of features great.
EASE OF USE
I find this camera very easy to set up, very easy to take a photo with and it's easy all round.
DURABILITY
The camera doesn't get scratched easily, it can get a tiny bit smugy but that's it. No major damage for mine!
OVERALL LOOK & DESIGN
The camera looks so standard but it shows off its shiny silverness when you put it next to other cameras.
VALUE FOR MONEY
You can buy this from Amazon for £104.75. I think this is great value for money!
RELIABILITY
I can mainly...

Nikon D50
Advantages: Easy to use, excellent picture quality, built to last, long battery life.
Disadvantages: No memory card supplied.
...an excellent piece of kit for the price.
6.1 megapixels sounds tiny in today's more-is-better world where 10 or even 12 megapixels is becoming the standard. However I was told at the time of purchase, and can now put my hand on my heart and attest to the fact that megapixels mean nothing. A photograph taken in RAW format or Large Fine JPEG with this camera can produce great-looking prints up to 20x30cm and beyond. I personally have prints around my house from photographs taken with the D50, and they quality is absolutely outstanding.
The D50 has no onboard memory and a memory card is not included in the package upon purchase. However, it uses SD memory cards, by far the cheapest memory option available for digital cameras. I bought a 1GB SD card which on which I can store 288 pictures taken in Large Fine JPEG format; these cards are available...

Nikon D40x DSLR
Advantages: Compact for an SLR, easy to use, excellent picture quality.
Disadvantages: Battery life only allows 1000ish photos to be taken
...a 10mp CCD instead of just 6mp.
I had a play with the Canon EOS 500d and the Nikon D40x and decided that the D40x was a far nicer camera to hold and use and wasn't much more expensive (only about £20).
Whilst I was in the store I decided it worthwhile (being as they would also work out cheapers) to purchase a few accessories for the camera:
Lense Filter (UV) basically to stop anything damaging the lense, it's cheaper to buy a filter for a few £'s than a whole new lense.
Tripod, I love taking night shots and timed exposures so this was vital.
Accessory bag, big enough for any additional items in the future and lalso a smaller regular digital camera.
2gb Memory card, enough for 600+ photos
Lense hood, for sunny days.
Lense cleaning cloth, don't want to damage any of the expensive glass!
After we'd paid for the camera...

Nikon D40X
Advantages: Light, over 10mp, takes SD cards
Disadvantages: Limited lens choice.
...My return to SLR photography after two "compact" digital cameras. THe D40x is amazingly light compared with my previous 35mm SLRs. The basic auto prgrammes are pretty well foolproof, you really have to be doing something stupid not to get decent results with this camera.
What made me go for it .... 10.8 mp , takes SD cards, cheaper than the D80.
If you go for the manual settings then you have to know what you are doing. The instruction manual is precise and fairly comprehensive. It does take a bit of reading and experimentation with the various settings. I have read quite a few reviews in the photography press and in general the D40x has been well received.
I bought the Nikon "kit" which comprised the body, an 18-55mm lens and a 55-200mm lens all for less than £500 which I reckon was a good deal. There are still plently...

NIKON D40X- An amazing piece of technology!
Advantages: Incredible quality, infininate features, decent price
Disadvantages: not as easy to transport as a compact.
...The Nikon D40x is a must have for all budding photographers! My favourite hobby is photography and I am also a digital media student, and therefore the photography equipment I buy is very important to me.
I have owned this product now for ten months and I never leave home without it! Nikky, as she is know to me (sad I know!), goes everywhere with me, shooting many different scenes.
The Nikon D40x is a digital SLR camera, therefore using the old fashioned use of lenses, but produces incredible results compared to normal digital cameras...i.e compact digital cameras.
The Nikon D40x comes with a rechargeable battery, which simply slots into the supplied charger and charges by the main. They also come with a neck strap, to avoid the fear of dropping.
The main disadvantage that some people may find with this product is the size...

Dell Axim X50v PDA of Power
Advantages: Screen, graphics, wireless range
Disadvantages: Battery life, viewing angles
...will remedy it. Downloading files is also a little gripe as when you click on a file, it doesn't always come up with a dialogue asking you where you wish to save the file, and instead saves it on internal memory. What if I was downloading a massive file which internal memory cannot handle?
Thanks to abdrewawolfe, I noticed another lacking feature and that is a built-in camera like on the LOOX 720. Thing is, the camera on the LOOX is only a 1.3MP and I tested it myself finding the quality to be less than average indoors. Outdoors it is better, but I still think that PDAs don't need a digicam built into it. Another thing with the LOOX720 and x50v is the availability of stylus' you can buy for it. The Fujitsu Siemens LOOX 720 you can buy a triple stylus pack for a relatively cheap price of around £10 - £15. The X50v though could set you over...

Nikon D50
Advantages: Can be used as an SLR and a basic point and shoot Camera
Disadvantages: Need photoshop software to change the colour of the photo
...I brought the Nikon D50 because I wanted to learn how to use an SLR camera, while also being able to just point and shoot when I didn't have the time to concentrate on setting up the shot. This camera is excellent at both. It produces high quality photographs in both situations - I regualrly use pictures I have taken with this camera as backgrounds on my 19 inch computer screen and the picture quality remains excellent - no fuzzy dots!
If you want to learn about SLR's and play around with the focus and aperture, this camera is an excellent starting point, and it has the added bonus of being able to take excellent everyday photos in a basic point and shoot mode so others who don't want to get into the more technical and artistic side of Photography will also be able to use this camera with great ease.
One minor compliant I have is...

The nikon 50mm 1.8 - a fantastic portrait lens
Advantages: great quality, low price, prime
Disadvantages: none
...As anyone interested in photography will know - lenses don't come cheap, especially quality lens, except this one.
The 50mm 1.8 has a reputation for quality at a reasonable price and it's a reputation well deserved.
Yes the 50mm is a 'small' lens but it's a prime lens.
Some may find that the need for them to move forwards or backwards to get the correct composition for a photograph is too irritating to make the purchase worthwhile over that of a zoom lens but the increase of quality combined with the price makes that an opinion that I beg to differ.
If you shoot portraits, or are looking to start then the 50mm 1.8 will prove an invaluable piece of equipment, but it's uses are not limited to portraits only.
At 1.8 the 50mm is a fast lens however it dies have a counterpart - the 50mm 1.4. The 1.4 is, by comparison, alot more expensive...
