Nikon D90 - My Next 'Last' Camera

Advantages: Movies, LiveView, 12.3 mpixels, build quality, excellent lens range
Disadvantages: Still quite bulky for casual use. Expensive if that's all you want it for

...There?s been a legion of digital cameras that have passed through my hands since they started to become a serious contender for 35mm?s domination of the amateur market. Going from memory, they?ve included Philips, Casio, Canon, Nikon and errr?..Nikon. Of course the last one, my first DSLR, a Nikon D70 was going to be the last; but then we all say that don?t we, lads? What I really meant was ?the last for quite a while?. LOOKS LIKE THE ?QUITE A WHILE? HAS EXPIRED Then my daughter started making noises about a night-school class in photography, where the minimum kit requirement just so happened to be a DSLR, and I got to thinking about letting her have the D70 for a ?song?, whilst good ol? Dad treats himself to the later and much higher-specified D90. Since I bought the D70 four or five years back, things have moved on apace...

Review of Nikon D90

My experience of the Nikon D90 as an amateur photographer.

Advantages: Excellent picture quality, lots of useful features, well designed controls, great kit lens
Disadvantages: More expensive than some other DSLRs, quite big and heavy, limited movie mode

... How I made my choice I recently bought the D90 to upgrade from my Olympus 560UZ bridge camera, so this is my first foray into DSLR photography. Most people starting in DSLR photography will opt for the cheaper D40, or the D60, D70 and D80. I am not particularly rich, and in the end chose the D90 because I didn't want to grow out of the smaller DSLR and have to buy a new body quickly. I have found that the prices of Nikon DSLRs haven't decreased significantly over the last 3 years, so I decided (maybe wrongly) that this option would save me money in the long run. I found that it is very important to go into a shop and hold the camera in your hands before making a choice. All the photography shop assistants said that the Canon series was just as good as the Nikons, but I discounted them because I didn't get on with the feel...

A super cool review of the Nikon Coolpix

Advantages: Looks good, durable and a good range of user interactive settings.
Disadvantages: Not the most vivid of colour capture and a few other problems (see review).

..., you need to give Nikon the benefit of the doubt because they have been producing great cameras since before time itself it would seem. In this day and age when you can buy mobile phones with 8 megapixel cameras built in it is hardly surprising that we are seeing tiny cameras like this S560 from Nikon with 10 megapixel resolution and 5 times optical zooms but we must not be fooled by all this. Buying a camera should never be based on megapixels alone, take this ten megapixel point and shoot and put it up against a six megapixel DSLR and the DSLR will win hands down every time, this is simply down to the quality of the glass (lens). All that said, Nikon have upped the qualityof the lens since the earlier Coolpix models as well as giving it a larger screen on the rear and including a decent image stabilisation, which has gone on to make...

Nikon D80 DSLR + 18-135mm Nikkor lens

Advantages: perfect grip, large prismatic viewfinder
Disadvantages: doesn't have internal memory

...factor is 1.5x. The 2.5 inch TFT LCD allows you to browse the pictures, shows information about used exposure settings, shows RGB histogram and other info about the pictures. It also allows you to go through the menu to change general settings. A small monochrome display on the top right side shows exposition settings, thanks to which you don't need to use the big LCD, which saves battery power. I also find it very comfy to see the settings just looking down at the camera without needing to turn it to look at the big display as the camera is kind of heavy and this saves a lot of wrist exercise. Viewfinder uses a prism that magnifies by 0.94, is very clear and bright. Besides exposure settings (excluding ISO value and also live histogram doesn't show, unfortunately) it shows how many pictures can you still take, exposure correction...

Light as the Air, Nikon D60

Advantages: Very small and light, wide range of Nikon lenses
Disadvantages: Slow Autofocus

... Nikon D60 The Camera Itself Here it is, the slightly higher than entry level digital SLR from Nikon. On paper it seems very similar to many other similar priced cameras. So in this review, I dig a little deeper to see if there is enough difference to put you out of pocket. First thing you will notice is the size of the body. It is impressively small, very good for travel photography and in general circumstances. The bodies? grip will fit the contours of your hand well even if you have large hands, like myself. The 10.2 megapixel sensor is expected, but possibly may have benefited from upping to 12 megapixels or more. As beginner to enthusiast photographers develop they will be left wanting more pixels to suffice their needs. The manufacturers? website states it also includes, ?Active D-Lighting.? This is said to...

Nikon D80 - Superb Prosumer DSLR

Advantages: Image quality and build quality
Disadvantages: Lots of noise at high ISO

...at the beginning of this review the D80 is heavily based around the D200 and inherits features such as the 10.2 Megapixel sensor (the device which captures the image), 11 Autofocus zones, 2.5" LCD review screen, the EN-EL3e battery system and the ISO range of 100 - 1600 (upto 3200 with ISO boost) Where the D80 differs from the D200 is on the following; - A plastic outer shell (instead of the D200's metal one) - 3 FPS continuous shooting capability (instead of 5 FPS) - A SD/SDHC memory card slot (instead of the CF slot found on the D200) - The D50s metering sensor Usability The D80 is heavy enough to feel solid in the hand however it is not too heavy that you start to get fatigue in your arm and hand muscles after pro-longed use. The buttons are laid out in a logical fashion (for existing Nikon users!) and once you've got used to their...

Nikon D80 - Digital SLR

Advantages: Quality Lenses, High level imaging, good all rounder as an SLR
Disadvantages: Heavy and large to handle.

... Nikon D80 Digital SLR As with my reviews, I will assume you will go to find the detailed technical specifications of the camera from a dedicated site, and are relying on a 'real life' and 'lived with it' opinion. Please refer to Nikon.com for detailed specs. The D80 is somewhere between a consumer and professional range of camera. Typically you are getting the technology that was utilised on the professional D200 camera on a mid-range camera today. This is part of the inevitable technological advances, where today's top of the range options become tomorrow's bread and butter. The 10.2 Megapixel sensor means that you can generally enlarge pictures to over A3 size, without worrying about quality loss. What is an SLR? Are not all digital cameras the same? The camera is an SLR (Single Lens Reflex). This uses...

Nikon

Advantages: slimline, attractive, simple to use
Disadvantages: poor zoom, no battery life indicator

...The Nikon Coolpix S210 is a lightweight, slim, compact digital camera available for under a hundred pounds. Its simple design means that it easily fits into a pocket or handbag, or the included wrist strap can be used to carry it around. The screen is a genorous 2.5 inches which makes viewing easy. The Nikon S210 comes with a lithium battery plus charger which saves those agonising moments of realising you need to nip out and buy more batteries. Unfortunately, this camera does not have a battery life indicator which could be very painful if you don't carry an extra battery. The optical zoom on this camera is a poor 3x optical zoom or 4x digital zoom, which is much less than most cameras on the market at the same price. The camera is incredibly easy to use, with few buttons and simple instructions. The on/off button is...

Quality Nikon D200

Advantages: Good picture Quality, Fast shutter speed, excellent build and quality
Disadvantages: can be a little big to carry everywhere with you, takes time to get to grips with all the settings

...The Nikon D200 is an exceptional piece of equipment, and for those of you who have owned one or are still using the D200 will know what I am talking about. The build quality is just outstanding, I have dropped my D200 numerous times and it is still solid and taking excellent pictures. The speed of the camera is also pretty good, shooting at 5fps you are sure to capture all the action. The 10.2 megapixels will give you outsatnding picture quality and be able to print large A3 photos easily. I have a compact camera which is a 10 megapixel but does not come close to the picture quality that the D200 produces. The size of the camera alone is not very large or heavy, although once you add all the accessories on, such as the flash, battery pack and lens it can feel a bit bulky. If you are taking pictures of the family holiday then you...
