The standard lens on any Nikon cropped camera (DX)
Advantages: Light, fast focus, very good image quality, scrumtious bokeh; cheap to buy
Disadvantages: none
...standard means. The 50mm on a full frame camera 24x36mm looks the most natural and has established itself as 'the lens'. Now 35mm isn't 50mm. So why standard lens?
DX camera bodies have a sensor that's 1.5x smaller than the 24x36mm. Hence you need to multiply 35 x 1.5 and the result is 52mm. That makes it the equivalent standard lens on any cropped camera NIkon bodies.
You also have the choice...

A fantastic camera from Nikon!
Advantages: Almost everything!
Disadvantages: Glare from the screen is a pain, the camera is fairly large and a bit heavy - see review for full
...and it is a slightly shiny black finish to it. It has the ?nikon? printed on the front and it has some of the tech specs of the camera on the side of the lens. I don?t really like that it has this information on it as I think it makes the camera look less professional and makes it looks cheaper. I probably would be able to take off the sticker, but it may ruin the appearance of the camera in my opinion...
