Nikon D90 - My Next 'Last' Camera

Advantages: Movies, LiveView, 12.3 mpixels, build quality, excellent lens range
Disadvantages: Still quite bulky for casual use. Expensive if that's all you want it for

...There?s been a legion of digital cameras that have passed through my hands since they started to become a serious contender for 35mm?s domination of the amateur market. Going from memory, they?ve included Philips, Casio, Canon, Nikon and errr?..Nikon. Of course the last one, my first DSLR, a Nikon D70 was going to be the last; but then we all say that don?t we, lads? What I really meant was ?the last for quite a while?. LOOKS LIKE THE ?QUITE A WHILE? HAS EXPIRED Then my daughter started making noises about a night-school class in photography, where the minimum kit requirement just so happened to be a DSLR, and I got to thinking about letting her have the D70 for a ?song?, whilst good ol? Dad treats himself to the later and much higher-specified D90. Since I bought the D70 four or five years back, things have moved on apace...

Review of Nikon D90

My experience of the Nikon D90 as an amateur photographer.

Advantages: Excellent picture quality, lots of useful features, well designed controls, great kit lens
Disadvantages: More expensive than some other DSLRs, quite big and heavy, limited movie mode

... How I made my choice I recently bought the D90 to upgrade from my Olympus 560UZ bridge camera, so this is my first foray into DSLR photography. Most people starting in DSLR photography will opt for the cheaper D40, or the D60, D70 and D80. I am not particularly rich, and in the end chose the D90 because I didn't want to grow out of the smaller DSLR and have to buy a new body quickly. I have found that the prices of Nikon DSLRs haven't decreased significantly over the last 3 years, so I decided (maybe wrongly) that this option would save me money in the long run. I found that it is very important to go into a shop and hold the camera in your hands before making a choice. All the photography shop assistants said that the Canon series was just as good as the Nikons, but I discounted them because I didn't get on with the feel...

Nikon D40 - A great bargain for the beginning photographer!

Advantages: Cheap, easy to use, nice clear LCD screen
Disadvantages: No motor for auto focus

...I purchased this camera at a very good price when I was looking to first start photgraphy. I went for the Digital SLR (single lens reflex) so I had more functions and properties that I was able to change myself. For an entry level photographer, I would say it is perfect. With 6.1 megapixels it has a good range for what the beginner will need. The lens that came with it was a Nikon AFS 18-55mm. This has a good range to start with for average portraits or imagery. I have also managed to get some good micro shots with this lens. The screen is a good size to check any images after taking and the camera also has some good built in features such as red eye reduction and several tonal changes for on the spot editing. The main downside about this camera is at its cheap price, there is no motor for the lens built in the camera. This means only...

A super cool review of the Nikon Coolpix

Advantages: Looks good, durable and a good range of user interactive settings.
Disadvantages: Not the most vivid of colour capture and a few other problems (see review).

...As a professional photographer who is used to using top of the range DSLR cameras, I often worry that I will be a little harsh on simple point and shoot cameras when asked to give my opinion on them. Last week when I was asked to test the Nikon Coolpix S560 and give my opinion on it for my camera club, I was determined to do so with an open mind because as well as thinking I can be harsh on point and shoots, I am also not Nikon`s biggest fan. The Nikon Coolpix S560 is the latest in a range of Nikon point and shoot digital cameras and a direct step up from the Coolpix S550. In my opinion this was released a bit quickly after the S550 and it makes me wonder if Nikon were ever truly happy with the 550 that they felt the need to release its successor within just a few months of it being released itself. In the camera market however...

Nikon D40 is the DSLR you'll ever need

Advantages: Excellent image quality, good core functionality of an DSLR, cheap, portable and lightweight.
Disadvantages: Megapixels may not be sufficient for some, no autobracketing and no autofocus with non-AFS lenses

...Although introduced many years ago, Nikon D40 is still my favorite DSLR due to its compact size and affordable price tag. It is the best entry level DSLR in the market, at a price much cheaper than the more expensive compacts and semi-pro. Nikon D40 is a fast 6MP camera with a large 3-inch LCD, 2.5fps continuous shooting, 1/500s flash sync and a bright viewfinder. What it lacks are a status display and a built-in auto-focus motor. Megapixel count does not matter. It only matters if you like to crop your pictures or print huge sizes. In fact, the higher the MP count the more noise is produced during capture. At 6MP, you can comfortably print at postcard size without visible loss of detail. In fact, in low light shooting, a 6MP SLR will crush 12MP compacts any time of the day. High MP count does not equate image quality, but since...

The Nikon D40, simply the perfect SLR camera

Advantages: Quality, features, battery charging, the feel, realiable, fast, comfortable
Disadvantages: Non

...This is my first ever SLR digital camera and i love it! I would recommend to anyone who enjoys photography or not. Its a good hold, perfect picture quality and its perfect for the price. You can buy some SLR cameras which are expensive, but you could gain alot more from just buying a Nikon D40! Has a good clear colour LCD screen, powerful flash, easy to access memory and battery, comes supplied with everything you need to start you off. I've been told that Canon are good makes, but to be honest, the picture quality i think is so much better on this camera, plus this camera is only a 6 megapixels, so am guessing the Nikon D40x which is a 10 megapixel camera, is proberbly the best camera around at the moment! I would buy any Nikon camera again, no dout....

Light as the Air, Nikon D60

Advantages: Very small and light, wide range of Nikon lenses
Disadvantages: Slow Autofocus

... Nikon D60 The Camera Itself Here it is, the slightly higher than entry level digital SLR from Nikon. On paper it seems very similar to many other similar priced cameras. So in this review, I dig a little deeper to see if there is enough difference to put you out of pocket. First thing you will notice is the size of the body. It is impressively small, very good for travel photography and in general circumstances. The bodies? grip will fit the contours of your hand well even if you have large hands, like myself. The 10.2 megapixel sensor is expected, but possibly may have benefited from upping to 12 megapixels or more. As beginner to enthusiast photographers develop they will be left wanting more pixels to suffice their needs. The manufacturers? website states it also includes, ?Active D-Lighting.? This is said to...

Nikon D80 DSLR + 18-135mm Nikkor lens

Advantages: perfect grip, large prismatic viewfinder
Disadvantages: doesn't have internal memory

... Nikon D80 My first real DSLR camera, which I have become addict to even if it requires me to learn a lot and keep challenging myself into operating it better and better ammoed with knowledge. It had been my dream to own a SLR camera, I've always had a passion for the big cameras and I was jealous of the pro photographers and the pictures they got. When I was little, my parents had an old Czech-made camera including all the stuff you need to develop the pictures yourself at home and so we were always full of photographs of me and my brother, that's where I started to love the stuff. Unfortunately the old equipment doesn't work anymore and my first camera was a simple automatic one and even if I liked to take pictures, I soon found out how expensive it was to have them developed and to buy new and new films. Now, in the age...

Nikon D40x

Advantages: Quality Pictures, Easy to use, Compact
Disadvantages: Price but still worth it for a decent camera

...** Nikon D40x Digital SLR ** This is my first digital SLR camera I really like taking pictures of mainly our families dogs and cars my main hobbies, my other half had previously had been using a digital SLR that belonged to his dad, so we both went a long to Jessops that is well know for selling really good photography stuff. We had a look at various models of camera including the Canon Eos 400d which is one of this cameras biggest rival models, also looked at four or five other digital SLR models. Then eventually we started looking at the Nikon D40x my other half knew someone who had the previous model to this the Nikon D40 which had been really good, the other half had used it previously and found it a really good quality camera. So after a lot of really useful and helpful advice from the shop assistant in Jessops we chose...

Nikon D80 - Superb Prosumer DSLR

Advantages: Image quality and build quality
Disadvantages: Lots of noise at high ISO

...Background The Nikon D80 is Nikon's attempt to get back into the Prosumer market after the D70 & D70s were getting a bit long in the tooth. What they have cleverly done is take all the decent features from their D200 (which has recently been replaced by the D300) and mix it together with elements of the D50 to create an affordable camera for hobbyists who wish to take photography to the next level. What's in the box The list below is from a 'Body Only' package as I was upgrading from a D50 to D80 and already have lenses which come on offer with the D80 kits. - D80 Body - EN-EL3e Battery - Mains Charger for the above battery type - Head Strap - USB Cable - Nikon PictureProject 1.7 CD-ROM - Nikon CaptureFX Trial CD-ROM - Various reading materials such as Manual, Warranty and Registration cards Overview As mentioned...
