Nikon Super Coolscan 9000 ED a design success.

Advantages: high quality scans, large files, robust and intelligently designed.
Disadvantages: None.

...The Nikon Super Coolscan 9000 ED is a brilliantly designed multi- format film scanner aimed at professionals but I would seriously recommend it for anyone passionate about photography. It is a joy to use. It scans 35mm, Medium format 120/220, 6x6, 6x7, 6x9 (cm) and 16mm size films. Excellent results with black and white, colour negative and slide film in all the available above formats. The price for the Nikon Super Coolscan 9000 ED is around £1800 to £2200. Compared to the Imacon range of Flextight scanners which can be anything around £5000 to £12000 the Nikon Coolscan 9000 ED price is instantly more attractive but what about quality? The Nikon Coolscan produces images that are certainly good enough for professional, commercial and archival uses and fine art exhibiting purposes. If you use Photoshop and have a good...

A great scanner - shame about the interface.

Advantages: Superb quality images and amazing ICE dust removal
Disadvantages: Poor user interface & price (especially for the optional APS adaptor)

...I bought this scanner last year, having finally got round to sorting out our wedding photos. We'd decided not to bother with a professional photographer and instead asked everyone to send us the negatives of their own photos. In the meantime, my old 35mm camera died, and I had decided to get a digital camera. What a revelation. I then decided that the only sensible way to sort out and edit our wedding photos was to get the negatives scanned into digital format. After a fair bit of research, I finally decided to get the Nikon Super Coolscan 5000 ED. All the reviews I read suggested a good balance between cost and performance, and I can confirm this. The scanner cost $1065 or about £600 from a US company called Cameta Camera who were selling the scanner new on ebay. When it arrived, it was very easy to install and get working...

A super cool review of the Nikon Coolpix

Advantages: Looks good, durable and a good range of user interactive settings.
Disadvantages: Not the most vivid of colour capture and a few other problems (see review).

...As a professional photographer who is used to using top of the range DSLR cameras, I often worry that I will be a little harsh on simple point and shoot cameras when asked to give my opinion on them. Last week when I was asked to test the Nikon Coolpix S560 and give my opinion on it for my camera club, I was determined to do so with an open mind because as well as thinking I can be harsh on point and shoots, I am also not Nikon`s biggest fan. The Nikon Coolpix S560 is the latest in a range of Nikon point and shoot digital cameras and a direct step up from the Coolpix S550. In my opinion this was released a bit quickly after the S550 and it makes me wonder if Nikon were ever truly happy with the 550 that they felt the need to release its successor within just a few months of it being released itself. In the camera market however...

Nikon D90 - My Next 'Last' Camera

Advantages: Movies, LiveView, 12.3 mpixels, build quality, excellent lens range
Disadvantages: Still quite bulky for casual use. Expensive if that's all you want it for

...There?s been a legion of digital cameras that have passed through my hands since they started to become a serious contender for 35mm?s domination of the amateur market. Going from memory, they?ve included Philips, Casio, Canon, Nikon and errr?..Nikon. Of course the last one, my first DSLR, a Nikon D70 was going to be the last; but then we all say that don?t we, lads? What I really meant was ?the last for quite a while?. LOOKS LIKE THE ?QUITE A WHILE? HAS EXPIRED Then my daughter started making noises about a night-school class in photography, where the minimum kit requirement just so happened to be a DSLR, and I got to thinking about letting her have the D70 for a ?song?, whilst good ol? Dad treats himself to the later and much higher-specified D90. Since I bought the D70 four or five years back, things have moved on apace...

Lets Slide into Scanning

Advantages: Exceptional Quality of Image, Worth its money
Disadvantages: Takes time to get used to controls.

...The Nikon Super Coolscan 4000 ED is a one of the highest quality slide/film scanners around at an affordable price. It scans at a maximum resolution of 4000 dpi (dots per inch; therefore the higher the resolution the better picture quality) and has many features, which we will look at in more detail. I ordered my Nikon Super Coolscan 4000 ED online at WarnersImaging.co.uk. At the time of purchase, which was February 2003, it cost me £958.81 inclusive of Vat. This was one of the cheapest places that I could find it. I would definitely recommend shopping around though, as some stores were selling it for as high as £1200. THE PACKAGE From WarnersImaging.co.uk I got the following items, but remember that different stores may provide a different package. Its worthwhile emailing them to enquire as to what exactly you get for the price...

Review of Nikon Super Coolscan 4000 ED

My experience of the Nikon D90 as an amateur photographer.

Advantages: Excellent picture quality, lots of useful features, well designed controls, great kit lens
Disadvantages: More expensive than some other DSLRs, quite big and heavy, limited movie mode

... How I made my choice I recently bought the D90 to upgrade from my Olympus 560UZ bridge camera, so this is my first foray into DSLR photography. Most people starting in DSLR photography will opt for the cheaper D40, or the D60, D70 and D80. I am not particularly rich, and in the end chose the D90 because I didn't want to grow out of the smaller DSLR and have to buy a new body quickly. I have found that the prices of Nikon DSLRs haven't decreased significantly over the last 3 years, so I decided (maybe wrongly) that this option would save me money in the long run. I found that it is very important to go into a shop and hold the camera in your hands before making a choice. All the photography shop assistants said that the Canon series was just as good as the Nikons, but I discounted them because I didn't get on with the feel...

Super Mario Bros on the Wii

Advantages: Great team playing ability
Disadvantages: None as of yet.

...This game is a timeless classic which has constantly been revised to keep it going. The New Super Mario Bros. Wii has captured all the quality of previous Mario Bros. It captures the sheer simple pleasure of running and jumping; all can be done easily with a d-pad and two buttons. The game play takes a little getting used to but once mastered its great fun. There is also the ability to share it with up to three pals. The first time a Mario game has offered proper co-op play. Keeping the play confined lends the game a more studious approach. What would be a comfortable dash with one player takes on a new light with extra players, encouraging you to work together and carefully negotiate each obstacle to keep your team?s life stock up. It is, for all intents and purposes, the very definition of a co-operative game. That...

No need for Digital, Film can be seen on PC too

Advantages: Quick and Easy to use
Disadvantages: None

...This device is for anyone using a film camera but want there images on PC without purchasing a digital camera. So you can still use the same camera you have used for all those years. Also with the negatives you have kept from years back you can put them onto PC. Its quick and easy to use, just put the film in and it scans it through. The Nikon Coolscan IV ED offers an ultimate in professional film scanning technology. It is a desktop scanner which offers a super-fast throughput when scanning 35mm strip film or mounted 35mm slides at upto 2900 dpi optical resolution. That means it produces an image on the PC of in excess of 12 megapixels from a 35mm frame, which means you can create an image which can be printed onto an A3 page in full photo quality. Digital ICE technology is built in, it consists of Digital IC (Image Correction...

A Super Food.

Advantages: Quick and Easy
Disadvantages: Some are nice others are bland.

...Batchelors Super Noodles The less you eat whilst working nights the better. So as a long time shift worker these are just perfect. Until a few weeks ago you could pick up 3 packets for a £1 at Tescos but now they have hiked up the price to 3 for £1.20. A 20% increase! They come in several flavours; Barbecue Beef (Very Tasty), Mild Curry (V.T), Chicken (V.T), Thai Curry (V.T), Spicy Salsa (V.T), Southern Fried Chicken (V.T). Bacon (V.T), Mushroom (Plain), Spaghetti Bolognese (Plain) Chow Mien (Plain), Sweet and Sour (Bland), Balti (Bland), Tex Mex (Bland), The taste varies and there are some that I found Very Tasty, Plain to quite Bland but in general most of the various flavours are very tasty. Cooking them could not be simpler, Just open the packet, pop it in a pan with a mug of water and cook until...

Fairly Super Mario Homage

Advantages: A very different and playable Mario game, with nods to the classics
Disadvantages: Not entirely original, sometimes frustrating

...Welcome to my second Wii game review. Only a couple of weeks ago I purchased Super Mario Galaxy secondhand, very curious about what it was like to play (and what all the fuss was about). I had since found out that the game is being held up as "one of the greatest games ever made", with reviews giving it nearly unanimous perfect scores, and Nintendo fanboys and fangirls creaming their pants. So here is my take on Super Mario Galaxy. OVERVIEW The game takes place in a 3D universe, where Mario visits different "galaxies" to retrieve various stars. The game is divided into six rooms, with five "galaxies" in each room. Each galaxy comprises of five levels, with extra levels that act as side-quests. There are also "hidden" levels in other parts of the game, which are accessed by performing specific tasks. Collecting stars in...
