Rechargeable NiMH Batteries

Advantages: Last for ages
Disadvantages: none

...So you've got all your holiday appliances, Battery powered digital camera, Digital Video Camera or Standard Video Camera, MP3 or CD player, and other battery powered appliances, trouble is.....it costs a small fortune to keep these things powered, and standard Nickel Cadmium ( NiCads) Batteries just don't last very long or hold enough power to work the camera, and on top of this these batteries have a memory which needs to be completely discharged otherwise afer a short period of a few recharging cycles thy wont hold a charge... So is there an answer to all this inconvenience...fortunately there is... ~~~o0o~~~ You may have heard the term NiMH ( Nickel Metal Hydride) Batteries, these are rechargeable, come in standard sizes AAA, AA, C & D sizes plus specialised sizes for Video Cameras, the can be reacharged many times...

Advantages: Long Lasting, Durable, Cost Effective, Colour Coded

Sounded good to me, I went back on Ebay and found these reasonably priced at £6.59 for pack of four ('Buy Now' ). I sent off a cheque and batteries duly arrived a couple of days later. The best friend of a digital camera owner

Advantages: offers better endurance in digital cameras etc.
Disadvantages: expensive initial outlay

...I had always thought that a rechargeable battery was a rechargeable battery, but I was proven wrong recently. I really discovered that there were two types of rechargeable battery having purchased a brand new Minolta Dimage 5 digital camera (op to follow soon!). I had just spent near EUR 1100 and was therefore somewhat taken aback that there were no rechargeable batteries supplied with it, just a set of alkaline batteries. Fortunately when I bought it, the shop assistant did say that I would have to get rechargeable batteries separately and that I would have to get NiMH (Nickel Metal Hydride) rather than NiCd (Nickel Cadmium), as they have a higher capacity. So what is the advantage of NiMH over NiCd? A NiMH battery has a 30% higher capacity than a standard NiCd battery, which means of course that it lasts longer between charges...

Cheap and Handy

Advantages: Charges Pretty Quickly, Allows you to play whilst charging
Disadvantages: should perhaps be free with console

...The xbox 360 play and charge kit allows you to recharge your wireless xbox 360 joypad whilst you play. It simply plugs into the socket on top of your xbox 360 control pad and into the usb port at the front of your console. The kit contains the usb cable and an NiMH rechargeable battery pack. It has around 30 hours of play time per charge (enough for well over a week of extended playing!), with each charge taking a few hours to be fully topped up, and you won't mind waiting those few hours as you'll be playing your game anyway! Its definately a handy little device as it saves you having to buy disposable batteries (that the xbox 360 wireless control pad uses as standard) every soon often, thus eliminating any "control pad running out of power" potential gaming disasters that we all fear when anyone mentions "wireless control pads...

Disadvantages: Capacity a little short of that advertised, plastic battery cover eventually fails

(2) Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) has replaced NiCd batteries, and this is the type you will find on sale in supermarkets and the like. NiMH have no memory effect, but lose charge over time. (3) Li-ion, more expensive than NiMH, have a greater energy density, and hold their charge for longer. Li-ion technology is still young and is likely to supersede NiMH as the rechargeable battery of choice. Rechargeables have come to the fore in recent years largely because of their green credentials. ...you to plug into the supplied power cable.Just because the battery is flat this also does not mean that you have to stop playing because as it sais in the name PLAY AND CHARGE you can do just that and play continuosly with out a hitch. The cable is also massive so in a average sized house the cable would easily reach across a living room or bedroom(unless of course the room is massive) The battery is a NiMh rechargble pack and will last forever storing lots of power in a single charge so go on buy one of these for your selves as you will only waste the money on batterys when you can have one of these and never need to but long life batteies again!!1 p.s the quick charge kit is soon coming to the u.k i believe and this will use these battery packs from the play and charge kit and charge 2 at a time without the cable attached if...

Why should you choose this particular type of battery for your digital camers.After all you can buy packs of batteries in lots of places. This battery can be recharged. At least 1000 times. Consider the saving that you will make. So all right you have to buy a charger as well, but you will still save yourself in the long run. Say an average pack of batteries costs £4.00. They will last for a few weeks or possibly months depending on use. Once discharged that is it. You have to buy again. But say you can get a charger and a set of batteries for £25.00. Over the life of these that is a saving of £3975.Just think what you can spend that on instead of buying disposable batteries...
