...I purchased this camera in April, 2008, and I am glad I did ! I purchased a 'kit' package which included the D80 body and a 18 - 135 mm AL lense. The kit does not come with a memory card which has to be purchased seperately. After charging the battery I had the camera functioning in a matter of seconds. It is almost instantaneously ready for use when you switch it on which is excellent. With it switched to auto mode it functions just like a point and shoot camera - just depress the shutter button halfway, wait for the autofocus to happen ( normally a second or less ) then click ! But it is far more than a point and shoot camera - there are a multitude of settings that can be user defined ensuring that the the camera can be used by a novice to the experienced digital photographer. Advantages: High quality sensor, fast, responsive, it's a Nikon!

...This is my first Digital SLR camera and have found it to be very good overall. The 10.2 megapixel sensor records very fine pictures especially when set to 100 ISO. Noise or grain gets quite noticeable when set to 800 ISO and above but still usable up to 1600. The D80 is fast and responsive and has Shutter priority, Aperture priority, Manual and loads of Program modes which I never use. The viewfinder is bright and clear and the playback screen is very good. The minor drawbacks are: 1.Erratic light meter, but easy to compensate. 2. No ISO reading in viewfinder. Easy to forget to change to desired ISO. 3. I often change between single frame, multi frame and self timer and find this button awkward 'cos it is recessed. 4. Only 95% viewfinder coverage....

The d80 - getting old but a good camera for competitive price

Advantages: low price, uses SD cards, not as heavy as the higher end dslrs, shoots RAW, inbuilt flash

...The nikon d80 is a few years old now and has been replaced by a newer model (the d90). As such it is possible to get a d80 for a very competitive price whilst still maintaining the image quality you desire and expect from a dslr. While the d80 is not a 'top of the range' dslr, and was never designed to be, it is none the less excellent at what it does - the image quality is, generally speaking, very good although in low light conditions images are a little noisier than may be desired when upping the ISO to avoid the use of flash. The d80 also provides the ability to shoot in a number of jpeg quality settings as well as NEF (nikons version of RAW) or NEF+ jpeg fine, which gives the user great versatility. The Energizer Battery Charger

Advantages: Good value for money

.... This charger was on offer. The normal RRP being £17.99. The charger came with four AA size Energizer 2500mAH batteries. These were the same size of battery that I required for my camera. My camera however only requires two batteries so I thought that this would be ideal as I could always have a spare set of fully charged batteries with me when I was out and about with my camera. This charger comes packaged in a thick plastic packet that was moulded around the shape of the charger. This packaging is transparent so you can see what you are buying before you part with your money. The charger itself is rather modern looking and very compact. It is also very lightweight and weighs only 132g. Size wise it measures just 80cm long by 10cm wide and it is less than 3cm thick. The prongs of the plug are moulded into the design of the charger...

I bought this charger last year because I bought a wireless mouse and keyboard so made more sense getting rechargeable batteries rather than spending money on normal batteries every few weeks. I went with Uniross as they make decent rechargeable batteries and are well known for it. This x-press 300 charges AAA, AA & 9V size batteries. It lets you charge 2 or 4 AA/AAA and one 9V batteries of the same type at the same time. It's suitable for AA, AAA and 9V (PP3) NiCd and NiH batteries. To use AAA batteries you simply flip down a little holder within the charger and it will hold the AAA batteries to charge.
