Advantages: Excellent build quality, great handling, comfortable, efficient, reliable

...Finally we are rid of our horrid Fiat Punto (see earlier review) and have opted to consolidate the two vehicles (see even earlier Civic review) into one lump of metal. Months of research later, we ignored all we'd read and opted to go and test drive the latest model 1.5 SE five-door Nissan Almera. We loved it so much, we bought it. Six months on (and way over the average mileage in that time!), here's my views of our new baby... Looks Sorry, did I just miss that? It's very much a blink-and-miss it car. Nissan Almera Tino SE 2.2 dci 136bhp 6speed

Advantages: Cheeper than most , powerfull engine , equipment levels
Disadvantages: Poor engine managment - not so frugal - wear and tear

...My dad bought his 97P dark metallic green GTI back in 1998 for £10995 not long after they were launched, with around 9000 miles on the clock. It was only last summer when my parents went on holiday that I finally got to use it for 2 weeks. Appearance – I think the original Almera shape stake some getting used to at first and from the rear it looks strangely oval. The GTI extras make the car far more aggressive and aesthetically pleasing than the standard models. It has 15 inch 5 spoke alloy wheels, side skirts, a deep front spoiler which houses front foglights and a rear roof level spoiler which houses the high level brake light. Two small red GTI badges on the front and rear give the only indication of it stature. This can be useful when you get boy racers at the lights, they get a bit of a shock when you leave them...

Advantages: Driver comfort, general ease of driving
Disadvantages: A little cramped in the back if you have longer legs!

...As always, Nissan have appealed to the safety-conscious driver, but this engine size means that you feel a bit less staid. It's great knowing you can put your foot down and pull past traffic even though you're driving a car that is often thought of as a "woman's car". There's plenty of space in the front for drivers (and passengers) with longer legs, although it can bit a little cramped in the back. However, the boot area is usefully large. This means that it probably appeals most to people with small children (with all the accompanying paraphernalia) or those that don't carry passengers too often. The car hugs the road well (much like the micra), ensuring that you feel safe during rainy and icy conditions. It also retains that 'crouching' appearance that appeals to some people. When I started, Nissan were only building 2 models and the employees at that time knew that it would be hard to go up to a 3 model plant i.e. Almera, Micra and Primera. Well things have not changed it's still hard now. At present Nissan at Sunderland are now making the Note, Primera, Micra and the all new Quashki ( A CROSS OVER CAR 2 WHEEL DRIVE COME 4X4). Nissan now employees around 5000 staff 4500 witch actually build the cars with 15000 people making parts for the factory in the local area. So Nissan is a major employer both directly and indirectly. If Nissan were to close it would have a big impact on the Northeast of England as did the loss of the Pits and the Shipyards. Most of the employees are full time with around 800 temps...

No Danger To Wet Paper Bags!
