Nikon Super Coolscan 9000 ED a design success.
Advantages: high quality scans, large files, robust and intelligently designed.
Disadvantages: None.
...The Nikon Super Coolscan 9000 ED is a brilliantly designed multi- format film scanner aimed at professionals but I would seriously recommend it for anyone passionate about photography. It is a joy to use.
It scans 35mm, Medium format 120/220, 6x6, 6x7, 6x9 (cm) and 16mm size films. Excellent results with black and white, colour negative and slide film in all the available above formats.
The price for the Nikon Super Coolscan 9000 ED is around £1800 to £2200. Compared to the Imacon range of Flextight scanners which can be anything around £5000 to £12000 the Nikon Coolscan 9000 ED price is instantly more attractive but what about quality?
The Nikon Coolscan produces images that are certainly good enough for professional, commercial and archival uses and fine art exhibiting purposes.
If you use Photoshop and have a good...

A great scanner - shame about the interface.
Advantages: Superb quality images and amazing ICE dust removal
Disadvantages: Poor user interface & price (especially for the optional APS adaptor)
...I bought this scanner last year, having finally got round to sorting out our wedding photos. We'd decided not to bother with a professional photographer and instead asked everyone to send us the negatives of their own photos. In the meantime, my old 35mm camera died, and I had decided to get a digital camera. What a revelation. I then decided that the only sensible way to sort out and edit our wedding photos was to get the negatives scanned into digital format.
After a fair bit of research, I finally decided to get the Nikon Super Coolscan 5000 ED. All the reviews I read suggested a good balance between cost and performance, and I can confirm this.
The scanner cost $1065 or about £600 from a US company called Cameta Camera who were selling the scanner new on ebay.
When it arrived, it was very easy to install and get working...

Nikon D90 - My Next 'Last' Camera
Advantages: Movies, LiveView, 12.3 mpixels, build quality, excellent lens range
Disadvantages: Still quite bulky for casual use. Expensive if that's all you want it for
...There?s been a legion of digital cameras that have passed through my hands since they started to become a serious contender for 35mm?s domination of the amateur market. Going from memory, they?ve included Philips, Casio, Canon, Nikon and errr?..Nikon. Of course the last one, my first DSLR, a Nikon D70 was going to be the last; but then we all say that don?t we, lads?
What I really meant was ?the last for quite a while?.
LOOKS LIKE THE ?QUITE A WHILE? HAS EXPIRED
Then my daughter started making noises about a night-school class in photography, where the minimum kit requirement just so happened to be a DSLR, and I got to thinking about letting her have the D70 for a ?song?, whilst good ol? Dad treats himself to the later and much higher-specified D90.
Since I bought the D70 four or five years back, things have moved on apace...

A Scanner Darkly
Advantages: Good Special Effects
Disadvantages: Not many
..."A Scanner Darkly" is based on the novel by Philip K Dick. Richard Linklater's film stars Keanu Reeves as undercover narcotics policeman; Bob Arctor. This is an interesting film but it didn't really move me deeply. There was some good acting but the story line was simply not exceptional. On deep reflection it is not a film that I would recommend. But if you want to watch it do so at your own risk.

Great Scanner
Advantages: good quality scanning
Disadvantages: software is rubbish, can take for ever to scan an image
...I bought myself this to scan various things (old photos, documents and some sheet music) and this does the job pretty well. It was a bit on the expensive side but I needed something that would give me good quality and I could trust that it would work well so I went for HP as they are well known for good quality products.
TECHNICAL INFORMATION
It can scan at up to 4,800 dpi (dots per inch)
It has 96 bit colour
It has a 216x311mm scanning screen
Connects by USB
It is 303x508x108mm (wxdxh)
It weighs 5.2 kg
So it can give you very good quality, it gets a lot of colours, it's got a decent sized scanning screen, it's pretty big and it's not a light weight utility. There is nothing in there to put me off though because I still bought it.

My experience of the Nikon D90 as an amateur photographer.
Advantages: Excellent picture quality, lots of useful features, well designed controls, great kit lens
Disadvantages: More expensive than some other DSLRs, quite big and heavy, limited movie mode
... How I made my choice
I recently bought the D90 to upgrade from my Olympus 560UZ bridge camera, so this is my first foray into DSLR photography. Most people starting in DSLR photography will opt for the cheaper D40, or the D60, D70 and D80. I am not particularly rich, and in the end chose the D90 because I didn't want to grow out of the smaller DSLR and have to buy a new body quickly. I have found that the prices of Nikon DSLRs haven't decreased significantly over the last 3 years, so I decided (maybe wrongly) that this option would save me money in the long run. I found that it is very important to go into a shop and hold the camera in your hands before making a choice. All the photography shop assistants said that the Canon series was just as good as the Nikons, but I discounted them because I didn't get on with the feel...

No need for Digital, Film can be seen on PC too
Advantages: Quick and Easy to use
Disadvantages: None
...This device is for anyone using a film camera but want there images on PC without purchasing a digital camera. So you can still use the same camera you have used for all those years. Also with the negatives you have kept from years back you can put them onto PC. Its quick and easy to use, just put the film in and it scans it through.
The Nikon Coolscan IV ED offers an ultimate in professional film scanning technology. It is a desktop scanner which offers a super-fast throughput when scanning 35mm strip film or mounted 35mm slides at upto 2900 dpi optical resolution. That means it produces an image on the PC of in excess of 12 megapixels from a 35mm frame, which means you can create an image which can be printed onto an A3 page in full photo quality. Digital ICE technology is built in, it consists of Digital IC (Image Correction...

Lets Slide into Scanning
Advantages: Exceptional Quality of Image, Worth its money
Disadvantages: Takes time to get used to controls.
...The Nikon Super Coolscan 4000 ED is a one of the highest quality slide/film scanners around at an affordable price. It scans at a maximum resolution of 4000 dpi (dots per inch; therefore the higher the resolution the better picture quality) and has many features, which we will look at in more detail.
I ordered my Nikon Super Coolscan 4000 ED online at WarnersImaging.co.uk. At the time of purchase, which was February 2003, it cost me £958.81 inclusive of Vat. This was one of the cheapest places that I could find it. I would definitely recommend shopping around though, as some stores were selling it for as high as £1200.
THE PACKAGE
From WarnersImaging.co.uk I got the following items, but remember that different stores may provide a different package. Its worthwhile emailing them to enquire as to what exactly you get for the price...

A Scanner Darkly
Advantages: Very Stylistic, gerat soundtrack
Disadvantages: difficult to follow
...Having read Philip K Dicks book, A Scanner Darkly, I was eagerly awaiting the film adaptation. Upon hearing that George Clooney had optioned it no less, and that Richard Linklater was down to direct it I was kind of ecstatic. I have a lot of respect for George Clooney, following his efforts to turn out less main stream Hollywood films, in favour of thought provoking and interesting films. So when I heard that Keanu Reeves had go the lead role as Bob Arctor, my heart sank.
To be fair to Reeves, his last couple of films have been stinkers. Matrix Reloaded and Revolutions were not bad down to his acting, more to the clunky direction of the Wachowski Brothers. But the lead character for A Scanner Darkly, in my opinion would always have needed someone who had a half decent range, and not someone who cam across as a bit of an airhead...

A super cool review of the Nikon Coolpix
Advantages: Looks good, durable and a good range of user interactive settings.
Disadvantages: Not the most vivid of colour capture and a few other problems (see review).
...As a professional photographer who is used to using top of the range DSLR cameras, I often worry that I will be a little harsh on simple point and shoot cameras when asked to give my opinion on them. Last week when I was asked to test the Nikon Coolpix S560 and give my opinion on it for my camera club, I was determined to do so with an open mind because as well as thinking I can be harsh on point and shoots, I am also not Nikon`s biggest fan.
The Nikon Coolpix S560 is the latest in a range of Nikon point and shoot digital cameras and a direct step up from the Coolpix S550. In my opinion this was released a bit quickly after the S550 and it makes me wonder if Nikon were ever truly happy with the 550 that they felt the need to release its successor within just a few months of it being released itself.
In the camera market however...
