...There?s been a legion of digital cameras that have passed through my hands since they started to become a serious contender for 35mm?s domination of the amateur market. Going from memory, they?ve included Philips, Casio, Canon, Nikon and errr?..Nikon. Of course the last one, my first DSLR, a Nikon D70 was going to be the last; but then we all say that don?t we, lads? What I really meant was ?the last for quite a while?. LOOKS LIKE THE ?QUITE A WHILE? HAS EXPIRED Then my daughter started making noises about a night-school class in photography, where the minimum kit requirement just so happened to be a DSLR, and I got to thinking about letting her have the D70 for a ?song?, whilst good ol? Dad treats himself to the later and much higher-specified D90. Since I bought the D70 four or five years back, things have moved on apace...

Review of VTech Kidizoom Camera Pink

My experience of the Nikon D90 as an amateur photographer.

Advantages: Excellent picture quality, lots of useful features, well designed controls, great kit lens
Disadvantages: More expensive than some other DSLRs, quite big and heavy, limited movie mode

... How I made my choice I recently bought the D90 to upgrade from my Olympus 560UZ bridge camera, so this is my first foray into DSLR photography. Most people starting in DSLR photography will opt for the cheaper D40, or the D60, D70 and D80. I am not particularly rich, and in the end chose the D90 because I didn't want to grow out of the smaller DSLR and have to buy a new body quickly. I have found that the prices of Nikon DSLRs haven't decreased significantly over the last 3 years, so I decided (maybe wrongly) that this option would save me money in the long run. I found that it is very important to go into a shop and hold the camera in your hands before making a choice. All the photography shop assistants said that the Canon series was just as good as the Nikons, but I discounted them because I didn't get on with the feel...

Nikon D80 - Digital SLR Camera - Money well spent.

Advantages: Range of Nikon "F" lenses, Great picture quality, Endless amount of features!!!
Disadvantages: Price!

...2 1/2 years ago Nikon announced the six megapixel D70, their first affordable enthusiasts digital SLR, it proved to be a very popular camera and strong competitor to the Canon EOS 300D. Just a year and 1/2 later Nikon revealed the D70s which was essentially the same camera with a some subtle tweaks (improved AF, wider flash coverage, higher capacity battery, larger LCD monitor). And so just over 1 year on from the D70s Nikon present the latest incarnation of their 'enthusiasts' digital SLR line, the ten megapixel D80. This is how companies get you in the net - bring out a product costing £750 and then release a new model in 12 months time costing the same - you then kick yourself wishing you'd waited and like some people wanting the best, they sell thier old model for £400 and buy the new model. Now thinking they have the best...

Nikon D40 SLR camera

...I have owned the D40 for about six months. I bought my first Digital camera about 10 years ago.,It was primitive and slow; I was not impressed. Since then I have used several other digi cameras belonging to friends as they improved and developed, A friend of mine told me of the Nikon D40 so I checked it out at the local camera shop. I was impressed and bought one. Since then I have taken a great number of pictures with it, with the original lense and two others I have added. I consider it to be a fine instrument, suitable for any photographic situation ,speed, portrate,whatever, and consider it to be well worth the purchase price All in all a camera for the photographer. The camera is lightweight to use , smart in appearance and has a usefull strap which is quickly detachable. The lense supp[ied in the kit is adequate...

Nikon D40 SLR Camera

Advantages: A superb camera
Disadvantages: None

...Had done a lot of photography over the years, both 35mm and medium format, up to about 15 years ago when work commitments took over. About 4 years ago decided to start up again with a digital "point and shoot", then progressed to a 6mp Nikon "point and shoot". Finally decided it was time to move up to a DSLR, did a lot of research and went for the D40 - Why ? Firstly, the name: If it says Nikon on it, it is a quality camera - nuff said ! Why did I go for a camera with ONLY 6 mp ? Because there is more rubbish talked about the number of pixels in a camera than there is about anything else. You only need to go to 8/10/12 mp if you are making VERY large prints or have to do a lot of cropping, OR, if you just want to boast about the number of megapixels you have ! Having bought the camera, what do I think of it ? - it is superb...

The Nikon D40, simply the perfect SLR camera

...This is my first ever SLR digital camera and i love it! I would recommend to anyone who enjoys photography or not. Its a good hold, perfect picture quality and its perfect for the price. You can buy some SLR cameras which are expensive, but you could gain alot more from just buying a Nikon D40! Has a good clear colour LCD screen, powerful flash, easy to access memory and battery, comes supplied with everything you need to start you off. I've been told that Canon are good makes, but to be honest, the picture quality i think is so much better on this camera, plus this camera is only a 6 megapixels, so am guessing the Nikon D40x which is a 10 megapixel camera, is proberbly the best camera around at the moment! I would buy any Nikon camera again, no dout....

Review of Nikon D40

Brilliant camera for the money well worth it very versatile

Advantages: large resolution, great photos, easy to use, great battery life, great fun!
Disadvantages: obviously its not a £2000 plus camera

...I bought this camera June 5th 2009, it cost me close to £900 but so far has been worth every penny!. im sure if you have got to the point of reading this review you are well aware of the specs if not thats the best place to start. while looking for a DSLR I looked at this and the 2 other price range competitors the Canon EOS 500D and the other Nikon D5000. this was a very hard choice I found that while playing around with all 3 in shops the D90 had the best video, and more vibrant pictures than the Canon. but that still left me with the two nikons the only thing that separated them in my books was the screens the larger screen on this D90 or the smaller lower resolution on the D5000. and as i like to take lots of photos and look at them i went for the D90. I have never looked back. I use the Camera for taking the normal photos holiday...

Canon IXUS 95 IS: The best amateur digital camera on the market

Advantages: Very high quality pictures for both print and web work.
Disadvantages: The bundled software that comes with it has a very Fisherprice feel about it.

...After reading many reviews on Amazon and amateur camera sites about the different types of hobbyist level digital cameras, I decided to buy one of these. The camera itself has a metal casing and so has a sleek feel and look to it. It's very light weight and compact making it very easy to carry around in a handbag or while, (and most importantly) taking pictures! I found that it took only 5 - 10 minutes to get the camera working from out of the box. It was so simple, I didn't take that much notice of the manual. When starting up the camera, it isn't slow like they digital cameras of yesteryear. Its ability to capture anything in an instant is one of it's many advantages. The photos it and you produce are very high quality, as I found out the other day when I had some printed off at home. The only downside is the bundled software...

Canon Digital IXUS 80 IS -nice little camera

Advantages: Nice little pocket camera with all the necessary features
Disadvantages: Can't really think of anything

...I am not an expert on digital cameras and this is just the second one I bought. So I cannot really compare the Ixus 80 with other cameras. Nevertheless, I really like it. Looks The Lxus 80 comes in Classic Silver, Caramel, Chocolate and Candy Pink in an aluminium body. It is small enough to fit in a pocket and can be tacken anywhere with no problems. As far as I can say it is very reliable and does brilliant pictures for a normal user. Features It works with 8 megapixels .The 3x zoom works for all the general snapshot moments. It comes with an Image Stabilization (IS moniker) to reduce camera shake. As far as I know this is not standard on all cameras yet, but becomes more normal in newer models. The lens is glass, so it?s definitely an advantage towards cameras with a plastic lens. You can certainly see that in the quality...
